Overview

Every conversion action is test-fired before spend goes out, and each monthly report shows what an enquiry cost you. Our fee sits in an A$990–A$9,800 monthly band; Google bills your clicks to your card, plus 10% GST for an Australian business address. If your budget is too thin for a fee, the first WhatsApp reply says so. Founder Ashish Sharma runs Codingclave from Lucknow, India, online 3:30pm–12:30am AEDT, Monday to Saturday.

Quick answer

How much does a Google Ads agency cost in Australia?

Expect three monthly costs: a management fee, the clicks Google bills, and 10% GST on those clicks. Digital Nomads HQ's July 2026 cost guide puts the Australian management norm at A$800–A$2,000 a month, or 10–20% of ad spend. Our fee is a monthly amount in an A$990–A$9,800 band, set by how many campaigns and locations you run and confirmed in writing before you sign; the totals below use the A$990 floor. Compare quotes on all three costs together.

  • A$1,000 spend + A$100 GST + A$990 fee: from A$2,090, about where a fee starts to pay
  • A$1,500 spend + A$150 GST + fee: from A$2,640
  • A$3,000 spend + A$300 GST + fee: from A$4,290
  • A$10 a day caps at A$304 of spend (A$334.40 with GST): test money, not a fee-paying budget
  • Nobody, us included, can guarantee you leads or a ranking

Three lines on the monthly cost: our fee, Google’s spend, and GST on that spend

Any Google Ads arrangement puts three lines in your books: the management fee for the work, ad spend that Google charges for clicks, and GST that Google adds to that spend. We send only the first; the other two run straight between you and Google. More on how we work with Australian businesses.

  • Why your ad spend never passes through us

Google charges the card held in your own account, so no margin can hide inside your media money. If a provider wants spend paid to them, ask for Google's invoice.

  • GST on Google’s charge

Google's tax help page says Google Ads sales in Australia attract 10% GST where the account has an Australian business address, invoiced by Google Australia Pty Limited; SmartCompany dates the change to 1 November 2016. Ask your accountant about claiming it on the BAS.

  • A fixed monthly fee or a slice of spend

On A$5,000 of spend, a 10–20% fee is A$500–A$1,000, and it grows with the budget whether or not enquiries follow. Ask which model any quote uses.

What a click costs in Australia in 2026, by industry, and how many clicks your budget buys

Digital Nomads HQ's click price index puts the median Australian search click at A$3.81 in May 2026, across more than 8,400 service keywords. Industry moves that from A$0.79 in hospitality to A$17.48 in legal, and spreads within an industry are wide: the middle half of trades keywords runs A$2.85–A$30.82.

Clicks rose 31% between January and May 2026 and sit 21% above a year earlier, while search demand fell 23%. First Page gives one A$2–A$4 range; most ranking agencies give none.

A click is not an enquiry; the worked example shows the gap for one trade. Medians hide your own keywords, so tell us your service and suburbs on WhatsApp and we'll list the terms we'd target and what they cost.

Worked example: a trades business putting A$1,500 a month into search

Arithmetic on published medians, not a forecast or a past client. A plumber sets A$49.34 a day, which Google can bill up to A$1,500 a month; with A$150 of GST and our A$990 band floor, the month costs A$2,640. The A$9.25 trades median buys about 162 clicks; “plumber Brisbane”-style searches at the A$18.75 Brisbane median, about 80.

Enquiries needed for a target all-in cost per enquiry on A$2,640 a month (our arithmetic, enquiries rounded up, May 2026 medians)

A$604427%55%
A$1002717%34%
A$1501811%23%
A$250117%14%

At the 4–8% conversion localsearch's calculator assumes, 162 trade clicks bring about 6–13 enquiries, roughly A$200–A$440 each all-in. What decides it is the most you can afford per enquiry: job margin × share of enquiries you win. With A$600 of margin and one enquiry in three won, that ceiling is A$200: at 8% this plumber breaks even, at 4% the month loses money. A tighter suburb radius, a landing page that converts and a phone answered fast move it. localsearch's own 2–3 leads on A$2,000 fits about 133 clicks at A$15 converting near 2%.

Send your job margin and win rate and we'll say whether Ads can pay before you spend; see also our tradies page.

Search, Performance Max, Shopping, and the Local Services Ads question

Pick the first campaign by what you sell and how much conversion data the account holds. Most service businesses start on Search, where the search terms report shows the words behind each click.

  • Shopping starts with the feed

Shopping runs on product data, so the early weeks go on titles, prices, stock and images; store work sits on our e-commerce and Shopify pages.

  • No “Google Guaranteed” badge in Australia

Google's Local Services page lists 11 countries, from Austria to the United States, and Australia is not one of them. For trades, Search with call tracking covers that ground; if someone sells you “Google Guaranteed” ads here, ask which product they mean.

Daily budgets, minimum spend and why capital-city clicks cost more

Google sets no minimum spend; you pick an average daily amount and change it whenever you like. The floors come from agencies: localsearch asks for at least A$1,500 a month of ad budget, Impressive works best above A$5,000, First Page cites A$1,500–A$5,000 for small businesses, and Digital Nomads HQ's typical range runs A$1,500–A$15,000.

  • A daily budget is an average, not a cap

Google's help page says a campaign may spend up to twice its average daily budget on one day, but no more than 30.4 times it across the month. A$10 a day stops at A$304, or A$334.40 with GST; at A$50 a day a busy Tuesday can cost A$100, the month A$1,520.

  • Regional towns

Digital Nomads HQ publishes no figures for smaller towns, so check Google's Keyword Planner. Places such as Toowoomba or Ballarat see fewer searches, so a tight radius matters more than a higher bid.

  • Under about A$1,000 a month of spend

A monthly fee eats too many clicks there. Ask instead whether a one-off setup suits you (campaigns, negatives, tracking test-fired), then run the monthly routine below yourself; any quote is confirmed in writing before you sign. WhatsApp us about a one-off setup.

Median “service + city” search CPC, May 2026 (Digital Nomads HQ, 374 keywords across six cities, data checked 6 Oct 2026); click counts are our arithmetic, rounded

A city name in the search lifts the median click to 3.6 times (Adelaide) to 6.1 times (Sydney) the national figure. Before raising the budget, tighten the suburb list, target people located there rather than merely interested, and keep keywords service-specific.

Conversion tracking, and what “setup is incomplete” usually means

Without recorded conversions, automated bidding has nothing to aim at and nobody can tell you what an enquiry costs. Before launch, each conversion action is fired with a test enquiry, and a screenshot of it registering reaches you on WhatsApp.

What gets tracked

Genuine form submits, calls from ads, website calls above a minimum length, WhatsApp taps as a lower-value action, and purchases. Routing enquiries into a CRM is on our AI and automation page.

Common causes of an incomplete, unverified or inactive conversion status, and the check for each (Google Ads Help, checked 6 Oct 2026)

The monthly work: search terms, negatives, Quality Score and the landing page

What gets done each month, all of it visible in your change history:

  • Search terms and negative keywords

The search terms report lists the real searches behind your clicks, and every category draws people who will never buy, as the table shows for this service. Negatives don't match close variants, so add plurals and synonyms.

  • Quality Score and the landing page

Google rates keywords 1–10 on expected click-through rate, ad relevance and landing page experience. A “below average” page costs you on every click until it loads fast on a phone, repeats the ad's promise and has a working call button (website development).

  • Invalid clicks and competitors clicking your ads

Google filters clicks it judges invalid out of reports and payments. IP exclusions block only a fixed office connection; the bigger leak is usually broad keywords and loose location settings.

  • Reporting

A plain-English monthly report from the account's own data:

    1. Spend, matching Google's invoice
    2. Conversions by action: forms, calls and WhatsApp taps apart
    3. Cost per enquiry, with the count beside it
    4. Search-term changes: negatives added, keywords paused
    5. Next month's test, written in advance

Rules that change campaigns for clinics, NDIS providers, migration agents and finance

These rules shape ad copy, assets and landing pages from the first draft. Summaries of Ahpra, OMARA and Google policy as at 6 October 2026; check the detail with your adviser.

  • Ahpra-regulated health services

Section 133 of the National Law bans testimonials in advertising a regulated health service, along with misleading claims and offers without stated terms, which covers every headline, sitelink and landing page. See Ahpra's advertising hub and our clinics and dental pages.

  • NDIS providers

Referral forms can hold an NDIS number or diagnosis, so the conversion tag records only that a referral was sent, never its contents, and enhanced conversions stay off on referral forms. See NDIS providers.

  • Registered migration agents

The Migration Agents Code of Conduct (2021) requires the MARN in any advertisement for immigration assistance, so it goes into the ad text, and no ad implies a visa outcome. See education and migration agents.

  • Financial services

Since 30 August 2022, financial services advertisers targeting Australia must pass Google's verification, showing ASIC authorisation, usually after verifying through G2RS first. Finish it before any campaign is built.

Badges, guarantees and account access: questions to put to any provider

Google endorses no single agency. A Partner badge needs US$10,000 of spend across managed accounts over 90 days, a 70% optimisation score and half the agency's strategists certified; Premier Partner marks the top 3% per country, re-assessed yearly. Both reflect an agency's spend, client growth and process, not your results, and Codingclave holds neither.

Test any guarantee three ways: who controls the tracking, what the baseline is, and how long the window runs. First Page's 40% promise covers only ads already in profit, within 90 days; Impressive's “performance-based” fee names no public target. netStripes guarantees no leads or rankings, and neither do we.

Seven questions to put to any Google Ads provider, including us (October 2026)
AskA good answerRed flag
Whose name is the account under?Yours: your login, your card or invoiceThe agency's login or billing profile
Do I get Admin access, not just read-only?Yes, from day one; agency access is yours to removeRead-only reporting access
Can I open the search terms report any time?Yes, live, in your accountSummary PDFs only
What conditions sit behind the guarantee?A written list, or “we don't guarantee leads”Conditions revealed after you sign
Is my spend billed by Google or by you?Google, straight to your cardSpend bundled into the agency's invoice
Are “Google Guaranteed” ads in the plan? No, or the exact product namedOffered here, though Australia isn't on Google's list
What is the minimum term and notice period?Stated in writing before you signLeft for the onboarding call

Leaving any provider, including us:

  1. Confirm you hold Admin access, then remove the agency's manager-account link.
  2. Keep conversion actions and the Google tag in your own GA4 property.
  3. Export negative keyword lists and the search terms report.
  4. Download the change history.
  5. Move billing to your own card.

In-house, freelancer, Australian agency or a team in Lucknow: who should run your account

Codingclave is founder-led: Ashish Sharma started it in Lucknow, India in 2017 and still runs delivery, with 200+ projects since 2017, ★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews) and Top Rated on Upwork. None of that is Google Ads-specific proof, so use the vetting questions above. There is no Codingclave office, ABN or company in Australia; work runs over WhatsApp first, then email and video calls. How it works

How a Google Ads engagement starts, step by step

Start on WhatsApp
  1. Budget, industry and service area

Send your monthly budget, industry and suburbs on WhatsApp; the reply brings click maths from the CPC table, an all-in total, and a plain answer if the budget is too thin.

  2. The account stays in your name

You open the account, or keep yours, and invite us as Admin. Login, card and billing remain yours.

  3. Tracking built, then test-fired

Every conversion action fires on a test enquiry, and the screenshot proving it lands on your WhatsApp.

  4. Build sent for your sign-off

Keywords, negatives and ad copy come to you for approval, then go live after Google's review.

  5. The first few weeks

Bidding runs a learning period, so search terms get the closest attention early; the rhythm after that is set in writing before you sign. Impressive's published timeline says most campaigns show useful conversion data in 30–60 days, with improvement typically by 90. Judge cost per enquiry on 60–90 days of data; nobody can promise when a campaign pays.

  6. Monthly report and video call

The five-point report, then a video call in your afternoon or early evening.

Ask Ashish directly

Ask on WhatsApp

What is the average Google Ads management fee in Australia?

Digital Nomads HQ's July 2026 guide puts the usual Australian agency fee at A$800–A$2,000 a month, or 10–20% of ad spend; First Page cites A$800–A$2,000 or 12–20%. SOUP, the only ranking agency publishing its own fee, starts at A$2,500 a month. Codingclave's fee falls in an A$990–A$9,800 monthly band. Google bills the clicks separately with 10% GST, so ask every provider for fee, spend and GST added together.

Is $10 a day enough for Google Ads?

Enough to test, rarely enough to justify a management fee. Google sets no minimum but caps a month at 30.4 times the daily budget, so A$10 a day bills up to A$304, or A$334.40 with GST. At Digital Nomads HQ's May 2026 medians that buys about 33 trade clicks or 385 hospitality clicks. At the 4–8% conversion localsearch's calculator assumes, 33 trade clicks bring roughly one to three enquiries.

Does Google Ads charge GST in Australia?

Yes. Google's tax help page says Google Ads sales in Australia carry 10% GST where the account has an Australian business address, invoiced by Google Australia Pty Limited; SmartCompany dates the charge to 1 November 2016. A$1,500 of clicks becomes A$1,650 on your card. Tax invoices sit under Billing, then Documents. If you are GST-registered, ask your accountant about claiming it on your BAS.

Do I have to sign a contract, and who owns the account if I leave?

Terms vary: localsearch works month to month, SOUP asks for three months then rolls monthly, netStripes takes 30 days' notice and Dilate promotes no lock-in. With Codingclave, the term, notice period, any setup charge and payment method are confirmed in writing for your business before you sign. Ownership matters more: under Admin, then Access and security, check your own email holds Admin access, not read-only. On leaving, remove the agency's manager-account link; conversion actions, negative lists and change history stay with you.

Why does Google Ads say conversion tracking setup is incomplete?

Usually Google hasn't yet seen a conversion tag fire, or it fired once and stopped. Every new action stays unverified until a real or test conversion registers. Common causes: a tag missing from the thank-you page after a redesign, a consent banner blocking it, or an action imported from GA4 and also counted by the Google tag. Open Tag Assistant from the conversions summary, send a test enquiry, and compare with the tracking table above.

Is Google Ads worth it for small business in 2026?

It can be, with the numbers in front of you. Digital Nomads HQ's index shows Australian clicks up 31% between January and May 2026 and 21% on a year earlier, while search demand fell 23%: dearer clicks from a smaller pool. Ads pay when a typical job's margin covers the cost per enquiry times the enquiries needed to win one job. Regional businesses see fewer searches, so radius matters more than bids. Run the trades worked example with your own margin first.

Can a Google Ads agency guarantee leads?

No, and that includes us. Click prices are set in a live auction, competitors change bids without notice, and whether a visitor enquires depends on your page, your offer and how fast the phone is answered. Ask any guarantee who controls the tracking, what baseline it uses and how long the window runs. A provider can commit to the work instead: tested tracking, reviewed search terms and reports you can verify.

What ad agency does Google use?

Google doesn't assign or endorse an agency; you choose who manages your account, or run it yourself. Its Partners program badges agencies on managed spend, optimisation score and certifications, and Premier Partner marks the top 3% in each country, assessed annually. Badges reflect scale and process, not your results. Codingclave is not a Google Partner; judge us on the vetting questions above.
