Overview
On a design-and-build project, design is costed inside one fixed AUD price (business websites from A$1,200, apps from A$6,900) rather than billed as its own invoice. Ashish Sharma leads the work from Lucknow, India. Our day runs through your afternoon and evening, so comments you leave after lunch are worked on that night, and the revised screens are often ready for you in the morning.

Quick answer
How much does UI/UX design cost in Australia?
With Codingclave, UI/UX design sits inside one fixed AUD build price: A$1,200–A$6,900 for a business website, A$2,400–A$19,500 for an online store, A$6,900–A$43,000 for an iOS and Android app and A$9,800–A$98,000 for a portal or custom software, with the number of test rounds written into your scope. Studios that sell design on its own sell time instead. Raw Studio in Sydney, the one studio in the top search results that publishes prices, lists 40 hours for $8,400 + GST (about $210 an hour; its page does not label the currency) and bills the build separately unless you take its design-plus-development plan from $12,000 a month + GST.
- Your figure moves with unique templates, user roles, screen states and test rounds
- Figma-only design for your own developers is priced within the matching website, app or software band
- Design and build together: website 1–3 weeks, store 2–6, app 4–12, custom software 6–16
- Prices checked 6 October 2026

What you receive at each design stage, and what you sign off
Most studio pages name their methods, such as discovery, prototyping and testing, and stop there. Below is the paper trail instead: the file you get at each stage, the tool it lives in and the decision you are asked to make. A wireframe fixes structure in greyscale, a prototype links styled screens you tap through, and code starts only after people have used it.
| Stage | What you receive | Where it lives | What you approve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discovery | Goals, the top user tasks, one success measure and an inventory of every screen | Shared doc and a FigJam board | The scope and the task list |
| Flows and sitemap | User flows and the information architecture: what sits where, under which label | FigJam | The flows |
| Wireframes | Greyscale key screens, including their empty and error states | Figma | Layout and the order of content |
| UI design | Styled screens, colour and type tokens, and the components they are built from | Figma | The look and the component set |
| Prototype and test | A clickable prototype and, where testing is in scope, session recordings and a ranked list of findings | Figma plus the recordings | Which fixes to make |
| Handover | Dev Mode specs, exported assets, accessibility notes and the ownership terms agreed in your contract | Figma plus a PDF | Release to build |
Revision rounds at each gate are counted in your scope. Send the screen that loses you customers and we'll tell you which stage it needs fixing at, and whether that means a tidy-up or a redesign.

UI/UX design cost in Australia: per hour, per project, in-house
Australian buyers meet design priced three ways: studio time in packs or monthly plans, hourly bands on directories, or a fixed project total with design inside it. Per-screen pricing is answered in the FAQ.
Why our totals sit below Australian studio rates
No step is skipped to get there. Our costs are Indian salaries and rent, not Sydney ones. The founder runs each project, so no account-manager layer sits between you and the designer. And the bottom of each band covers a small scope: every extra template, user role or test round moves your figure up the band, and the written scope names what your total buys.
Design time vs design included
Hour packs and monthly plans suit a funded product team with a steady backlog of screens. A clinic, trade business or retailer reworking one site or one booking app is usually better served by a single total that covers design, testing and build.
What a written quote must show
One total for everything payable to the agency. The ACCC's guidance on the single-price rule (Australian Consumer Law s48) says a business showing part of a price must show the total, unavoidable charges included, at least as prominently. Third-party costs outside any agency total, such as Figma seats or participant thank-yous, should be named with an estimate before you sign.
| Option | Published price | Unit | Design only or with build | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Studio hour pack, 40 / 80 / 160 hours | $8,400 / $15,200 / $28,000 + GST (about $210 / $190 / $175 an hour; currency not labelled on the page) | Hours | Design only | Raw Studio pricing |
| Design team subscription | From $8,400 a month + GST; design plus web development from $12,000 a month + GST | Month | Design, or design plus build | Raw Studio |
| UX/CRO audit | From $3,500 + GST | Fixed | Audit only | Raw Studio |
| Ranked Australian UX firms (top seven) | $50–$300 an hour, five of the seven at $100–$199; minimum projects $1,000+ to $50,000+ (no currency label shown) | Hour | Varies by firm | Clutch, October 2026 |
| Directory listings | A few agency cards show minimum budgets from about $5,000 to $50,000+ | Project | Varies by firm | Digital Agency Network |
| In-house UX/UI designer | A$83,724 average base salary, about A$93,800 with 12% super, before leave, equipment and software | Year | Design only | PayScale, 39 profiles, updated 11 Oct 2025 |
| Codingclave | Website A$1,200–A$6,900 · online store A$2,400–A$19,500 · app A$6,900–A$43,000 · portal or custom software A$9,800–A$98,000 | Fixed project | Design and build included | Our price bands |
A single-site redesign often falls below the $50,000+ minimums some ranked firms list. Send your site link or one sentence about the app; we count the screens and reply with one AUD figure.

Working with a design team in India: reviews, files and payment
Our working day starts in your mid-afternoon (3:30pm in Sydney or Melbourne during daylight saving, 12:30pm in Perth) and runs into your night. Feedback lives in Figma comments and short recorded walkthroughs, with an evening video call whenever you want one, and the changes are made while you are off the clock. Codingclave has no office, entity or ABN in Australia; call times for each city are on the Australia page.
Checking an offshore team before you commit
What you can verify about us today: ★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews), which you can read in full; 200+ projects since 2017, with finished products you can open; Top Rated on Upwork; and Founder-led delivery, so the person who scopes your screens is the one answerable for them.
Files, copyright and payment terms
Which Figma account holds the working file, how copyright passes to you and how payments are staged are each confirmed in writing for your business before you sign. Read those clauses before the scope: the FAQ below explains why a copyright transfer needs a signature.
| When (your time) | What happens | Where | Your time needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morning to early afternoon | You comment on the frames posted the day before | Figma comments | About 10 minutes |
| Late afternoon or early evening | Our day has started; an optional call settles open questions | Video call | 20–30 minutes |
| Evening | Frames revised from your comments, with a short recorded walkthrough | Figma | None |
| Following morning (typical, not guaranteed) | Updated prototype link and a list of what changed | Figma | About 5 minutes |

Usability testing on your prototype: who, how many, how many rounds
Our test plans follow Nielsen Norman Group's research: five users surface about 85% of usability problems, several small rounds teach more than one large study, and three or four people per group are enough when user groups differ. Each round's fixes go into the prototype before the next group sees it.
How a session runs
Sessions are remote and recorded, with each participant's consent taken first. They share a screen and think aloud while trying the tasks on the prototype; you can watch live or later. You get the recordings and a findings list ranked by how badly each problem blocked the task.
Finding the right people
Participants ideally come from your customer list, newsletter or social following, because they talk like your buyers. We write the screening questions and task scripts; any thank-you for taking part is yours to choose and pay. No list yet? Where participants will come from, and any cost of finding them, is agreed in writing before the round is booked.
| Product | Who takes part | Rounds × people | Tasks we'd set |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business website | Five people who match your buyer | 1 × 5 | Find a price, then send an enquiry or make a booking |
| Online store | Five shoppers from your category | 2 × 5 | Find a product, use the filters, check out as a guest |
| Booking or service app | Five people per round | 2 × 5 | Sign up, book, then reschedule |
| Portal with two roles | Three or four people per role | 1–2 × 6–8 | Each role's most common task |
The number of rounds inside each price band is set in your written scope. Live already? Ask whether a five-person test should come before a redesign

UX audit for a live site or app: 13 checks and what the report contains
Once a product is live, an audit tells you whether targeted fixes will carry it or a redesign is due, using evidence rather than taste.
What the report contains
Findings ranked by severity, each with an annotated screenshot and, where testing is in scope, a session clip. WCAG 2.2 failures are listed by criterion. A closing fix list is mapped to a build band, showing whether you need a tidy-up or a redesign.
What an AI audit tool can’t check
AI audit tools flag low contrast, missing labels and heuristic slips in seconds, a fair first pass. They can't watch your customers fail a task, don't know your prices or policies, and can't judge whether a screen feels trustworthy to someone about to pay.
| Check | What we look at | What it costs you when it fails |
|---|---|---|
| Top-three task success | Can someone new to you finish your three main jobs? | Each failure is a lost enquiry, booking or sale |
| Mobile tap targets | Button size and spacing at phone width | Mis-taps and abandoned sessions |
| Form errors and recovery | Error messages that say how to fix the problem and keep typed input | People quit rather than retype |
| Australian form details | Address entry that copes with unit numbers, PO boxes, states and four-digit postcodes; ABN fields that accept spaces | Valid customers rejected by the form |
| Navigation labels | Menu words compared with your customers' own words | Services you offer look missing |
| Search and filters | Misspellings, plurals, and filters that combine and reset | Shoppers assume you're out of stock |
| Pricing clarity (s48) | The total shown wherever part of a price is | Checkout surprises and a single-price rule problem |
| Trust at the decision point | Reviews, policies and contact details beside the pay or book button | Buyers stall at the final step |
| Contrast and focus order | Readable contrast; focus visible, in reading order | Hard to read outdoors; keyboard users get lost |
| Keyboard path | The main task completed with a keyboard alone | Some customers can't finish; complaint risk |
| Empty, error and loading states | Empty lists, failed payments, slow data | Blank screens look broken; support calls follow |
| Perceived speed on mobile | What appears first on an average phone over a mobile connection | People leave before the page settles |
| Analytics funnel drop-off | The step with the biggest exit in each key flow | You fix the wrong screen first |
There is no separate audit price list: an audit is scoped and priced in writing, within the band for your kind of product, and confirmed for your business before you sign. Send your live link for an audit quote.

WCAG 2.2 AA at design stage: what Australian websites and apps should meet
Website accessibility has been tested under Australian discrimination law for more than two decades: in Maguire v SOCOG (2000), a blind man's complaint about the Sydney Olympics website succeeded under the Disability Discrimination Act. The duty sits in section 24 of that Act, on providing goods and services. In April 2025 the Australian Human Rights Commission updated its guidelines on equal access to digital goods and services, naming WCAG 2.2 Level AA as the minimum benchmark. They are guidance, not legislation, and reach past websites to apps, software sold as a service, AI-generated services, CAPTCHAs, two-factor sign-in, QR codes and screens on physical devices such as kiosks.
The ABS 2022 survey counted 5.5 million Australians with disability (21.4%), rising to 52.3% of people aged 65 and over. Most 2.2 criteria are settled when a screen is drawn, so the table maps each one to a component. General information, not legal advice.
WCAG 2.1 vs 2.2
WCAG 2.2 became a W3C Recommendation on 5 October 2023, updated 12 December 2024. It adds the six A and AA criteria above and drops 4.1.1 Parsing as obsolete; the rest of 2.1 carries over. Standards Australia's AS EN 301 549:2024 still points to 2.1, and the Commission's advice is to design to 2.2 regardless. An audit report that still scores Parsing was written against the older version.
| Component on your screens | Criterion (level) | Decision made in Figma | Where it usually fails |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sticky header, chat bubble, cookie banner | 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum), AA | The focused field or button is never fully covered | Long forms on a phone |
| Sliders, reorderable lists, map pins | 2.5.7 Dragging Movements, AA | A tap or click alternative drawn for every drag | Price filters and schedulers |
| Icon buttons, close X, pagination | 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum), AA: 24 × 24 CSS pixels | Spacing rules built into each component | Mobile menus and carousels |
| Help or contact link | 3.2.6 Consistent Help, A | Same position on every template | Multi-step bookings |
| Multi-step forms | 3.3.7 Redundant Entry, A | Earlier answers carry forward, with a 'same as billing' option | Checkouts and intake forms |
| Login, two-factor, CAPTCHA | 3.3.8 Accessible Authentication (Minimum), AA | Paste allowed; no puzzle as the only test | Member and client areas |
Disability service providers can see how this applies to referral and intake forms on our NDIS providers page.

Design systems and developer handover, including design-only work
Whether we build or your developers do, design ends in a design system and a handover pack, followed by two practical questions: who pays Figma, and can you buy design alone.
What a starter design system holds
Tokens: named values for colour, type, spacing and corners, ready to map onto CSS custom properties or a Flutter or React Native theme. Components such as buttons, fields and cards, each drawn in its interactive states, focus, disabled and error included. Accessibility notes per component: label text, focus order, target size.
The handover pack
Specs your developers read in Figma's Dev Mode, exported icons and images, a flow map linking every screen, and acceptance notes on how each screen behaves, errors included, packaged with the copyright terms set in your contract.
Figma seats and who pays them
Figma charges seats to whoever owns the team. On the Professional plan, editing seats start from US$16 a month (Full), US$12 (Dev) and US$3 (Collab, for commenting) on annual billing; viewers are free. If the team sits in your name, seats you add for your own staff are yours to pay, and who covers our designers' seats during the project is confirmed in writing before you sign. Check figma.com before you budget.
Design-only for your own developers
We design to your developers' stack (React or Next.js, Flutter or React Native) so Figma components match what they build, scoped and priced in writing within the matching band below. Build-side detail: custom software development and mobile app development.

Reading any ‘top UI/UX agencies in Australia’ list before you shortlist
Clutch (ranking dated October 2026) and Digital Agency Network (around 100 Australian UX agencies listed) are useful for building a long list. Neither tells you what a firm hands over, how it tests or who ends up holding the design file.
Agency, freelancer or AI design agent
An agency brings research, design, testing and often the build under one contract, at agency prices. A freelancer can be quick and good at visual polish; ask who tests, who builds and where the file lives afterwards. An AI design agent drafts layouts in minutes but can't recruit your customers, watch them struggle or answer for accessibility.
What to send for a quote
- A link to your live site or app, if there is one
- The three tasks users most need to finish
- A rough screen or page count
- The user roles, such as customers, staff and admins
- Brand assets: logo, colours and fonts
- Whether you have your own developers
| Signal | What it means | Ask the agency |
|---|---|---|
| 'Featured', 'AD' or a paid membership tier | Paid prominence above other entries (Digital Agency Network) | Which of the work shown is theirs, and from when |
| A ranked position on a review site | Verified reviews, though the site 'may earn a fee for some placements' (Clutch) | Recent reviews for design work like yours |
| An hourly band in '$' with no currency | Clutch prints no currency label, and studio prices may add GST | One total in AUD, with GST treatment stated |
| A $50,000+ minimum project | Enterprise scope | Whether a single-site redesign is in scope at all |
| A logo wall or an award | Evidence about the brand, not your project | The screens they designed and the result they measured |

UI/UX design standards an Australian website or app should follow
Which design standards bind your project depends on what you ship and who uses it. These are the ones that come up on Australian work.
| Standard | Publisher | Governs | Applies to you when |
|---|---|---|---|
| WCAG 2.2 AA | W3C | Accessibility | Any site or app (the AHRC benchmark) |
| Guidelines on equal access to digital goods and services | Australian Human Rights Commission | Meeting the Disability Discrimination Act online | Your business serves the public |
| AS EN 301 549:2024 | Standards Australia | Accessibility of ICT products and services (references WCAG 2.1) | A government or large-organisation buyer names it in a tender |
| Human Interface Guidelines | Apple | iOS layout, navigation and controls | You ship an iOS app |
| Material Design 3 | Android components and patterns | You ship an Android app | |
| Digital Service Standard | Digital Transformation Agency | Australian Government digital services | You build for an Australian Government agency |
Apple's Human Interface Guidelines and Google's Material Design 3 each set a minimum touch-target size larger than WCAG 2.2's 24-pixel floor, and app screens follow the platform figure. Clinics have advertising rules on top: see medical and allied health clinics.
