Website costs in Australia by type of site
The type of site sets the price far more than your industry does. A brochure website is a small set of pages explaining who you are and what you do, with a way to get in touch; most small businesses need nothing more.
| Type of site | What it usually means | Published Australian price (source) | Where a Codingclave quote sits | Our delivery time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One-page or landing site | One scrolling page with a contact form | A$750–A$7,500 (GoDaddy) | Lower end of A$900–A$4,300 on WordPress | 1–2 weeks |
| 5-page starter | Home, About, Services, Gallery, Contact | From A$2,995 ex GST (iOnline); A$3,000–A$6,000 + GST for 1–5 pages (ExpertMarket, Dec 2024) | Inside A$900–A$4,300 on WordPress, or A$1,200–A$6,900 with custom design | 1–2 weeks on WordPress |
| 8–12 page service business | Service and suburb pages, quote or booking form | From A$3,995 (8 pages) or A$4,995 (10 pages) ex GST (iOnline); A$4,000–A$10,000 SME build (Lovely Pixel) | Middle of A$1,200–A$6,900, moved by forms and integrations | 1–3 weeks |
| Content-heavy or multi-location | 20+ pages, a blog, several locations | A$10,000–A$25,000 custom (Lovely Pixel) | Upper end of A$1,200–A$6,900; if the scope goes past it, we say so in writing before you sign | Agreed in the quote, from when content is ready |
| Online store | Catalogue, cart and payments | A$8,500–A$20,000+ (GoDaddy); A$10,000–A$50,000+ (WP Creative) | Priced on our ecommerce page | See that page |
| Web app or portal | Logins, workflows, integrations | A$30,000–A$150,000+ (WP Creative) | Priced on our custom software page | See that page |
Agency timelines run longer than ours: iOnline says an average 10-page site takes about 2 months from discovery to launch. Stores, portals and apps have their own pages: ecommerce, custom software and mobile apps. For a rough figure on your own page list, try the website cost calculator.
How these figures were gathered: from the published price pages under Sources, read in October 2026, keeping each publisher's GST wording and dating older figures.
City pages, timed to your clock: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast.

What a fixed website price includes, and what costs extra
Two "five-page" quotes can describe very different jobs. The gap is nearly always scope: design work, who writes the words, and which tools the forms connect to.
Next.js or WordPress?
WordPress runs 58.6% of websites whose content management system is known (W3Techs), so almost any developer can maintain it, but plugins need regular updates. Next.js suits sites where speed or custom features matter, with less to patch but fewer developers who can change it.
Four terms written into every quote
Design rounds, the stock image allowance, the post-launch fix window and payment milestones vary with the job. We confirm each in writing for your business before you sign, with the date the code and IP pass to you.
| Item | WordPress website (A$900–A$4,300) | Custom business website (A$1,200–A$6,900) | Costs extra |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design | Theme-based, adjusted to your brand colours and fonts | Designed for your business from scratch | Design rounds beyond those in the quote |
| Platform | WordPress, edited by you | Next.js or WordPress | Paid themes and plugins, licensed in your name |
| Mobile and speed | Mobile layouts, checked on a phone at handover | Mobile layouts, with speed work on key pages | None |
| Forms | Contact and quote forms with spam protection | Contact and quote forms, plus embedded booking or CRM tools | Booking or CRM subscriptions, billed to you by the provider |
| Tracking and SEO | GA4, Search Console and on-page basics, in your accounts | The same, plus LocalBusiness schema | Ongoing SEO and ad spend |
| Words and images | Your words loaded in; stock images to the agreed allowance | Your words loaded in; stock images to the agreed allowance | Copywriting (A$75–A$200 an hour per ExpertMarket, Dec 2024) and photography |
| Handover | Training call and handover notes | Training call and handover notes | Changes after the fix window |

Monthly and yearly running costs after launch
A website keeps costing money after launch, though the bill can be small: a domain and hosting at minimum, usually email, often someone to apply updates. Lovely Pixel puts a small business site at about A$600–A$2,000 a year all up.
How much does website hosting cost in Australia?
VentraIP's shared hosting costs A$11.00 or A$18.50 a month at regular prices, enough for most brochure sites. AWS has Sydney and Melbourne regions and DigitalOcean a Sydney data centre; whether your site is hosted in Australia we confirm in writing for your business before you sign.
How much does website maintenance cost in Australia?
A care plan is a monthly fee for keeping the site updated, backed up and monitored, sometimes with edits. Published figures run from A$60 to A$2,000+ a month. Updates matter: the ASD puts the average self-reported cybercrime cost per small business report at A$56,600 (2024–25).
| Cost | Typical price | Source | Paid to | Needed? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| .com.au domain | A$9.95 first year on promotion, regular price A$22.95 a year; A$20–A$50 a year range | VentraIP; GoDaddy | Registrar, in your name | Yes |
| SSL certificate | Free certificates are widely issued; check your hosting plan includes one | Let's Encrypt | Host | Yes |
| Shared hosting | A$11.00 or A$18.50 a month (A$132–A$222 a year) | VentraIP | Host | Yes, or an option below |
| Managed WordPress hosting | A$50–A$150 a month | WP Creative | Host | Alternative |
| Codingclave hosting and support | A$80–A$240 a month | Our price list | Codingclave | Optional, hosting included |
| Care plan | A$60–A$300 a month | Lovely Pixel | Developer | Optional |
| Entry-level agency support retainer (security, backups, updates) | From A$1,250 a month | WP Creative | Agency | Optional |
| Business email | A$3.50–A$22.90 a month (A$42–A$274.80 a year) | GoDaddy | Email provider | Usually |
| Card payments | 1.65% + A$0.30 domestic; 3.5% + A$0.30 international (1.65% + A$0.30 from 1 Apr 2027) | Stripe | Stripe | Only if you take payments |
| SEO | A$300–A$3,500 a month | GoDaddy | SEO provider | Optional |
A lean site runs on about A$155 a year, self-managed; WP Creative's A$1,250-a-month retainer is a fuller service than most sole traders need. Card fees are Stripe's Australian rates. SEO is separate and ongoing; see our digital marketing and SEO guide.

Year-1 and year-2 totals for three typical Australian businesses
Nearly two in three Australian businesses employ no staff (ABS, June 2026), so a small, owner-run site like A is the most common case. These are typical scopes and price calculations, not client projects.
| Line item | A: sole trader, 5 pages | B: trades, 10 pages + quote form | C: clinic, about 10 pages + booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agency build | A$2,995 (iOnline 5-page package) | A$5,290 (iOnline 10-page A$4,995 + one A$295 integration) | A$5,585 (iOnline 10-page + two integrations) to about A$12,000 (WP Creative consulting site with booking integrations) |
| Agency running costs a year | A$502.35 (domain A$22.95 + iOnline hosting from A$39.95 a month) | A$502.35, as for A | A$502.35 to A$1,822.95 (domain + managed WordPress A$1,800) |
| Agency year 1 | A$3,497.35 | A$5,792.35 | A$6,087.35 to A$13,822.95 |
| Agency year 2 | A$502.35 | A$502.35 | A$502.35 to A$1,822.95 |
| Codingclave build | A$900–A$4,300 on WordPress | A$1,200–A$6,900, custom design | A$1,200–A$6,900 with a third-party booking tool embedded; custom booking is quoted as custom software |
| Codingclave year 1, self-managed (domain A$22.95 + VentraIP hosting A$132) | A$1,054.95–A$4,454.95 | A$1,354.95–A$7,054.95 | A$1,354.95–A$7,054.95, plus the booking tool's fee |
| Codingclave year 1, with our support (domain + A$80–A$240 a month) | A$1,882.95–A$7,202.95 | A$2,182.95–A$9,802.95 | A$2,182.95–A$9,802.95, plus the booking tool's fee |
| Codingclave year 2 | A$154.95 self-managed, or A$982.95–A$2,902.95 with our support | Same as A | Same as A, plus the booking tool's fee |
Add email to each: A$42–A$274.80 a year on GoDaddy's range. Cross-check for B: Lovely Pixel's worked example of a 10-page trades site with suburb pages is about A$6,500. For C, Stripe takes about A$1.13 on a A$50 deposit (A$1.95 on A$100), and a privacy policy review is worth budgeting, as health providers fall under the Privacy Act; see our allied health clinics and NDIS providers pages.
Other starting points: real estate, restaurants and cafés, accommodation, restaurant POS and hotel software.

Why Australian website quotes vary: hours × rate
Every website quote is hours multiplied by an hourly rate, plus licences. Wolf IQ puts a brochure site at 30–40 development hours at A$100–A$200 an hour, which is where the common A$3,000–A$7,000 brochure range comes from.
Web developer hourly rates in Australia
Published figures run from A$50 to A$250 an hour for web designers (ExpertMarket, December 2024), with WP Creative at A$150 for on-demand work. At A$150 an hour, a A$3,000–A$10,000 quote buys roughly 20 to 67 hours.
What an agency’s rate pays for
SEEK's October 2026 salary figures show web developers in the ICT industry averaging about A$99,000 a year, or roughly A$50 an hour across a 38-hour week. A charge-out rate two to four times higher also funds super, leave, software, premises, sales time and unbilled hours.
Why a remote team costs less
Our cost base in Lucknow is lower and we pay no Australian rent. The trade-off is fewer shared hours (1.5 a day with Sydney until April) and no face-to-face meetings.
| Stage | Example hours | At A$100 an hour | At A$200 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discovery and sitemap | 3 | A$300 | A$600 |
| Design of key pages | 8 | A$800 | A$1,600 |
| Build and forms | 12 | A$1,200 | A$2,400 |
| Content entry | 5 | A$500 | A$1,000 |
| Testing on phones and browsers | 4 | A$400 | A$800 |
| Launch, tracking and training | 3 | A$300 | A$600 |
| Total | 35 | A$3,500 | A$7,000 |

DIY builder, freelancer, agency or remote team: which fits your budget
Under about A$1,000 a year and still testing the idea? Start with a builder. Once the site has to win searches in your suburbs and bring in quote requests, paying someone usually returns more than it costs.
Should I use a website builder or hire a web developer?
A builder suits a new business with a tight budget and free evenings. Hire someone when the site has to rank for each service and suburb, send enquiries to your inbox, load fast on a phone and move with you if you change providers. Check a builder's export options first.
Cheaper studios in Australia exist too
Some small Australian studios publish from-prices below ours: Lovely Pixel lists a one-pager from A$590 and 5–8 pages from A$1,490. A from-price on its own tells you little, so compare the inclusion lists, not just the headline.
| If this is you | Route that usually fits | Typical cost | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| New business, testing demand, under about A$1,000 a year to spend | DIY or AI builder | A$500–A$1,500 a year (WP Creative) | Your time, platform lock-in, weaker reach in local search |
| One small, clearly defined job, such as a landing page | Freelancer in Australia | A$50–A$250 an hour (ExpertMarket, Dec 2024) | One person, so illness or a full diary stalls the work |
| You want in-person workshops and support during your morning | Agency in Australia | A$3,000–A$10,000 for 5–10 pages (WP Creative) | Retainers from A$1,250 a month; change requests around A$150 an hour |
| Fixed budget, written scope, happy to work over WhatsApp | Codingclave (remote team in India) | A$900–A$4,300 WordPress or A$1,200–A$6,900 custom; support optional at A$80–A$240 a month | Fewer shared hours, no face-to-face meetings |
Not sure which row is you? Tell us what the site must do and we'll say plainly if a builder would serve you better for now.

How to compare website quotes, and the red flags to check
A fair price is one that matches the scope written into the quote. The Bureau of Meteorology shows why a quote must say exactly what it covers: it first gave A$4.1 million for its new website, then said the full cost, including back-end systems, was about A$96.5 million (ABC, 23 November 2025).
Like-for-like checklist
- Pages, listed by name
- Design rounds included
- Who writes the copy and supplies images
- Forms and integrations: booking, CRM, payments
- SEO set-up, listed as tasks
- Training and handover
- Length of the post-launch fix window
- Whether the price includes GST or excludes it
Red flags in a website quote
- The domain registered in the developer's name
- Hosting or a theme licence you can't take with you
- A "free website" tied to a 24-month contract
- "Unlimited revisions" with no fixed scope
- No staging link to review before you pay
- "SEO included" with no list of deliverables

.com.au domains, GST and who should own what
The domain and the logins decide who controls the website once the builder has gone, and GST decides what the invoice really costs you. Both are worth settling before the first payment.
Who can register a .com.au, and what it costs
auDA's licensing rules require an Australian presence, for example citizenship or permanent residency, a Corporations Act company, or an entity with an ABN. The name must match or abbreviate your business, company or trade mark name, or describe a service or goods you sell. Licences run 1 to 5 years, and .au direct names (since 24 March 2022) carry the same presence rule. Codingclave has no Australian Business Number, so we can't hold a .com.au for you: you register it, and it stays yours.
GST on website quotes
Most Australian quotes exclude GST, iOnline's and ExpertMarket's included, so a GST-registered supplier adds 10% on the invoice. Services from overseas differ. The ATO says a GST-registered Australian business importing services shouldn't be charged GST, and works out whether any is payable under the reverse charge rules. Our prices are in Australian dollars and do not include GST: Codingclave is an overseas (India-based) supplier and is not registered for Australian GST. If your business is GST-registered, check with your accountant whether the reverse-charge rules apply; if it isn't, ask them how GST applies to services bought from overseas.
Ownership checklist: what belongs in your name
- Domain and the registrar login
- Hosting account, or a written handover if we host
- The owner account in your CMS
- Source code or theme files, in a repository you can open
- GA4 and Search Console, with you as owner
- Google Business Profile
- Paid plugin and theme licences
- Email accounts
- Stripe account, if you take payments
- An exit plan, with no lock-in
When the code and intellectual property pass to you is written into the contract before you sign.

Privacy, spam and accessibility rules a small business site should meet
A contact form collects personal details, a newsletter sends marketing, and every visitor deserves a page they can use. Each has an Australian rule behind it, and the basics cost little when built in from the start.
| Rule | Applies to | What our build covers | What needs a specialist |
|---|---|---|---|
| Privacy Act 1988 (OAIC) | Turnover of A$3 million or less usually keeps a small business outside the Act, but health service providers, businesses trading in personal information and Commonwealth contractors are caught whatever their size | A privacy policy page and forms that ask only for what you need | Policy wording by a lawyer |
| Spam Act 2003 (ACMA) | Anyone sending marketing emails or messages | An unticked consent box on sign-up and quote forms | Your email platform: identify yourself, honour unsubscribes within 5 working days, keep proof of consent |
| Disability Discrimination Act (AHRC guidelines, April 2025) | Providers of goods and services, with WCAG 2.2 Level AA as the minimum | Accessibility basics: colour contrast, keyboard access, alt text, form labels | A specialist audit for full conformance |
This isn't legal advice, and a lawyer should write your privacy policy. If your site has forms or a newsletter, ask us on WhatsApp what our build would cover for it.
