Overview

Postcode delivery zones, POS set-up and test orders are scoped into that price, and the store, domain and apps stay in your business's name. Codingclave is a founder-led team in Lucknow, India that quotes and builds Shopify stores remotely, publishing changes while your shop is closed. For comparison, the lowest agency starter tier published in Sydney is A$7,600 ex GST.

Quick answer

What does a Shopify developer in Sydney cost for a full store build?

Three providers ranking for Sydney publish full bands. Click Click Media's Shopify page (updated 21 Sep 2026) lists a Starter tier of A$7,600–12,000 ex GST, with builds taking 12–14 weeks. Freelancer Aaron Knight puts most projects at A$4,000–25,000 over 4–6 weeks. The Hope Factory, an Elsternwick-based Premier Partner, quotes A$2,000–7,500 for theme work and A$15,000–100,000+ for custom builds with integrations. Codingclave quotes one fixed figure inside A$2,400–A$19,500, with 2–6 weeks typical. Clutch's Sydney hourly bands (under $25 to $150–199, currency not stated) price time, not a finished store.

  • Airtasker's Sydney listing shows A$50–400 per task: one fix you brief and test, not a store
  • Sydney agency maintenance starts from A$500 a month; our support band is A$80–A$240
  • Shopify Basic is A$56 a month (A$42 billed yearly), so disregard US-dollar plan figures
  • For a small store tested and live before Click Frenzy (10–12 Nov), plan to have content in by Wed 14 Oct

What Sydney’s Shopify developers and experts publish about price, checked 6 Oct 2026

On 6 Oct 2026, seven providers held page-one spots for this search, beside Airtasker and Clutch. We recorded only what each page showed that day. Convert Digital, in the top organic spot, and Five Formats publish no figure at all.

Shopify prices as each Sydney-ranking page showed them on 6 Oct 2026. GST basis only where the source states it. Airtasker from a Google snippet, because the page blocks automated readers.

Ex GST means a GST-paying buyer adds 10%, so Click Click Media's starter tier lands at A$8,360. Our figures carry no GST: Codingclave is an overseas supplier not registered for Australian GST. If your business is GST-registered, ask your accountant whether the reverse charge applies. Send your store URL, or 'new store', for one written AUD price.

Who is the best Shopify agency in Sydney? Read the directory and marketplace results first

Page one mixes a directory that may take fees for placement with a task marketplace. Here is what each one actually tells you.

  • What the order on Clutch’s Sydney list means

Clutch states that it may earn a fee for some placements, so the order of its Sydney cards is partly commercial. Check each card's listed location too: a firm can appear for Sydney without an office in the city. Being overseas isn't the problem; we are too. Just know which kind you're reading. Filter by minimum project size first, then read the verified reviews.

  • Why an hourly band can’t sit next to a fixed store price

An hourly figure prices time, not the store. A firm at Clutch's top band that finishes quickly can cost less overall than a cheaper band that needs far longer. Ask any hourly bidder for a capped total against a written scope, then compare that cap with a fixed quote.

  • What an Airtasker price buys

One task: a broken menu, a banner section, an app installed. You write the brief, choose the tasker and test the work. That suits a store that already runs, not a new build or platform move, where scope, product import, redirects and test orders need an owner.

  • Shopify expert, developer, consultant or Partner

Four job titles turn up in Sydney results. 'Expert' is a description anyone can use. 'Developer' usually means theme code and app connections; 'consultant' tends to mean audits and advice. A Partner tier, such as Convert Digital's Platinum or The Hope Factory's Premier, is a status Shopify gives agencies, and it matters when a Plus brief asks for one. Codingclave holds no Partner badge.

  • Five questions to send every name on your shortlist

    1. Fixed price against a written scope, or hourly with a cap?
    2. Whose name are the store, domain and apps in?
    3. When do test orders run, and what do they cover?
    4. What does monthly support cost?
    5. Who actually does the work?

Our answers: 1. Fixed, against a written scope. 2. Yours; we work on collaborator access you can remove. 3. On a test-order evening before switch-over, covering every zone and payment method you use. 4. A$80–A$240 a month, only if you want it. 5. The founder-led team you message on WhatsApp. Still weighing Shopify against WooCommerce or custom? See our Sydney e-commerce page or the Shopify vs WooCommerce vs custom comparison.

Running costs for a Sydney shopfront on Shopify: POS, card rates, Payments and Afterpay

Some Sydney pages quote US-dollar plan prices. Australian stores are billed in AUD: Basic is A$56 a month, or A$42 a month on yearly billing, and Shopify charges 10% GST on the subscription until a GST-registered ABN sits in your billing profile. Shopify Payments is available to Australian stores, and the in-person rates below assume it.

Is Shopify still a sound pick for a Sydney shop in 2026?

For most businesses selling online and over a counter, yes: one stock count across both, a ready checkout, and staff who edit products without a developer. Less so when trade pricing needs heavy custom work, or app fees start to overtake the plan. Staying on WooCommerce? See our Sydney WordPress page.

Shopify AU pricing page, checked 6 Oct 2026: what selling over a counter adds
PlanIn-person card ratePOS Pro per location
Basic1.85% + 0cA$129 a month
Grow1.75% + 0cA$129 a month
Advanced1.65% + 0cA$129 a month
Plus1.45% + 0cIncluded, up to 200 locations with Shopify Payments

Two counters, say in Chatswood and Bondi Junction, on Grow billed monthly come to A$149 plus A$258 in POS Pro before any app. Does Shopify have Afterpay? Yes: Australian Shopify stores can offer Afterpay at checkout. Its fees and set-up, the full plan table with online card rates, B2B and surcharge detail are on the national Shopify page.

Same-day delivery and click-and-collect by Sydney postcode: how Shopify’s local delivery is set up

Australia Post's eCommerce Report 2026 places postcodes 2000 (the CBD) and 2015 (Alexandria) in the national top three for online shopping volume per person, and found 43% of shoppers will pay extra for same- or next-day delivery. Zones are how a Sydney store charges for that speed.

Shopify's rules, under Settings > Shipping and delivery > Local delivery: each location uses either a radius or a postcode list, not both; up to 10 zones per location; lists up to 3,000 characters; an asterisk prefix, so 20* covers 2000–2099; a radius of up to 160 km from a verified address; a minimum order price; and up to 3 price rules per zone.

A worked set-up for a store packing in Alexandria, plus a second warehouse location. Example zones, not a client. Confirm every postcode on Australia Post's finder.
ZoneShopify methodExample entryRule to consider
Inner city and eastPostcode list200*, 201*, 202*Lowest fee; likeliest same-day
North shorePostcode list206*Earlier same-day cut-off
Northern beachesPostcode list2093–2097, 2099, 210*Higher fee or a minimum order
West (Parramatta)Postcode list2150 plus neighboursNext-day if the van runs west daily
New north-west estatesPostcode list2765 (Box Hill, Marsden Park)Review yearly
South-west growthPostcode list2179 (Austral)Minimum order so the run pays
Separate warehouse locationRadiusDistance from that warehouseMinimum order plus a price rule

Why zones need a yearly look. ABS figures for 2024-25 put Greater Sydney's largest growth on the fringes: Box Hill–Nelson up 17%, Austral–Greendale 16%, Marsden Park–Shanes Park 12%. Orders from new streets arrive before anyone edits the list. Check entries on Australia Post's postcode finder.

Click-and-collect. A brand with counters in Surry Hills, Alexandria, Brookvale or Chatswood gets one location each, plus POS Pro per location where staff sell on Shopify POS. Bulky homewares often suit a radius zone from a separate warehouse location, while the shop-front keeps its postcode list.

Cut-offs and tests. A time-slot picker is app or custom work, named in the scope. Set cut-offs by what a driver really reaches: 2pm for Brookvale from Alexandria isn't 2pm for Redfern. Before launch, each zone gets a test order inside it and one just outside. Driver alerts can follow via automation in Sydney.

Selling wine or spirits from Sydney: NSW same-day delivery rules turned into Shopify build work

A Sydney bottle shop or wine label delivering the same day takes on rules no standard theme enforces. Each one becomes a line in the scope.

Moving a Sydney store to Shopify, or fixing one that already trades

Two briefs arrive more often than a blank-page build: a store on another platform that wants out, and a Shopify store that has grown slow and expensive.

  • Moving from Maropost (Neto), WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Wix

Products, variants and customers are imported, plus order history where your old platform exports it; the scope lists exactly what moves. Every old product and category URL gets a 301 redirect to its new Shopify address, which is how you keep your Google rankings as far as anyone can, though nobody can guarantee them. The old store keeps trading until a cut-over evening after you close, and test orders run the next morning. The Neto-specific steps are on the national Shopify page.

  • Already trading on Shopify? A fix and speed pass

Start with an app audit: list every subscription, cancel the ones nothing uses, and replace overlapping apps so the monthly app bill shrinks. Then theme speed (oversized images, leftover app code in the theme), a checkout and payment test across each method you accept, and a check that every delivery zone still prices correctly. All of it is quoted inside the same A$2,400–A$19,500 band.

What moves a Sydney Shopify quote within the band. Example jobs, not clients; your written quote places your job.

Fashion drops, bulky homewares, trade logins: Sydney Shopify builds by store type

Greater Sydney has roughly 36,700 retailers, 23,300 wholesalers and 19,200 manufacturers (our own sums of ABS counts by SA2, June 2025, so approximate). Five common briefs from those product businesses follow, each priced inside our band. They are typical briefs, not clients.

  • Fashion labels

Drop day needs a collection released at a set hour, size variants with a guide, and pre-orders for pieces that sell out before restock.

  • Homewares and furniture showrooms

Bulky items need radius zones from the warehouse, a minimum order for outer zones, and quote-request products for made-to-order pieces.

  • Wholesalers adding direct sales

Trade buyers need their own logins and price lists beside a retail storefront. Trade features exist on plans below Plus; details are on the national Shopify page.

  • Makers and coffee roasters

Regulars want subscriptions with grind and frequency choices, a self-serve pause, and local delivery to nearby café accounts.

  • Retailers with several shops

Owners with more than one counter want one catalogue, stock per shop, POS Pro at A$129 a month for each location, and online orders collectable wherever the item sits.

Live before Click Frenzy or Black Friday: dated planning on Sydney time

How long does a build take before a sale? A small store generally needs about two weeks once content is in, then test-order evenings, then a freeze. Click Frenzy Main is expected 10–12 November (ShopBack's 2026 calendar); confirm on Click Frenzy's own site. Black Friday is 27 November and Cyber Monday 30 November.

Planning buffers counted from 6 Oct 2026, not promises. Your job's length is set in its scope.

Our hours. Monday to Saturday, 3:30pm–12:30am AEDT until daylight saving ends on 4 April 2027, then 2:30pm–11:30pm AEST. Against a 9-to-5 day that's 1.5 hours of overlap, rising to 2.5. Changes go live after your shop closes, and you see progress next morning. The catch: a fault reported at 9am waits until 3:30pm. A six-week build started today would finish around 17 November, leaving barely two test evenings before the Black Friday freeze, so split a bigger store: a first release now, the rest after the sales. How it works

Five steps from a WhatsApp brief to a live Sydney store

Start on WhatsApp
  1. Store URL and brief by WhatsApp

Store link or 'new store', current platform, ship-from postcode, what you sell, and the sale you're aiming for.

  2. Written fixed scope

One AUD figure listing zones, apps, payment methods, any redirects and, for liquor, each NSW step.

  3. Build on an unpublished theme

You add us as a collaborator; your live theme keeps trading while you preview the new theme each morning.

  4. Test-order evening

Each zone, each payment method you use, and the age check where relevant. You approve every order.

  5. Switch-over after you close

Published after trading hours, checked by you next morning, then support if you want it.

What do Shopify developers in Sydney charge per hour, and how does that compare with a fixed price?

Clutch's Sydney list shows hourly bands from under $25 up to $150–199, without stating the currency. Most Sydney providers that publish prices quote per project instead, and agency tiers there are ex GST. An hourly rate only becomes a price once the hours are known, so ask any hourly bidder for a capped total against a written scope. Codingclave doesn't bill by the hour: you get one fixed figure inside A$2,400–A$19,500.

Can I pay someone to set up my Shopify store in Sydney, and what should stay in my name?

Yes. Agencies, freelancers, taskers and remote teams all do it. Keep the Shopify account, domain, every app subscription and the billing card in your business's name, and give the developer collaborator access rather than your login, so you can remove them any time. Have theme-code ownership on final payment written into the scope.

Can you move my Sydney store from Neto or WooCommerce to Shopify without losing Google rankings?

We move products, customers and, where the old platform exports it, order history, and every old product and category URL is redirected to its new Shopify address. Those redirects are what protect rankings, though no developer can guarantee them. Your old store keeps trading until a cut-over evening after you close, and test orders run before you approve the switch. Send your current store URL and the move is priced as one fixed figure.

Shopify expert or Shopify developer: what's the difference when hiring in Sydney?

'Shopify expert' is a description anyone can use, not a qualification. 'Developer' usually means someone writing theme code and connecting apps, while an 'expert' page may also sell design or marketing. The status Shopify itself awards agencies is a Partner tier, such as Platinum or Premier. Whatever the label, ask what gets built, who tests it, and whether the price is fixed before work starts.

How much is Shopify POS for a shop in Sydney?

Shopify's Australian pricing page lists POS Pro at A$129 a month per location, on top of your plan, such as Grow at A$149 a month. Plus includes POS Pro locations, up to 200 with Shopify Payments. In-person card payments cost 1.85% on Basic down to 1.45% on Plus, with no fixed cents per tap.

How do I set up Shopify local delivery by Sydney postcode?

Open Settings, then Shipping and delivery, then Local delivery, and pick a location. Choose either a radius of up to 160 km or a postcode list, with up to 10 zones per location. An asterisk matches prefixes, so 206* covers north shore postcodes starting 206. Add a minimum order price, then place a test order in each zone.

Can my Shopify store do same-day alcohol delivery in Sydney?

Yes, if your licence allows it and the store follows the NSW rules: deliveries only 9am to midnight Monday to Saturday and 9am to 11pm Sunday, age verified at purchase, ID checked at the door, no unattended delivery, online self-exclusion, refusal records kept 12 months and reports twice a year. Check with Liquor & Gaming NSW.

Is it safe to hire a remote Shopify developer for a Sydney store?

It can be, if control stays with you: store, domain and apps in your name, collaborator access you can revoke, a fixed written price, and test orders you approve. Never send card details by chat. Our prices are in AUD with no GST added, as we're an overseas supplier not registered for it. We work Monday to Saturday, 3:30pm to 12:30am AEDT (2:30pm to 11:30pm AEST after daylight saving ends on 4 April 2027), so a morning fault waits for our afternoon start, while switch-overs run after your shop closes.
