Quick answer
How much does SEO cost in Sydney?
Among Sydney agencies that print their own price, SEO for a small or single-location business starts at A$1,500–A$2,500 a month plus GST, or A$1,650–A$2,750 with it (Click Click Media, Norwest). Ecommerce and multi-location campaigns there run A$3,500–A$5,000 plus GST. Prosperity Media's entry local campaign is around A$2,000 + GST, so A$2,200. Earned Media sizes the Sydney market at A$1,000 to over A$10,000 a month, and StudioHawk, AIIMS and Sentius print no figure. Codingclave charges A$990–A$9,800 a month, month-to-month, with no GST added; the A$990 floor covers one site and one Business Profile.
- Ask whether a quote is ex or inc GST: both Sydney agencies that print their own price quote ex GST.
- Earned Media puts average SEO rates at A$125–A$250 an hour.
- Paid audits run A$650–A$14,000, though many agencies audit for free.
- Ad spend is a separate cost, paid to Google directly.

What Sydney SEO agencies charge, in their own words
Of the six agency pages on page one, three (StudioHawk, AIIMS Group and Sentius) print no number anywhere, and a fourth gives a market range rather than its own fee, so only two of six page-one agencies let you compare a fee before you call.
Every figure below was read on the provider's own page. The two directories print "$" without naming a currency, so their figures stay as printed.
| Provider and Sydney base | Figure | Unit | With 10% GST added | Term in print | Includes (as printed) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Click Click Media (Norwest) | A$1,500–A$2,500 (small business, localised service area) | Month, ex GST | A$1,650–A$2,750 | Month-to-month, no minimum term | Not itemised per band; proposal after a free audit (page updated 22 Sep 2026) |
| Click Click Media (Norwest) | A$3,500–A$5,000 (ecommerce, multi-location) | Month, ex GST | A$3,850–A$5,500 | As above | As above |
| Prosperity Media (Surry Hills) | Around A$2,000 + GST (entry local campaign) | Month | A$2,200 | Not stated | 15–30 hours a month for a small business; rate not shown |
| Earned Media (Bella Vista) | A$1,000 to A$10,000+ (Sydney market range, not its own fee) | Month | GST not stated, so no conversion | Monthly; no commitment "longer than a month" | No scope attached |
| Earned Media (Bella Vista) | A$125–A$250 (average rate) | Hour | GST not stated | Not applicable | Not applicable |
| StudioHawk (South Eveleigh), AIIMS Group (Strathfield South), Sentius | No figure published | – | – | StudioHawk and Sentius: no lock-in. AIIMS: not stated | AIIMS: a free strategy it values at $5,000 |
| Clutch Sydney SEO list | $1,000+ or $5,000+ minimum project; hourly bands $50–$99 up to $150–$199 (currency not stated) | Project or hour | GST not stated | – | Not defined |
| Semrush Agency Partners, Sydney | "Starting from $1,000 / $2,500 / $5,000", depending on the listing (currency not stated) | Per project | GST not stated | – | Not defined |
| Codingclave (Lucknow, remote) | A$990–A$9,800 | Month | No GST added (see the note under our pricing) | Month-to-month | At A$990: 1 site, 1 Business Profile (yours), priority technical and page fixes, monthly Search Console report |
Compare floor with floor. Click Click Media's entry price is A$1,650 once GST is added; ours is A$990. At A$990 you get one site, one Business Profile on your own account, the priority technical and page fixes, and a monthly report from your Search Console. You don't get an office to walk into, face-to-face meetings or a full shared working day, because our hours overlap with the Sydney afternoon only.
Send us your current quote on WhatsApp and we'll show what A$990 would cover instead.

The Google Maps three-pack in Sydney: what decides it, and what nobody can sell you
Google publishes how the three map listings above the organic results are chosen.
Relevance, distance, prominence
Google ranks map results on relevance to the search, distance from the searcher or the place named, and prominence. Prominence draws on signals such as how many websites link to the business and how many reviews it has. The help page is blunt: "There's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking."
Your address decides your radius
A Business Profile has to sit at a place you actually operate from. Virtual offices, meaning rented postal addresses you don't work from, aren't eligible. A co-working desk only counts with clear signage, your own staff present and customers received during opening hours. One profile per location.
Red flag: anyone offering to set up profiles at suburb addresses where you don't operate. Those profiles break the guidelines from day one.
Service-area businesses: up to 20 areas
Businesses that travel to customers can list up to 20 service areas as cities, postcodes or other areas; approved edits take up to 48 hours to show. Listing a suburb tells Google where you work; it doesn't take distance out of the ranking.
Outside your map radius, suburb visibility comes from organic pages about work you genuinely do there. Copying one page and swapping the suburb name can fall under Google's doorway and scaled content abuse spam policies.
Reviews without breaking Maps policy
Google Maps' content policy rules out three habits:
- offering payment, a discount or a freebie for a review, or for removing a negative one
- asking only the customers you know are happy (review gating), or discouraging negative reviews
- buying reviews, which count as fake engagement and are removed
Ask every customer, the same way, after every job.
Where we stand
Codingclave has no Sydney address and doesn't appear in the map pack itself. All Business Profile work happens on your own profile: you stay the owner, add us as a manager, and can remove us any day.
Nobody can guarantee a place in the pack. What we can promise: every change is logged for you to check, and your profile stays yours. Tell us three suburbs you serve and we'll show who holds the pack there now, and why.

How crowded your corner of Sydney is: ABS business counts by region
ABS counts of actively trading businesses show why a plumber in Blacktown and an accountant in the Sydney CBD face very different results pages. Counts are at 30 June 2025 (released 16 December 2025), aggregated by us from SA2 data. The last column is a first step we'd suggest, not data.
| Region (ABS SA4) | Businesses | Share of Greater Sydney | If you're based here |
|---|---|---|---|
| City and Inner South | 97,689 | 15.1% | Pick the most specific primary category, and name your street and building on the contact page |
| Inner South West | 70,569 | 10.9% | Add a suburb page only where you have finished jobs to show |
| Parramatta | 64,403 | 10.0% | One profile per staffed address; a second site never shares a listing |
| North Sydney and Hornsby | 61,627 | 9.5% | One office serving North Sydney and Chatswood? One profile, plus a page per area backed by real work |
| South West | 45,484 | 7.0% | Ask every customer for a review the same way, since reviews feed prominence |
| Inner West | 38,948 | 6.0% | Keep name, phone and hours identical on the profile, site and directories |
| Eastern Suburbs | 36,979 | 5.7% | Fill every profile field (services, attributes, photos) and reply to each review |
| Blacktown | 36,452 | 5.6% | Travelling trades: list service areas by suburb or postcode, and track calls by suburb |
| Baulkham Hills and Hawkesbury | 36,121 | 5.6% | Write job pages for the far ends you cover, because distance caps your map reach |
| Northern Beaches | 33,647 | 5.2% | Name the beach suburbs you work in on job pages, with photos taken on those jobs |
The busiest pockets (ABS SA2): Sydney (North)–Millers Point 43,144 businesses; Sydney (South)–Haymarket 9,009; North Sydney–Lavender Bay 6,549; Baulkham Hills (West)–Bella Vista 6,436; Chatswood–East 5,894; Surry Hills 5,892; Parramatta–North 4,191.
Western Sydney, defined. The five western SA4s (Parramatta, Blacktown, South West, Outer South West, and Outer West and Blue Mountains) hold 196,752 businesses, about 30.4% of Greater Sydney's roughly 646,600. The Greater Sydney total includes the Central Coast (27,127).
Most of them are small: about 61.6% have no employees and 28.5% have one to four, so around 90% have fewer than five staff. The ABS randomises small cells, so read every count as approximate. NSW added 26,057 businesses in 2025-26, the largest net rise of any state or territory (ABS, released 18 Aug 2026), and June 2026 regional counts are due on 18 December 2026.

SEO by Sydney industry, sized by how many of each there are
Of about 646,600 Greater Sydney businesses, construction is the largest group at 16.6%, ahead of professional, scientific and technical services at 15.9% and rental, hiring and real estate at 12.3%. Shares are ABS counts at 30 June 2025; how buyers search is our reading. Where visits arrive but calls don't, the fix is often layout rather than SEO, which is UI/UX design for Sydney sites.
Builders and tradies: 16.6% (107,078)
Searches are urgent, by suburb or "near me", usually on a phone. First job: a correct Business Profile with honest service areas, then one page for each trade you actually do. Website side: tradie websites in Sydney.
Lawyers, accountants and consultants: 15.9% (103,088)
Buyers compare before they call, so practice-area pages carry the weight. For law firms, Rule 36 of the Australian Solicitors' Conduct Rules bars advertising that is false, misleading or deceptive, and the Law Society of NSW says "accredited specialist" may only be used by solicitors who hold the accreditation. So: no "best lawyer in Sydney" headings, and practice-area pages written from matters the firm has handled.
Real estate and property: 12.3% (79,607)
Searches lead with the suburb, and agent profile pages compete alongside the agency's own. First job: suburb pages built from listings and sales the agency has handled. More in real estate agencies.
Health, dental and NDIS: 7.7% (49,532)
People search by treatment or support type plus suburb. For registered practitioners, section 133 of the National Law bans misleading advertising, testimonials about the service, and wording that creates an unreasonable expectation of benefit (Ahpra). In SEO terms, patient reviews stay on the Business Profile rather than being quoted on treatment pages. Practice-wide detail sits on our dental practices page; builds are dental websites in Sydney and NDIS provider websites in Sydney.
Shops and online stores: 5.7% (36,678)
Retail search runs on categories and products rather than suburbs. First job: category structure, duplicate product pages and speed. Builds and replatforms: ecommerce websites in Sydney and Shopify developers in Sydney.
Cafés, restaurants and accommodation: 4.0% (25,900)
Diners decide from the map, so hours, menu and photos must match on profile and site. First job: a menu written as text rather than a PDF scan, and hours that match everywhere. Tills and ordering are covered in restaurant POS in Sydney.
Tell us your trade and suburb on WhatsApp and we'll say what we'd fix first for a business like yours.

Which SEO agency in Sydney is best? Read this search page before you trust any list
No independent body ranks Sydney SEO agencies, so "best" means best for your size, budget and industry. This results page mixes agency pages, a review directory and a partner list, and each signal on it says less than it seems to.
| What you'll see | What it really tells you | Ask this |
|---|---|---|
| Directory rankings (Clutch) | Featured and sponsored placements sit among the merit order, and review counts run from single figures to about 80 | "How many of your reviews come from businesses my size?" |
| Partner lists (Semrush) | Only partner agencies appear, and one brief goes to several of them at once | "Who will see my details?" |
| Awards | Most are entered by the agencies themselves; categories differ from one award to the next | "Which award, which category, which year?" |
| Ranking guarantees | Google's advice: if an SEO guarantees first place, "find someone else". Sentius's page says its strategy "guarantees results", while its FAQ says page-one rankings can't be guaranteed | "Put the guarantee and its refund terms in writing." |
| "Upfront pricing" with no price (StudioHawk) | The figure only appears after you make contact | "What's the monthly figure, ex and inc GST?" |
| Size thresholds (Prosperity Media: mainly companies over A$1m revenue) | A statement of fit, not of quality | "Do you take on businesses my size?" |
| Audit-stage access requests | Google advises giving an SEO read-only Search Console access at this point | "Will read access do until we sign?" |
Agency, consultant or freelancer in Sydney? The difference is who does the work and who covers when they are away. An agency spreads the work across a team on a monthly retainer. A consultant or freelancer is one person, often billed by the hour, where Earned Media puts the average at A$125–A$250. Codingclave is founder-led on a monthly retainer.

Month-to-month is normal among Sydney’s open-priced agencies. Check these lines anyway
Click Click Media, Earned Media, StudioHawk and Sentius all say they don't lock clients in, so the wording of the agreement matters more than the label.
Under the ACCC's unfair contract terms regime, a standard-form contract with a business that has fewer than 100 staff or turnover below A$10 million can't propose or rely on unfair terms, whatever the contract is worth, and penalties have applied to contracts made, renewed or varied since 9 November 2023.
Where our column says "written terms", that point is set in the agreement we send before you sign.
| Clause | Why it matters | Fair version | Codingclave |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum term and notice period | A long notice period is a lock-in by another name | Short, stated in days or weeks | Written terms |
| Auto-renewal | A fixed term that quietly renews is a fresh commitment | No silent renewal | Written terms |
| Setup fee | It can exceed the first month and is seldom refunded | A stated amount, with what it pays for | Written terms |
| Who owns GA4, Search Console, Business Profile and the domain | Whoever owns them controls your data and your listing | You own them and add the agency as a user | Yours; you create them and add us as a user |
| Content written and pages built | Some agreements hold copyright back until exit | Yours once the month is paid | Yours on payment, as set out in the written terms |
| Links built | Google treats buying links for ranking as link spam | No paid links; any outreach named | None bought |
| What happens at exit | Withheld logins or deleted reports cost months | Access handed back, history kept | You remove our access; nothing is withheld |
| Payment method | How and when you pay affects cash flow and card fees | Method, currency and due date in writing | Written terms |
Ask for our terms on WhatsApp before any call, so you can read the agreement first and decide whether a conversation is worth your time.

An SEO team in Lucknow working for a Sydney business: the honest arrangement
Who you’re dealing with
Codingclave Development LLP, founded in 2017 by Ashish Sharma and run from Lucknow, India. It's founder-led, so the person you speak to is the person answerable for the work. There is no Australian office, no Australian staff, no Australian phone number and no ABN. Contact runs on WhatsApp first, then email and video calls, and the accounts we work in stay in your name throughout.
Time zones
We work Monday to Saturday, 10:00–19:00 India time. While Sydney is on daylight saving that's 3:30pm–12:30am AEDT, sharing 1.5 hours (3:30–5pm) with a 9-to-5 Sydney day. From 4 April 2027, back on AEST, it becomes 2:30–11:30pm and the shared stretch grows to 2.5 hours. Saturdays run on the same hours.
- The monthly review call sits in that window or in the Sydney evening.
- Page and Business Profile changes are made in the Sydney afternoon and evening, and the change log is waiting the next morning.
The full hours table is on our Sydney page.
Quality you can check
The results of every change show up in your own Search Console, and every change is listed in the monthly log, so nothing rests on our say-so. The record behind us: 200+ projects since 2017, ★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews), and Top Rated on Upwork. You can read the reviews before talking to us.
Paying
The retainer is priced per month; how and when you pay is in the written terms you see before signing.

Does SEO still pay in Sydney now Google answers with AI?
Google handled 87.9% of Australian searches in September 2026 and Bing 9.17%, according to StatCounter. Bing's share justifies setting up Bing Places and Bing Webmaster Tools too.
AI Overviews have appeared in Australian results since 29 October 2024 and AI Mode since 8 October 2025. Google says there are no additional requirements to appear in either, and clicks from them are counted within the "Web" search type in Search Console, though not shown separately.
ChatGPT and Perplexity sit outside Search Console. OpenAI says its OAI-SearchBot crawler is what surfaces sites in ChatGPT search, so check that your robots.txt lets it in; visits from those assistants then arrive in GA4 as referral traffic. Because neither Google nor OpenAI asks for anything special, what gets sold as AI SEO or GEO in Sydney comes down to the same groundwork: crawlable, accurate pages, a correct profile, no shortcuts. The AI section of our national SEO services page goes further.
