Website design Mackay prices: what each provider actually publishes

On 6 October 2026 we opened the pages ranking on Google's first page for 'web design Mackay', plus Jezweb, a Newcastle agency that targets Mackay from interstate. Only two publish a figure. WP Wheelie is a Mackay WordPress freelancer with one fixed package. Jezweb gives from-prices without listing what they include.

How much should you pay a website designer in Mackay? For five to eight pages, $2,990 is the single fixed public figure in town, so it makes a sensible benchmark. Hand any designer, us included, that package's spec and ask for a price on the same eight pages.

Matilda Internet, Coffee+Hops, Allways Digital, Black Owl Design, Camotion and Marked Design publish no website prices on the pages that rank. Coffee+Hops spreads costs over 12 or 24 months but gives no monthly amount, so ask what the instalments add up to and who keeps the domain once they stop (ownership explained). Neither WP Wheelie nor Jezweb says whether its prices include GST; ours exclude it, as the note under our price bands explains. If you want to edit pages yourself, see WordPress development.

Year one in Mackay: the build plus twelve months of hosting

WP Wheelie prints no hosting price. To give its row a number, we used the $20–$80 a month that Chillybin, a Brisbane agency, publishes for managed WordPress hosting, and marked the result as an estimate. The same band is used for our own-host row. Domain fees are left out of every row.

At the top of our bands, year one with us costs more than WP Wheelie's Core. The care plan is optional, though: keep a $20-a-month host and hosting adds $240 to the year. Whichever route you take, the page list, exclusions and monthly figure are written down before you sign. Year-two figures and three worked national examples sit under first-year totals, and the website cost calculator gives a rough figure for your own scope.

Which site fits which Mackay business: 11,184 businesses by type

Mackay Regional Council's Economic Profile 2026 counts 11,184 businesses in the region at June 2025, drawn from ABS data. Health care and social assistance gained 118 businesses between 2023 and 2025, the biggest rise of any industry, and firms turning over $200k–$2m grew by 338.

Does a Mackay sole trader need more than a one-page website? Usually not to begin with. 6,464 businesses, 57.8% of the region's total, have no employees. If you offer one service and most callers find you on a phone, a single page is enough. Grow to five pages when a second service or a second patch of suburbs arrives.

A cane-haulage or harvesting contractor's site works hardest before and during the crush: show which districts you cover, what machinery you run and how to book a slot. Mackay Sugar's three mills drew on more than 1,200 cane farms in the 2023 season, according to Nordzucker. Clinics can start with allied health websites. Motels and caravan parks serving the 1.1 million overnight visitors recorded in the year to December 2025 can see accommodation sites, and retailers ecommerce development.

Websites for Mackay METS and mining-supplier businesses

Mining produced $5.3 billion of the region's $14.2 billion value added in 2025, which the council attributes mainly to mining companies running operational head offices from Mackay. Engineering, hire and transport firms supply them, including businesses in Paget, the industrial suburb south of the city centre. Their buyers are procurement officers and site managers, and none of the first-page results for 'web design Mackay' speaks to them. The items below are scope we'd price line by line for a supplier. They are not a claim of past mining work; our B2B builds are on our work page.

  • Capability statement as a web page and a PDF

Procurement teams often want one before adding a supplier to a list. The page can be searched and shared; the PDF gets filed. Cover services, plant, the certifications you hold and a tender contact.

  • Equipment, fleet and project galleries

Photos of machines, the workshop and finished jobs, each with a one-line spec, answer 'can they do it' faster than paragraphs. Compressed images keep the gallery usable on a phone out at a mine.

  • Safety and quality documents in a tidy download area

Safety summaries, quality policies, insurance certificates and induction material, each showing an issue date so a buyer can see it's current. Restricting files to approved clients needs a login, which is a bigger job.

  • Careers pages for project-based crews

Shutdowns and new contracts bring sudden hiring. List roles, required tickets, roster patterns and a short application form so candidates reach you without a recruiter in between.

  • Quote and RFQ forms that take drawings

Accept drawings, specs and photos with sensible size limits, and send each request to the right estimator. File types and recipients are agreed at scoping.

Most capability sites fall in our business-website band, A$1,200–A$6,900. Client logins or a supplier portal count as custom software, priced separately. To start, WhatsApp your capability statement.

Covering Sarina, Walkerston and the Northern Beaches without doorway pages

Mackay Regional Council was created in 2008 by merging the City of Mackay with the Shires of Mirani and Sarina, so someone searching 'Mackay' may live in Sarina, Walkerston or up the Pioneer Valley. The council's 2025 SA2 figures show where people live: Andergrove–Beaconsfield is the largest area, and Ooralea–Bakers Creek has grown fastest since 2015.

Mackay service-area clusters by 2025 population (ABS ERP by SA2, Mackay Region Economic Profile 2026)

City and inner suburbsMackay (city centre SA2) 4,154; Mount Pleasant–Glenella 12,060; South Mackay 7,251; West Mackay 6,443; North Mackay 6,418; East Mackay 3,820Your main pages cover these; no suburb pages needed
HarbourMackay Harbour 676Mention it if you service marine or port clients
Paget industrial areaIndustrial suburb, no meaningful residential countB2B suppliers: put the street address on the contact page

A Sarina page earns its place when it shows Sarina jobs, Sarina call-out terms or photos taken there; copy the Walkerston page and change the town name, and you have a doorway page Google tends to ignore. Where you have nothing specific, one service-area page that names every suburb and town in plain words does the job, backed by the same list in your Google Business Profile.

Send your suburb list on WhatsApp and Ashish will suggest which areas need a page of their own.

Five golden rules for a Mackay trade or service website

Every Mackay site we quote is planned around these five. Use them to check any quote you receive, ours included.

  • Tap-to-call at the top, for people on a job site or in a ute

Put a tappable phone number at the top of every page, visible without scrolling. Someone standing next to a failed pump rings the first number their thumb can reach.

  • Name the suburbs and towns you cover, in text

Write 'Sarina, Walkerston, Eimeo and the Pioneer Valley' rather than showing a map graphic. Google can't read place names inside an image, and a visitor from Bucasia wants to see Bucasia.

  • Quick to load on a patchy regional signal

Compress photos, drop autoplay video and heavy sliders, and test on mobile data out of town rather than on office Wi-Fi.

  • Same name, number and hours on the site and your Google Business Profile

When the site, profile and directories disagree, calls go to old numbers and Google trusts the listing less. Settle on one version and use it everywhere.

  • One quote button per page

Give each page a single obvious next step, such as 'Get a quote', that opens a short form or WhatsApp. Three different buttons leave a visitor unsure which to press.

Online 2:30pm–11:30pm Mackay time, all year round

A remote agency in New South Wales moves its clocks twice a year and Mackay doesn't, so for half the year a Newcastle or Sydney team is an hour ahead: its 5pm close is your 4pm. Queensland stays on AEST (UTC+10) all year and India never changes its clocks either, so our Monday-to-Saturday day, 10:00–19:00 in India, sits at 2:30pm–11:30pm in Mackay in every month. That's two and a half hours inside a 9–5 day, then evenings after knock-off. Message at night and the staging site has usually moved on by morning.

Web designer in Mackay or a remote build: when each makes sense

Most of page one for this search is Mackay studios whose main trade is branding, signage, vehicle wraps and print, with websites alongside. We have no Mackay office, no Australian entity and no ABN. Ashish Sharma founded Codingclave in 2017 and runs it from Lucknow, India.

  • Choose a Mackay studio for on-site work and matched branding

If you need someone to photograph the Paget workshop or a harvester in the paddock on the day, or you want the signage, ute wrap and website from one designer so the brand lines up, a Mackay studio can do that and we can't.

  • Choose a remote build for a fixed scope and written price

If you're a METS supplier writing to procurement teams, need Next.js, a Shopify store or custom features, or just want the page list and price on paper before talking further, a remote build suits. Proof we can show: ★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews), 200+ projects since 2017, Top Rated on Upwork and founder-led delivery. See our work and reviews.

  • Mix the two: Mackay photos and logo, remote build

Your brand studio or a Mackay photographer supplies the logo, colours and images, and we build the site around them. You keep the face-to-face relationship for the brand and a fixed written figure for the website.

Weighing a freelancer, an agency and an offshore team more broadly? The Brisbane page compares all three.

Getting found in Mackay searches: SEO and Google Ads, briefly

Searches like 'seo mackay' and 'google ads mackay' are separate jobs, but the site has to support them: a complete Google Business Profile with the right category and service area, genuine reviews, suburbs named on the site and identical details in every directory. For ongoing work, see local SEO and Google Ads management. Our retainer runs A$990–A$9,800 a month, and any ad spend is paid by you straight to Google on top.

Nobody can guarantee rankings or leads, and we can't place your business in the Mackay map pack; your own Google Business Profile decides that. Background reading: SEO for small businesses and digital marketing and SEO in Australia.

Ask Ashish directly

Ask on WhatsApp

Are Mackay web designers cheaper than Brisbane ones?

Not by much, on published figures. WP Wheelie's $2,990 Core package, the only fixed Mackay price we found, covers up to 8 pages. Chillybin, a Brisbane agency, publishes $2,500–$5,500 for a templated WordPress site, so the Mackay package sits in the lower half of that Brisbane range. Most Mackay studios publish nothing, which makes a wider comparison impossible. Our WordPress band, A$900–A$4,300, is the same whether you are in Mackay or Brisbane.

What's a fair price for a small business website in Mackay in 2026?

For five to eight pages, use WP Wheelie's $2,990 Core package as the local yardstick, because it is the only fixed price a Mackay designer publishes, and it states its inclusions: up to 8 pages and two revision rounds. A from-price such as Jezweb's $990 tells you little until you see what it covers. Whoever you choose, a fair quote names every page, the revision rounds, hosting costs, exclusions and who owns the domain.

What should a website for a mining services or METS company include?

A capability statement as a page and a PDF; equipment, fleet and project galleries; dated safety, quality and insurance documents in a download area; a careers page for project crews; and an RFQ form that accepts drawings. Sites like this usually fall in our A$1,200–A$6,900 band. Client logins or a supplier portal are custom software, quoted separately.

Can a designer in India build a website for a Mackay business, and when can we talk?

Yes, provided the scope and price are written down and you can reach the person doing the work. Codingclave has no Mackay office; Ashish runs it from Lucknow, India, and works with Mackay owners over WhatsApp, email and video calls. We are online 2:30pm–11:30pm Mackay time, Monday to Saturday, in every month, because neither Queensland nor India uses daylight saving.

How do I show up for customers in Sarina, Walkerston or the Northern Beaches?

Name those places in text, either on one service-area page or on a page per area where you have genuine jobs and photos. Match the service area in your Google Business Profile and keep your business details identical everywhere. Avoid a stack of near-identical suburb pages. Sarina, a separate town that was its own shire until 2008, is the area most likely to justify a dedicated page.

Can anyone guarantee my Mackay business ranks first on Google?

No. Nobody can guarantee rankings or leads. Google sets organic positions, and Mackay map-pack visibility depends on your own Google Business Profile: its category, location, reviews and completeness. A well-built site and steady SEO work make you easier to find, but they cannot promise a position. Our retainer is A$990–A$9,800 a month, with any ad spend paid separately to Google.

Are new Mackay businesses still being set up, and do they need a website in 2026?

Yes on both counts. Registered businesses in the Mackay region rose by 497 between 2023 and 2025, with health care adding 118, and unemployment averaged about 2.5% in 2025. Ooralea–Bakers Creek grew 30.2% in the decade to 2025, so new households are looking for trades and services they don't know yet. A clear site with your towns, prices and a phone number is how they find you.

How long does a Mackay website take, and how are payment and GST handled?

Once the scope is signed and your photos and wording are ready, a WordPress site takes 1–2 weeks, a custom business site 1–3 weeks and an online store 2–6 weeks. Missing content is the usual cause of delay. Payment stages and methods are confirmed in writing for your business before you sign. Our prices are in Australian dollars and exclude GST; the note under our price bands explains why.
