Overview

Our figure for one iPhone and Android app, built from a single Flutter or React Native codebase, is A$6,900–A$43,000 over 4–12 weeks, fixed as one AUD amount in writing before you pay. The gap has a plain reason: we build from Lucknow, India, with no Sydney office. Your company opens the Apple, Google Play and code accounts, and until 4 April 2027 our day falls at 3:30pm–12:30am Sydney time.

Quick answer

What do app developers in Sydney charge in 2026?

Three of the eight app development companies ranking for this search print their own figure: Microknot's simple MVP at A$25,000–A$50,000, Appboxer's average of $50,000–$200,000 and Rocket Lab's typical projects from $100k+. A fourth, 7 Pillars, starts its enquiry form's budget bands at $25K, and theAD's FAQ gives a market estimate of $15,000–$30,000 for MVPs. Codingclave's band for one app on both stores is A$6,900–A$43,000, fixed against a written scope before work starts. Already hold a Sydney quote? Send it and Ashish marks what's missing or priced high.

  • Only 3 of the 8 ranking firms print a price in their copy.
  • PixelForce prices the build only after a fixed-cost 4–8 week scoping phase.
  • Stated timelines run from 2–3 months (Rocket Lab, small) to 9+ months (Microknot, complex).
  • If a grant or the R&D offset funds the build, choose an NSW team.

What Sydney-ranking app developers publish about price (checked 6 October 2026)

Three of eight firms print their own figure. On 6 October 2026 we read the page of every app development company on the first results page for “app developers sydney”, noting what each says about money, time and where the building happens. Searching “app developers near me” from Sydney brings up much the same Sydney-address firms; we are remote, and the last row says so.

Our band starts below the floor on every agency page ranking for this search and ends under Rocket Lab's entry point. Rocket Lab's A$200,000–A$400,000 “national average” sits far above every other range here: one firm's view, not a benchmark. Hourly rates and hours per feature are in our national app development cost guide.

Sydney address, Sydney team? Four delivery set-ups and how to tell them apart

You don't need a Sydney-based app development agency, but you should know where yours works. Few pages in this search say: Rocket Lab describes an Australian-based team, Appboxer an in-house Australian one, PixelForce its Adelaide headquarters; most others stop at an office address.

Choose a Sydney-based team instead if…

  • you want workshops on site, in the CBD or out at Macquarie Park
  • your staff expect a stand-up before 10am most mornings
  • procurement needs an Australian entity named on the contract
  • an NSW grant or an R&D Tax Incentive claim underpins the budget (why that matters)

Best app developers in Sydney: a checking method, not a ranking

We don't publish a ranking: the right firm for a A$20,000 delivery app is rarely right for a banking product. theAD's “Top 5” puts its own agency first with no stated method, on a page dated July 2025 under a 2026 title. Put every shortlisted firm, ours included, through seven checks:

7 questions to ask

  1. Install two apps they have shipped and check the seller name on each listing.
  2. Check the dates on their Clutch reviews.
  3. Ask where the code is written, and who employs the developers.
  4. Confirm the store accounts and repository sit in your company's name.
  5. Ask if the quote becomes fixed once a scope is signed.
  6. Ask who handles each new iOS and Android release, and at what cost.
  7. Treat directory order as partly paid: Clutch says “We may earn a fee for some placements.”
Clutch 'Top App Developers in Sydney', ratings updated 6 Oct 2026 (US dollars as Clutch prints them; list order is partly paid and rotates)
FirmMinimum project (USD)Hourly band (USD)
WavespaceUS$1,000+US$25–49
AppetiserUS$10,000+US$50–99
TechgropseUS$25,000+US$25–49
MagoraUS$25,000+US$25–49
StepInsightUS$25,000+US$50–99
AppelloUS$50,000+US$100–149
LuminaryUS$50,000+US$100–149

Clutch's figures are in US dollars, so each is a larger number in AUD. A low hourly band often points to developers in a lower-cost city or country, which is no mark against a firm (we work from one too). Ask every name on the list the same two things: where do the developers work, and what does the minimum include?

Our hours in Sydney time, and what they mean for test builds and store dates

NSW daylight saving (4 October 2026 to 4 April 2027) moves our Monday–Saturday day, 10am–7pm in India, to 3:30pm–12:30am in Sydney: 1.5 hours in common with a 9–5. From 5 April 2027 it becomes 2:30pm–11:30pm AEST, a 2.5-hour overlap. Every Australian time zone is in the Sydney overview's hours grid; here is what the hours mean for an app.

  • Test builds

A TestFlight or Play internal-testing build finished in our evening can be ready to try the next morning. You note what's wrong during your day, and fixes start that afternoon, Sydney time.

  • Store dates

Apple clears 90% of submissions within 48 hours, so we plan to submit at least two days before a launch date. Saturday is a working day for us, which leaves room to answer a reviewer's note before the week starts.

Dates are from the NSW Government's daylight saving page. These are working hours, not a reply-time promise. Need a 9am call most days? A team on Australian time will suit you better. Evenings and Saturdays fine? Ask for a 3:30–5pm or evening call.

Four small-business app scopes for Sydney, and where each sits in A$6,900–A$43,000

Every agency page in this search that prints its own figure starts at A$25,000 or more, and none sketches a scope a small operator could start with. These four are sized for the industries above. Payments, a second type of user, offline mode and AI features move a scope up the band.

Example Sydney app scopes (examples, not client projects)

What AI app development costs depends on whether AI is a feature or the product. As a feature it sits inside the app price, as in the last row; as a standalone build, our AI chatbot band is A$1,950–A$23,500 (see AI automation in Sydney).

iOS, Android or both? Flutter, React Native and realistic Sydney launch dates

Should a Sydney app launch on iPhone first, or on both? The Australian figures favour both, from one codebase.

  • iPhone leads, Android is a third

StatCounter puts iOS at 62.59% and Android at 37.4% of Australian mobile web traffic in September 2026. That's page-view share, not device ownership, but an iPhone-only launch still leaves out about a third of that traffic. One Flutter or React Native codebase covers iOS and Android app development in a single build; if a feature truly needs native Swift or Kotlin, we'll say so.

  • How long until it’s live

Our builds take 4–12 weeks; the Sydney pages above state 2–3 months to 9 months or more. Apple reviews 50% of submissions in under 24 hours and 90% in under 48, but guideline 2.1, App Completeness, accounts for over 40% of unresolved issues, so we always include a working reviewer login and finished content.

  • App builders or a developer?

Searching “app builders Sydney”? A no-code builder can carry a simple internal tool. Once you need payments, offline use or control over where data sits, a developer-built app is the usual next step.

  • A web app, or design only

If users sit at desks, a browser app can cost less and update without store review: see web app development in Sydney. Need app designers in Sydney rather than a build? See UI/UX design in Sydney.

Hire app developers in Sydney or commission a project: the first-year arithmetic

One mobile developer on staff in Sydney costs about A$112,000 in year one, once the 12% Super Guarantee sits on Indeed's A$100,297 average. The samples are small, so treat them as markers.

First-year cost: Sydney hire vs a fixed project

Fixed project, CodingclaveA$6,900–A$43,000n/aA price, not a salary; optional support A$80–A$240 a month

No row includes recruitment, equipment, leave or payroll, and one developer rarely covers design, back end, testing and store releases alone. Super is at the ATO's 12% rate. Hire in-house when the app is the business; for a first version, a fixed project is the cheaper test. Testing an idea first? Get it scoped in AUD.

MVP Ventures and the R&D Tax Incentive: when funding decides who builds your app

Investment NSW's MVP Ventures grant pays A$20,000–A$75,000 towards a minimum viable product, and one condition settles who can build it: applicants must undertake the funded activities in NSW, so an offshore build, ours included, doesn't fit. Round 3 ran from 9 March to 10 April 2026, with no later round listed on 6 October; check nsw.gov.au before planning around it.

R&D Tax Incentive changes announced in the 2026–27 Budget start from 1 July 2028. If a grant or R&D claim is how you'll pay for the app, hire an NSW team and see a registered R&D tax adviser before signing; this is general information, not tax advice. If funding is a bonus rather than the plan, ask Ashish for a fixed AUD scope to compare.

Privacy and age rules for apps used by Sydney customers

A clinic's booking app holds health information, so the NSW HRIP Act reaches it whatever the practice turns over. Apps likely to be used by children, and apps with social features, bring more rules. Settle them before the scope is signed, because they change screens, consent steps and data storage.

Who are the best app developers in Sydney?

No single firm suits every budget: the builder for a A$20,000 delivery app is rarely the one for a funded banking product. Test each name on your shortlist instead. Install two apps it has shipped and read the seller name, check how recent its Clutch reviews are, ask where the code is written, and get written confirmation that the store accounts will sit in your company's name. Clutch may earn a fee for some placements, and theAD's Top 5 puts theAD first.

How much does it cost to develop an app in Australia for a Sydney business?

Our national mobile app development guide breaks costs down by feature and hourly rate. In Sydney, three ranking firms print their own figures: Microknot's simple MVP from A$25,000, an Appboxer average of A$50,000–A$200,000 and Rocket Lab projects from A$100,000+. theAD's FAQ estimates MVPs across the market at A$15,000–A$30,000. Codingclave builds one iPhone and Android app for A$6,900–A$43,000, agreed in writing before work starts.

What does it cost to hire app developers in Sydney?

Indeed's Sydney average for a mobile developer is A$100,297 a year, from only 9 salaries; 12% super lifts that to about A$112,333. iOS developers average A$110,826 from 19 salaries, and Talent.com puts the role at A$99,799. Recruitment, equipment, leave and payroll come on top. For one app rather than a permanent role, our fixed projects cost A$6,900–A$43,000.

How much does AI app development cost in Sydney?

It depends on whether AI is the product or one feature. Our AI chatbot and document-reading builds on the OpenAI or Claude APIs cost A$1,950–A$23,500, while AI inside a mobile app is priced within the A$6,900–A$43,000 app band. The provider bills usage to your account. From 10 December 2026, substantially automated decisions about people must be explained in your privacy policy.

How long does it take to build and launch an app in Sydney?

Our builds run 4–12 weeks from a signed scope, depending on screens, user types and integrations. Sydney firms that state timelines range from 2–3 months for a small app at Rocket Lab to 9 months or more for a complex one at Microknot, and PixelForce puts 4–8 weeks of scoping ahead of a 3–6 month build. Apple clears half of submissions within 24 hours and 90% within 48, so leave a few days before launch.

Should a Sydney app launch on iPhone first or on both iOS and Android?

Usually both. StatCounter puts iOS at 62.59% and Android at 37.4% of Australian mobile web traffic for September 2026. That measures page views rather than phones owned, but an iPhone-only launch still leaves out roughly a third of that traffic. A single Flutter or React Native codebase serves both stores from one build, so Android doesn't need a separate app. Native Swift or Kotlin earns its place only when a feature demands it.

What privacy rules apply to a Sydney app for a health clinic or for children?

A clinic's app falls under the NSW Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002, and health service providers get no small-business exemption, so turnover doesn't matter. For services likely to be used by children, the OAIC must register a Children's Online Privacy Code by 10 December 2026. Social features can also bring in the under-16 social media minimum age, in force since 10 December 2025, although services built mainly for messaging, gaming, education or health are excluded. Confirm the detail with your legal adviser.

What is a Sydney subscription app with 100,000 users worth?

Its yearly earnings count far more than its user total. On assumed numbers: of 100,000 sign-ups, 25,000 remain a year later and 4% of those pay A$12.99 a month, so 1,000 subscribers bring in A$155,880 a year. Apple and Google remit GST on Australian sales and take commission from the GST-exclusive price, so after GST and the 15% store commission about A$120,450 remains, before running costs. Valuations start from that net figure.
