Web design Launceston prices: all nine Google results, plus one interstate seller

On 6 October 2026 we opened every organic result on page one for "web design Launceston"; no map pack appeared in the results we collected. Four are studios building websites from northern Tasmania: Wizard, Zest and Kingthing in Launceston itself, and the remote-first Zeteo. The others are Lomond Arthur (a Tasmanian design and photo/video studio), Bloomn (Tasmanian, no town or address published), STRUD Marketing (Brookwater, Queensland), Tassie Websites (Hobart) and the Airtasker marketplace. Only Bloomn and Wizard print a whole-site price, and none puts its price beside anyone else's. Jezweb, a Wallsend NSW agency, is added for the lowest published figure.

What about the average cost of a website design in Australia? Page count and custom work move a Launceston quote more than any national figure would. Our website development page sets out Australia-wide bands, and Melbourne's published prices give a mainland yardstick. Weighing a DIY website builder instead? The trade-off is your own time, because you write, lay out and maintain every page yourself.

What a Launceston site costs in its first 12 months

Is there a monthly fee to have a website? The build is a one-off; hosting and the domain are what keep billing, so a fair comparison adds a year online to the build. No competitor totals it, so these rows do, from published figures only.

Codingclave WordPress, with our cheapest planA$900A$960 (12 × A$80) for hosting, backups, monitoring and supportAs aboveA$1,860 before the domain fee, no GST added

From year two you pay only the hosting and domain lines: $396 a year at Bloomn once GST is added, or $480 at Wizard's cheapest tier. With us, that line is whatever your own host charges, because the site can run on any host in an account under your name, so it doesn't depend on paying us after launch once it's hosted there. Our optional plan adds A$960–A$2,880 a year for owners who'd rather not manage hosting and backups themselves. Jezweb's published first year, $1,590, sits below our A$1,860 plan figure, so compare what each line includes rather than the totals alone.

6,104 Launceston businesses, and why most need a lean 4–6 page site

The ABS counted 6,104 actively trading businesses in the City of Launceston at 30 June 2025 (released 16 December 2025). By headcount:

Is web design still in demand in Launceston?

Business numbers keep climbing: 6,009 in June 2023, 6,070 in 2024 and 6,104 in 2025, even as residents dipped from 71,533 to 71,341 in the last of those years. The next ABS release, scheduled for 18 December 2026 (release schedule), is due to bring June 2026 counts by council. For Tasmania as a whole, see our Hobart page.

20–1992173.6%A custom business site, several forms, each integration scoped separately
200+80.1%A tendered project, usually through procurement
Total6,104100%Not applicable

Together, the first two rows make 5,127 businesses, 84% of the city, run by fewer than five people. Their site has to answer the calls they'd otherwise take mid-job: what's offered, where, a rough price and how to book. That's a lean four-to-six page build; an agency retainer suits a different kind of business.

Greater Launceston and the Tamar: five councils, 11,320 businesses

Customers ignore council lines. A Launceston business takes work from Legana and Riverside in West Tamar, Prospect Vale and Hadspen in the Meander Valley, Perth and Longford in the Northern Midlands, and George Town at the river mouth. With the city, those five councils hold 11,320 trading businesses, nearly double the city's own count.

Does that mean a page per suburb? Only where something changes by area: a mobile mechanic who charges more for Longford than Invermay, or a cleaner working Trevallyn and Riverside on set days. A bookkeeper in the CBD needs one service-area page with a map; copies with the suburb name swapped tell a reader nothing new.

What the site has to do, industry by industry

The same ABS count puts construction first with 994 businesses (16.3%), ahead of rental and real estate, health care and professional services.

The 7 C’s of a website, tested on a Tamar Valley cellar door and a Mowbray plumber

Rayport and Jaworski's seven C's, checked against two northern Tasmanian sites:

  • Context: the cellar door shows this week's tasting hours first; the plumber's page still loads on one bar of signal in a ceiling cavity.
  • Content: current wines with typed tasting notes rather than a scanned list; one page per plumbing job.
  • Community: recent Google reviews, each with the reviewer's first name.
  • Customisation: group size for a tasting; urgent callout or booked quote.
  • Communication: tap-to-call and a three-field form.
  • Connection: directions from Launceston up the Tamar; a link to the licence register.
  • Commerce: a paid tasting booking or wine order; a quote request with a photo attached.

Health counts in jobs as well as businesses: at the 2021 Census, hospitals were the most common industry of employment for working Launceston residents, at 6.3%. And Launceston has been a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy since 2021, a line worth a place on a café's menu page or a Tamar Valley producer's story.

Builder, sparky or plumber? What your site has to do first

Construction is the city's largest industry by business count, with 994 firms, and 581 of them employ nobody (ABS). That sets the brief: a homeowner with a leak or a reno in mind should reach your number from a phone in one tap, and you should be able to add job photos yourself between call-outs, without paying anyone.

If your footer still names CBOS, check it: that work split between two agencies on 1 October 2026. Rented and paid-once offers sold to local trades are set side by side, with three-year totals, on what a Launceston tradie website costs, offer by offer.

Logos, photos and SEO: what we do and who in Tasmania does the rest

We build and maintain websites. Logos, branding, photography, video and print aren't our work. Several Tasmanian studios on the same results page list them, so hire one and pass us the files.

  • Studios on page one that list design and photography

Lomond Arthur presents itself as a design, branding, photography and video studio, with no web design on its list. Wizard offers graphic design, branding, photography and video beside its websites. Zest lists branding and design, and Zeteo lists graphic and print design.

  • Handing their files to us

Ask your designer for the logo as an SVG, the colour codes and full-resolution edited photos, saved in a shared folder you own. We build around them, and the staging link shows every crop at phone size before launch.

  • SEO in Launceston, without the promises

Our SEO and Google Ads retainer is A$990–A$9,800 a month, with ad spend paid by you directly to Google. Nobody can guarantee rankings or leads, and we won't pretend otherwise. Google's map listings come from Business Profiles, so keep yours complete. SEO services and Google Ads management explain the monthly work.

A Launceston web developer, an interstate agency, a marketplace freelancer, or us

Tassie Websites, a Hobart studio on the same results page, warns readers against "getting ripped off by an overseas pretender". Plainly: Codingclave works from Lucknow, India, with no office, ABN or staff in Australia. Instead of asking for trust, here are checks you can run yourself: the domain and logins are yours, the price is fixed before you pay, and you approve the site on staging before it goes live. If meeting across a table matters, choose Wizard, Zeteo, Zest or Kingthing.

  • A staging link before launch

The finished site at a private address, tried on your own handset and signed off before it goes live.

  • Domain, hosting and logins in your name

auDA's Licensing Rules (2.4.4) give a .com.au to a commercial entity with an Australian presence, usually shown by an ABN, under a matching name or by meeting one of auDA's other tests. It's registered to you, never to us, and any hosting outside our optional plan and the WordPress admin sit on your email.

  • One fixed AUD scope

Every page and form by name, the weeks and one price, with the handover of your domain, hosting and admin logins spelled out in the same document.

  • Payments, warranty and support

Payment stages, the bug-fix period and support response times are agreed for your business and set down in the scope document before any work starts.

How much should I pay a website designer in Launceston?

For a four-to-six page site, the two Tasmanian studios that publish prices start at $1,975 (Wizard, indicative, GST not stated) and $2,900 + GST (Bloomn). Add hosting and the first year comes to about $2,455–$3,586. Wizard also charges $97 an hour for later content edits. Zeteo, Zest and Kingthing quote on request. Our WordPress builds are A$900–A$4,300 and a custom business site A$1,200–A$6,900, with no GST added because we're an overseas supplier not registered for it.

What do web designers in Launceston charge per hour?

Only one page-one result publishes an hourly rate: Wizard Web Design charges $97 an hour for content updates, a figure it dates to 1 June 2023. Bloomn, Zest, Kingthing and Zeteo price by project or on request, and Airtasker freelancers bid per task. We don't publish an hourly rate either; each build is quoted as one fixed AUD figure before work starts, so a Launceston owner knows the total in advance.

Is there a monthly fee to keep a website running in Launceston?

The build is paid once; hosting and the domain keep renewing. From year two that's $396 a year at Bloomn including GST, with the domain and CMS updates covered, or $480 at Wizard's cheapest hosting tier with its $55 domain, plus $75–$85 a quarter if you add its care plan. With us it's whatever your own host charges, or A$80–A$240 a month on our optional plan for hosting, backups, monitoring and support.

How long does it take to build a website for a Launceston business?

Bloomn quotes 4–8 weeks, or 2–3 weeks for a straightforward site with quick feedback. Wizard doesn't publish a timeline, and neither do the other page-one studios. Our WordPress builds take 1–2 weeks and a custom business site 1–3 weeks. The usual hold-up is content rather than code: a logo file, job photos and your price list, so gathering those first keeps the schedule short.

Can I update my Launceston website myself once it's live?

Yes, and you should be able to. With us the WordPress admin login is registered to your email, and we show you round it at handover so hours, prices and photos are yours to change. Among the page-one studios, Kingthing advertises full client access, Zest offers CMS training, and Bloomn's hosting fee includes CMS updates every three months. Whoever builds it, ask for the admin login to be named in writing before you sign.

Do I need a web designer based in Launceston?

Only if meeting face to face matters to you. If it does, Wizard, Zest and Kingthing work from Launceston, and Zeteo meets northern Tasmanian clients in person. If not, judge any provider on what you can check: reviews you can read, live sites, a staging link you approve before launch and a .com.au registered to you. With us, a 9-to-5 Launceston day overlaps ours by 1.5 hours under daylight saving and 2.5 hours in winter; the rest is your evening.

How often should a Launceston trade business update its website?

Little and often beats a big rebuild. Add photos of finished jobs when you can, keep your service list and service areas accurate, and reply to new Google reviews. Most of the city's construction businesses are run by one person (581 of 994 employ nobody, according to the ABS), so choose a site you can edit from your phone in a few minutes. Our Launceston tradie websites page covers what a trade site should include and what it costs.

Is it safe for a Launceston business to pay a website company in India?

It's the right question to ask. We have no Australian office or ABN, so protection comes from how the job is set up rather than from a promise. The .com.au and admin logins are in your name from day one, so the site can't be held back from you. The scope names every page and one AUD figure before you pay anything, and you approve the finished site on staging before launch. Our record is public: ★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews) and 200+ projects since 2017. If any of that isn't in writing, don't sign.
