Overview

Opening hours, cyclone notices, tour timetables and price lists are built as fields you change yourself, so a closure never waits on a studio's hourly rate. You brief founder Ashish Sharma on WhatsApp and evening video calls from Lucknow, India, 2:30–11:30pm AEST. Published Cairns prices are compared below.

Quick answer

How much does a website cost in Cairns in 2026?

As of 6 October 2026, published Cairns website build prices run from $995 (one page, hosting extra) to $7,500 + GST. Cairns Web Design lists packages from $995 for one long-scroll page, from $2,895 for five pages with a CMS and from $5,995 for ten pages with a store, domain and hosting extra. Mindesigns starts at $3,500 and puts mid-sized builds at $5,000–$15,000; Bang Media starts at $7,500 + GST. Five of the eight providers on page one publish no build price. Our bands, with no GST added: WordPress A$900–A$4,300, business site A$1,200–A$6,900, online store A$2,400–A$19,500, optional hosting and support A$80–A$240 a month.

  • Compare one page with one page, five with five
  • Check whether a price is + GST or GST-inclusive
  • Ask what an edit costs after launch ($180/hr at one studio)
  • The .com.au and hosting are often billed separately

On 6 October 2026 we opened eight of the organic results on Google's first page for 'web design Cairns' (not the map pack), plus each provider's pricing or hosting page. Only Mindesigns dates its prices ('current as of 2026').

Comparing Cairns quotes like for like, including where local studios beat us

Five things to line up before you hold two Cairns quotes against each other, including where a Cairns studio wins.

  • $995 is a one-page starter without hosting

Cairns Web Design's Business Startup is one long-scroll page, domain and hosting excluded. Set it against our A$900 WordPress floor; its five-page Business Pro (from $2,895, with a CMS) is the one to compare with a business-site quote.

  • + GST or GST-inclusive

Bang Media's builds start at $7,500 + GST, or A$8,250 with GST. Cairns Web Design and Mindesigns don't say, so ask before comparing totals. We add no GST; the note under our price bands explains why, and the national page covers GST on imported services.

  • If plain hosting is all you need, a local plan is cheaper

A hosting-only plan from a Cairns studio will usually cost less than our A$80–A$240 a month, and for a site that rarely changes that may be enough. Our band earns its price on edits: at $180 an hour, one half-hour change a month is $1,080 a year, against A$960 a year at our A$80 entry, which covers updates, fixes and small changes within the inclusions in your quote.

  • Studios that can shoot on site

Bang Media's in-house photographers and videographers can film your reef boat, treatment rooms or venue in person. We can't from India, so we work from photos you supply or commission; if new footage matters most, pick a studio that shoots.

  • How Cairns studios split deposits

Cairns Web Design takes 50% up front and 50% on completion under $10,000, and 50/25/25 above that. Get the stages on paper whoever you hire; ours are in your quote, and you check the site on a staging link before the last payment.

The cost nobody quotes up front: changing a Cairns website after launch

Hours move between the wet and the dry, a cyclone warning shuts the marina, a new physio joins the practice. Only Cairns Web Design publishes what edits cost: $180 an hour for updates, $225 for programming. A typical year at the update rate:

What routine edits cost a Cairns business at a published $180-an-hour update rate
Edit a Cairns owner typically makesTimes a year (example)At $180/hr, if each takes 30 minBuilt so you edit it yourself
Wet-season and dry-season opening hours2$180Edit in minutes; no per-edit fee from us
Cyclone or flood closure notice, on and off4$360Alert banner with an on/off toggle
Tour timetable or seasonal price list4$360Editable timetable and price block
Staff or practitioner bio3$270Team page editor
Specials, events and school-holiday offers6$540Post or banner editor
Total19$1,710 a year—

The 30 minutes per edit is our assumption, as no billing increment is published, so ask how a five-minute job is charged. The saving comes from the build: hours, alerts, timetables, prices and bios as fields you change yourself. A new booking flow is still programming, and our support band covers small changes within written inclusions, not unlimited edits.

Send us your site and we'll list which of last year's edits you could have done yourself.

Website design and web development for the industries that employ Cairns

Whatever you run in Cairns, the site has one job: bring in the booking, the referral or the quote request. Jobs and Skills Australia's July 2026 dashboard puts health care and social assistance at about 22% of jobs in the Cairns Employment Region (four-quarter average to May 2026), a region wider than the council area. With construction, education, accommodation and food, and public administration, the top five hold about 57%.

  • Clinics and allied health

A booking button that opens your practice software, a referral page GPs can find, and practitioner profiles that read well on a phone. See clinic and dental practice websites.

  • NDIS providers

Your service area, the supports you offer and a referral form that works with a screen reader. The Australian Human Rights Commission's 2025 guidelines point to WCAG 2.2; AA is our build target. See NDIS provider websites.

  • Construction and trades

A quote form that takes job photos from a phone and a page for each area you travel to. The QBCC treats websites as advertising, so your licensed name and licence number must be legible and reasonably prominent; we put them in the footer and beside the quote form. See tradie websites, or WhatsApp us a link to your quote form.

  • Education: schools, childcare and training providers

Enrolment pages parents can finish on a phone, fees and term dates as text, and policies as accessible web pages rather than scanned PDFs. Training providers need course pages that list entry requirements, intake dates and location the same way each time.

  • Accommodation, cafés and restaurants

Menus as text rather than PDFs, a functions enquiry form, and a clear link to your booking engine or table system. See accommodation and café and restaurant websites.

Reef, tour and accommodation sites for American, Japanese and Chinese visitors

International visitors to Tropical North Queensland rose 14.6% to 595,000 in the year to September 2025 and spent a record $1.1 billion, Tourism Tropical North Queensland reports from the International Visitor Survey. The USA led with 94,000, then Japan 91,000 (down 8.2%), the UK 79,000, China 43,000 (up 62.6%) and New Zealand 40,000. Japanese- and Chinese-speaking guests may rely on browser translation of English pages.

  • Japanese and Simplified Chinese landing pages

One landing page per language for your main tours or rooms, with hreflang tags so Google shows each searcher the right version, and times, prices and pick-up points in tables that translate cleanly. Translation comes from you or your translator, so the wording is yours; we build the pages, with no promise about bookings.

  • Booking engines and payments

Each language page can link to or embed your booking engine. Connecting a booking engine or payment gateway is set-up or custom work, confirmed in writing for your business before you sign.

Should your site have Japanese or Chinese pages? If those guests already appear in your bookings, yes; if not, start with clear English and look again after a season.

Ready for the wet season and cyclone season

Australia's cyclone season runs from November to April; CSIRO puts the average at 11 cyclones a year in the Australian region, four to five of which reach land. Add wet-season flooding and closed roads, and your site needs changing at short notice, by you. A WordPress or business site started this month can usually be live, alert banner tested, before 1 November if your text and photos arrive early.

  • A closure notice that points to the official warnings

A site-wide notice you switch on in the editor for a cancelled departure or a closed door, linking to the Bureau of Meteorology's warnings and QLDTraffic instead of your own weather or road advice. Useful when the Kuranda Range, the Gillies Range or the Captain Cook Highway closes and Tablelands or Port Douglas trips are off.

  • A weather and cancellation policy page

For tour and reef operators: who calls a cancellation, how refunds or rebookings work, and where guests check on the day.

  • Google Business Profile kept in step

Google shows your Business Profile hours in Maps and search, so change them with the site; we check both match at launch.

  • Automated off-site backups

Kept away from the server, so a failed update or hosting fault can be rolled back. The backup schedule and hosting region are confirmed in writing for your business before you sign.

  • Pages that open at the marina and up the range

Guests check departure times in the queue at the Reef Fleet Terminal or on the road to Kuranda or Cape Tribulation, often on a weak signal. Compressed images, no heavy sliders, and Core Web Vitals 'good' marks (LCP 2.5 s or less, INP 200 ms or less, CLS 0.1 or less) as targets, not a promise.

Web design in Cairns, Atherton, Port Douglas and across FNQ

Customers from the Tablelands, the Cassowary Coast and Cape York often look a Cairns business up before the drive in, so hours, stock and directions must be right before they leave home. What owners in each area tend to need:

  • Cairns City and Cairns North

City hotels, hostels and tour desks, where visitors want times, prices and a booking button fast; near Cairns Hospital in Cairns North, specialist rooms and allied health practices that run on referrals.

  • Portsmith, Bungalow and Manoora

Marine, slipway and fabrication firms along Trinity Inlet, and trades needing quote forms with photo upload.

  • Westcourt, Edge Hill and Earlville

Shops and practices with regular local customers, where correct hours and a booking link beat a big homepage.

  • Mount Sheridan, Edmonton and Gordonvale

The southern growth corridor out to cane country: childcare, family services and trades serving new estates, with a page per suburb covered.

  • Smithfield, Trinity Beach, Palm Cove and Redlynch

Near the JCU Cairns campus in Smithfield, businesses selling to students; on the northern beaches, cafés and holiday rentals serving residents and visitors from one site.

  • Port Douglas and Kuranda

Low Isles and outer-reef operators, rainforest attractions and accommodation relying on international guests, where language pages matter most.

  • Mareeba and Atherton

Coffee, avocado and dairy country: farm-gate and agritourism businesses that often need a small store or a produce order form.

  • Innisfail

Banana and cane growers, their contractors, and town-centre retailers taking orders from across the Cassowary Coast.

Further south, our Townsville page compares that city's studios.

The 7 C’s of a website, applied to a Cairns reef tour and a Cairns clinic

Jeffrey Rayport and Bernard Jaworski set out seven elements of a website's customer interface in their 2001 e-commerce textbook. Here they are on two Cairns sites.

The 7 C's (Rayport & Jaworski) on two Cairns sites
COn a reef or tour operator siteOn a Cairns allied health clinic site
ContextReef photos, next departure and price visible without scrollingCalm layout, phone and hours in the header
ContentItinerary, inclusions, what to bringPractitioner bios, conditions treated, fees
CommunityGuest photos, links to Google and Tripadvisor reviewsPatient reviews and health articles
CustomisationJapanese and Chinese pages; trips filtered by lengthPaths for new patients, returning patients and referrers
CommunicationMorning-of go or no-go status and an SMS pick-up timeReferral form and booking-system SMS reminders
ConnectionPartner accommodation links and a pick-up mapGP referral details, NDIS and Medicare links
CommerceBooking-engine link, agreed in your quoteOnline booking via your practice software, agreed in your quote

In our reading, most of the 7 C's are design and content decisions; connection and commerce (booking engines, payments, forms that write to your systems) are where web development starts. If you searched for a web developer in Cairns, that is usually the part you need.

How it works

How a Cairns website goes from WhatsApp message to launch

Estimated build times from the day your text and photos arrive: 1–2 weeks for WordPress, 1–3 for a business site, 2–6 for a store. Rebuild over the quieter wet months and go into the 2027 dry season with timetables, prices and booking links current.

Start on WhatsApp
  1. Send your URL or idea on WhatsApp

Your current site's link, or a few lines on the business and what the site must do.

  2. Fixed AUD price, on paper

Scope, payment stages, estimated dates and outside costs such as booking-engine fees, in writing.

  3. Design walk-through after you close

Key pages shown on video once your day is done; you approve the design before the build.

  4. Build with this season's content

Hours, alert banner, timetables and price lists go in as fields you can change, tested on a phone.

  5. Launch, with your Google hours checked

Business Profile hours matched to the site, domain and logins confirmed in your business's name, files handed over.

Ask Ashish directly

Ask on WhatsApp

What do Cairns web designers charge for a small business website?

Published Cairns prices start at $995 for a one-page site from Cairns Web Design, domain and hosting extra. Mindesigns starts at $3,500, with $5,000–$15,000 for mid-sized businesses, and Bang Media at $7,500 + GST. Five of the eight providers we checked publish no build price. Ours: A$900–A$4,300 for WordPress, A$1,200–A$6,900 for a custom business site and A$2,400–A$19,500 for an online store, each as one figure in a written quote.

How long does it take to build a website in Cairns?

Published Cairns timelines run from Bang Media's 7–10 days for a brochure site to Mindesigns' 2–4 months for custom work, with Mindesigns at 4–6 weeks for a simple site and Digital Nomads HQ at 6–8 weeks. Our estimates: 1–2 weeks for WordPress, 1–3 for a business site and 2–6 for an online store, from the day your text and photos arrive.

Is GST on top of a Cairns web design quote?

It depends on the studio. Bang Media quotes + GST, so its $7,500 starting price is $8,250 with GST; Cairns Web Design and Mindesigns don't say, so ask whether a figure is + GST or GST-inclusive. Codingclave adds no Australian GST, as an India-based supplier not registered for it. If your business is GST-registered, ask your accountant whether the reverse-charge rules apply.

Is paying for web design still worth it in 2026, or is Wix enough for a Cairns business?

For a one-page site with hours, a phone number and a map, Wix or Squarespace on a monthly plan can be enough. A paid build is worth it once you need a connected booking engine, Japanese or Chinese pages with hreflang, a photo quote form or alerts you switch on yourself. Visitors book reef trips online before arriving and residents find physios the same way; editable alerts pay back the first time a cyclone closes the marina.

What are the 7 C's of a website, and how do they apply in Cairns?

They come from Jeffrey Rayport and Bernard Jaworski's 2001 e-commerce textbook: context (layout and look), content (what the site says), community (reviews), customisation (adapting to each visitor), communication (forms, chat, alerts), connection (links to other sites) and commerce (bookings and payments). The table on this page applies each to a Cairns reef tour and a clinic.

What's the difference between web design and web development in Cairns?

Design is what visitors see and read: layout, colours, photos, words and how pages fit a phone. Development is what makes it work: the content management system, forms, booking and payment connections, speed and security, which is the website developer's part. The studios in our price table, and Codingclave, do both. If a site looks fine but its booking form keeps failing, that's a development job.

Can a web designer outside Cairns build a site for my Atherton, Port Douglas or Innisfail business?

Yes. Sites are planned on calls and shared screens wherever the designer sits, and Digital Nomads HQ ranks for 'web design Cairns' from the Sunshine Coast. We work from India over WhatsApp and video, online 2:30pm to 11:30pm AEST, for businesses from Mareeba to Mossman. The exception is photography: we can't shoot your boat, rooms or farm, so book a local photographer or a studio such as Bang Media.

Will a new website get my Cairns business ranking on Google?

Nobody can guarantee rankings or leads. A new site gives Google clear pages to rank: one per service and area, hours that match your Business Profile, fast mobile pages and real content. Results then depend on competition, reviews, links and time, and for 'web design Cairns' itself the map pack goes to studios with Cairns addresses. Our Australian SEO services page explains what ongoing SEO involves.
