Overview
For comparison, Melbourne's published prices run from A$80 Airtasker tasks to A$5,000–A$50,000+ ex GST agency builds. Ashish Sharma leads the work from Lucknow, India, and we work on your store during Melbourne evenings, 3:30pm–12:30am AEDT, Mon–Sat, so the switch-over happens after you close rather than mid-trade.

Quick answer
How much does it cost to hire a Shopify developer in Melbourne?
Anywhere from about A$80 to more than A$50,000, depending on the job. Airtasker's Melbourne page shows $80–$200 per task in Google's result. Insider Media in Port Melbourne packages a starter store from A$1,995. The Hope Factory in Elsternwick charges A$5,000–A$15,000 ex GST to build on a theme, A$15,000–A$50,000 for a custom store and A$50,000+ for Shopify Plus, or sells hour blocks at about A$176 an hour inc GST. Shopify's own plan is extra, from A$56 a month on Basic. With us, a whole store job is one figure fixed in writing inside A$2,400–A$19,500: a theme refresh with clean product data sits near the bottom; subscriptions, trade price lists or a Neto or WooCommerce move with order history sit near the top.
- Agency hourly rate: about A$176 inc GST; 20 hours is about A$3,520
- Packaged stores from A$1,995 (10 products, GST basis not stated)
- Ours: one fixed figure, no GST added, test orders included
- Black Friday (27 Nov): short-job content due Fri 30 Oct

Shopify experts in Melbourne: what each charges, by the budget you have
Most Melbourne Shopify pages want a discovery call before they mention money. On 6 October 2026 we checked eight providers' published figures (Airtasker's from its Google result) and sorted each one by the budget it fits, with the GST basis the provider states. Can you simply pay someone to build the store? Yes, from about A$1,995 for a capped package.
| Budget you're working with | Provider (base suburb) | Figure as published | GST basis stated | Published timeline | What the figure buys |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under A$500 | Airtasker task posters, Melbourne | $80–$200 per task (Google result, 6 Oct 2026) | Not stated | Not published | One tweak; no brief, test orders or redirect map |
| Under A$500 a month | Codingclave support (Lucknow, India, remote) | A$80–A$240 a month | No GST charged: Codingclave is an overseas supplier not registered for Australian GST | Ongoing | Small fixes, app updates and sale-week edits |
| A$1,000–A$2,000 | The Hope Factory (Elsternwick) | A$1,760 for one 10-hour development block | Inc GST | Not applicable | Ten hours of work on an existing store |
| A$2,000–A$5,000 | Insider Media (Port Melbourne) | From A$1,995 (10 products, 5 collections), A$2,995 (30 products), A$4,995 (100 products) | Not stated | Not published | Packaged set-up on a theme |
| A$2,400–A$19,500 | Codingclave (Lucknow, India, remote) | One fixed figure inside the band, given in writing | No GST charged: Codingclave is an overseas supplier not registered for Australian GST | 2–6 weeks after your content arrives | Build, test orders, redirects on platform moves |
| A$5,000–A$15,000 | The Hope Factory | Theme customisation store build | Ex GST | 4–6 weeks | Your store on an existing theme |
| A$15,000–A$50,000 | The Hope Factory | Custom Shopify build | Ex GST | 10–12 weeks | Custom design, integrations, migration |
| A$50,000+ | The Hope Factory; Flux (South Yarra) | A$50,000+ Plus build; Flux: no price, brands at $5M–$100M+ revenue | Ex GST; not applicable | Not published by Flux | Shopify Plus and headless storefronts |
| No figure | Seventyfour Design (Pascoe Vale South), White Peak Digital (Collins St), Vrinsoft (Niddrie) | 'Depends', budget-flexible, or a contact form | Not applicable | 8–12 weeks; 5–6 weeks; none | A quote after a call |
| In US dollars (footnote) | Shopify Partner Directory, a Melbourne partner's card | US$250–US$10,000 (one partner card, Google result, 6 Oct 2026) | Not stated | Not published | A listing; many cards say 'Contact for pricing' |
Our band overlaps Insider's packages and The Hope Factory's theme tier, and it isn't the cheapest line: one Airtasker task or a 10-product package costs less. Product caps need a closer look, though. A 10-product cap where each style has 24 variants is 240 SKUs, so ask each provider how it counts them.
Should you build it yourself instead of hiring? If you have under about 20 products, one payment method and time to test checkout, yes; hire once there's a migration, a variant matrix or a sale date you can't miss. None of the rows above includes Shopify's own monthly plan, from A$56 on Basic (plans in AUD). Is Shopify free for developers? Not for your store: whoever builds it, the live shop needs a paid plan. Wondering whether Shopify is still worth it this year, or how it compares with WooCommerce? The national Shopify page answers the first, and the Melbourne platform comparison the second.
Send your store URL on WhatsApp and get a fixed figure back in writing.

No Melbourne office: how a remote Shopify team works, and when to pick a Melbourne agency
Some Melbourne pages never say where the developers sit. Ashish Sharma leads every build from Lucknow, India. There's no Melbourne office, Australian phone line or ABN; you talk to Ashish on WhatsApp, by email or on a video call.
Your store stays in your name
The store, its apps and the subscription sit in your business name and on your card; how access works with an offshore team is set out on the national Shopify page.

|---|---|---|
| Workshops in person | Flux, on Chapel St in South Yarra, offers meetings | Video calls and WhatsApp only |
| A Shopify Premier or Plus Partner | The Hope Factory (Premier); Seventyfour Design (Plus Partner); Flux (describes itself as a Shopify Plus agency) | No Shopify Partner status, and not in Shopify's Partner Directory |

Shopify developer charges in Melbourne: hourly rates turned into job totals
The Hope Factory sells development in 10-hour blocks of A$1,760 inc GST: A$176 an hour, or A$160 before GST, with 10% off for a monthly commitment and 5% for quarterly. On Clutch's Melbourne Shopify list, the top band shown is $150–$199 an hour and several firms sit in it; others list $50–$99 or $25–$49, and some show no rate at all. Nobody turns those rates into budgets, so the table does.
| Job (example hours) | Hope Factory blocks, A$176/hr inc GST | With 10% monthly-commitment discount, A$158.40/hr | Clutch top band, $150–$199/hr | A lower Clutch band, $50–$99/hr |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Theme bug or app conflict (5 h) | A$880 | A$792 | $750–$995 | $250–$495 |
| Theme rework (20 h) | A$3,520 | A$3,168 | $3,000–$3,980 | $1,000–$1,980 |
| New store on a theme (60 h) | A$10,560 | A$9,504 | $9,000–$11,940 | $3,000–$5,940 |
| Migration with integrations (120 h) | A$21,120 | A$19,008 | $18,000–$23,880 | $6,000–$11,880 |
Clutch figures carry Clutch's own currency and GST basis, and its firms' minimum projects start from $1,000+ upward, so a 5-hour fix sits below what several will take on.
Codingclave doesn't sell hours. The 60-hour theme build in the table, A$10,560 at agency block rates, comes back from us as one figure inside A$2,400–A$19,500, with no GST added and fixed for the written scope. Small ongoing fixes come under support at A$80–A$240 a month. Trying Shopify yourself first costs little: after three free days, Shopify charges A$1 a month for the first three months.

Counting from 6 October: when each published Melbourne timeline lands
Timelines in weeks hide the calendar. Counting from Tuesday 6 October 2026, this is where each stated range ends, set against Black Friday on Friday 27 November. Insider Media, Vrinsoft and Flux publish no timeline.
| Provider | Published timeline | Lands between | Before Black Friday (27 Nov)? |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Hope Factory, theme build | 4–6 weeks | Tue 3 Nov – Tue 17 Nov | Yes, with little test time at the late end |
| The Hope Factory, custom or migration | 10–12 weeks | Tue 15 Dec – Tue 29 Dec | No |
| Seventyfour Design | 8–12 weeks | Tue 1 Dec – Tue 29 Dec | No |
| White Peak Digital | 5–6 weeks | Tue 10 Nov – Tue 17 Nov | Yes, tight |
| Codingclave | 2–6 weeks from the day content arrives | Content in by Fri 9 Oct gives Fri 23 Oct – Fri 20 Nov | Short jobs yes; a 6-week migration lands too close to the sale |
Our clock starts when products, photos and copy arrive, not at signing. Avoid switching a large Neto or WooCommerce store in the fortnight before Black Friday: redirects, imported customers and order history need real traffic to prove themselves. A big migration is safer going live in January, after Boxing Day trade settles; the Neto and WooCommerce method lists the steps.

Cup Day, Black Friday and Boxing Day 2026: the last safe day to brief a Melbourne store
No Melbourne Shopify provider we read publishes a retail calendar, so here is one. Each row allows two weeks of real orders before the sale, then works back for a 2-week job (theme rework, small store) and a 6-week job (a larger new build; platform moves of a trading store wait for January). Cup Day is a Victorian public holiday unless a non-metro council has picked another day.
Freeze the live theme from Fri 20 Nov
This applies to a store that's already trading, not a new one going live. After that date, only prices, banners and discount codes change; theme code, apps and checkout stay as tested.
Go or no-go at 3:30–5:00pm AEDT
That 90-minute overlap is when someone at your end can approve the night's change.
Price edits in the evening
Sale prices and codes go in after trade slows, get a test order, and are ready by morning.
Sale weekend and Christmas
We're on from 3:30pm AEDT on Saturday 28 Nov. Because the theme is frozen from 20 Nov, a Sunday fault is unlikely; if one happens on Sunday 29 Nov, it waits until 3:30pm on Monday 30 Nov. Whether anyone covers 25–28 Dec is agreed in the signed scope.
| Sale moment | 2026 date | Live by (two weeks of real orders first) | Content to us by, 2-week job | Content to us by, 6-week job |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Melbourne Cup Day (Victorian public holiday) | Tue 3 Nov | Tue 20 Oct | Passed (was Tue 6 Oct); sale banners and price edits only | Passed |
| Black Friday | Fri 27 Nov | Fri 13 Nov | Fri 30 Oct | Passed (was Fri 2 Oct) |
| Cyber Monday | Mon 30 Nov | Fri 13 Nov, as for Black Friday | Fri 30 Oct | Passed |
| Christmas gift orders | Fri 25 Dec | About Tue 1 Dec (check your carrier's published cut-off) | Tue 17 Nov | Tue 20 Oct |
| Boxing Day and the extra public holiday | Sat 26 Dec; Mon 28 Dec | Fri 11 Dec | Fri 20 Nov (the maths says 27 Nov, which is Black Friday) | Not advised: launch in January |
Message us on WhatsApp with the store URL and the sale you're aiming at, and the scope comes back with a last-content date on it.

Shopify set-ups Melbourne sellers ask for: fashion, coffee, wine, homewares and wholesale
Melbourne agency pages name these industries; here is what each needs in the build.
Fashion and activewear labels
Australians spent A$11.6bn online on fashion and apparel in 2025, and returns come with it. Scope the size and colour matrix first: one style in six sizes and four colours is 24 variants, each with stock and images. Choose exchanges, refunds or both, then the returns flow; a lookbook sits on top. A big catalogue or a custom size guide moves the figure toward the top of the band, and a product export plus your returns policy is the best first thing to send.
Coffee roasters
Expect a subscription app with skip and pause, grind and weight variants (whole bean, espresso or filter; 250g or 1kg), and a wholesale price list for cafés. Extra subscription rules and a login-only trade list add work. Café counter too? The till side is on our restaurant POS page. Your blends, bag sizes and subscription terms let us scope it in one pass.
Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula wine
Cellar doors online usually want an age confirmation step, a wine club with release shipments and cellar-door pickup. Mixed-dozen rules and club tiers are where the cost climbs. Licence questions go to Liquor Control Victoria, not us; what the store must display is in the Victorian alcohol section of our ecommerce page. Club rules and pickup hours shape most of the quote.
Homewares and furniture
Bulky goods break flat-rate shipping. Scope weight-based rates, an oversized-item rate and any pickup-only warehouse items. Dozens of per-product freight rules, or a carrier that needs its own app, take longer to set up and test. Weights, dimensions, freight quotes and the postcodes you won't deliver to are what we price from.
Dandenong South and Campbellfield wholesalers
Trade buyers expect a catalogue behind a login, per-customer price lists, minimum order quantities and account approval. Much of this runs below Plus with apps and customer tags; plan-level B2B is covered under plans in AUD. Each extra price list, and any 3PL or ERP sync, adds scope; a trade price sheet and one real order show us the shape of it.

Where Melbourne’s retailers are, and the Shopify setting worth scoping in each
Greater Melbourne had about 38,400 retail trade businesses at 30 June 2025, down from 38,939 a year earlier, and about 20,200 of them employed nobody. These are the ABS areas with the most retailers, each with a store setting a seller there might scope. Suburbs are examples, not clients.
| Area (ABS SA2) | Retailers | Shopify setting worth scoping |
|---|---|---|
| Melbourne CBD–West and CBD–East | 553 / 418 | A pickup location, with collection hours shown at checkout |
| Dandenong–South | 449 | Several stock locations and trade pricing |
| Preston–East | 431 | Local delivery priced by postcode |
| Campbellfield–Coolaroo | 371 | A B2B catalogue and stock sync with a 3PL |
| Springvale | 362 | Pickup plus a clean product import |
| Oakleigh–Huntingdale | 345 | Click-and-collect for nearby shoppers |
| Box Hill | 323 | Click-and-collect with stock shown per location |
| Moorabbin–Heatherton | 322 | Warehouse stock and weight-based freight |
| Richmond (South)–Cremorne | 312 | Direct-to-customer on a theme, with a returns flow |
| South Melbourne | 284 | Delivery zones for inner suburbs |
Strips such as Chapel Street, Smith Street and Brunswick Street suit a pickup location with clear collection times. With over half of Melbourne's retailers employing no staff, the usual brief is a store the owner can run between customers. Where online parcels go is mapped on our Melbourne ecommerce page.

Who is the best Shopify developer in Melbourne? Five questions that sort a shortlist
No honest single answer exists, and directories won't supply one: Clutch placements can be sponsored, and map-pack stars mix Shopify jobs with other web work. Whether you're weighing an agency, a consultant or a freelancer, these five questions sort a Melbourne shortlist; a longer list for any developer, us included, is on the national page.
1. Read the reviews that mention Shopify
A 4.9 or 5.0 may come from brochure sites or SEO. Weigh only the reviews describing Shopify builds, migrations or checkout work, and ask to see Shopify stores they built.
2. Ask ‘ex or inc GST?’
The Hope Factory's build tiers are ex GST but its hour blocks are inc GST, and Insider Media states no basis. Level every quote before comparing.
3. Ask who places the test orders
Someone must buy through the real checkout with each payment method and shipping rule before launch; get a name and a date. Afterpay, Zip and Australia Post set-up is under Australian apps and GST, and purchase tracking needs a check since Shopify's August checkout change.
4. Ask about Cup week and Black Friday week
Which day do they freeze theme changes, and who answers if checkout fails on sale Saturday? No named freeze date usually means no plan.
5. Check the claimed Partner tier yourself
Look up any claimed Premier or Plus tier in Shopify's Partner Directory. A tier tells you about Shopify revenue referred, not who tests your checkout.
After the build: Shopify website design, SEO for an Australian store, Google Shopping ads, staying on WooCommerce and order and stock automation. Everything else we build for the city is on our Melbourne page.
The same price comparison for other cities: Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Gold Coast.
