Quick answer

How much do app developers on the Gold Coast charge?

As of 6 Oct 2026, Dr App (Varsity Lakes) is the only Gold Coast app developer on Google's first page that publishes prices: $3,300, $11,000 and $27,500 including GST, or $3,000–$25,000 with the GST stripped out. Of the other seven on page one, five quote on request, Airtasker leaves the budget to whoever posts the task, and Appello's page wouldn't open for us. Codingclave builds iPhone and Android apps for A$6,900–A$43,000 in 4–12 weeks, fixed in writing, with no GST on our invoice. On top of any build, Apple charges US$99 a year for a developer account and Google US$25 once.

  • Published Gold Coast range: $3,000–$25,000 ex GST, from one provider
  • Divide an inc-GST quote by 1.1 before comparing it
  • Our invoice carries no GST: the A$6,900 floor is the invoice total
  • Per-feature hours and three-year running costs live on our national app cost page

What Gold Coast app developers publish (checked 6 Oct 2026)

On 6 October 2026 we searched 'app developers gold coast' in Google Australia, opened every provider on page one and wrote down the address, any build price, any timeline and the review signal Google displayed. Prices appear as printed; the ex-GST column divides inclusive figures by 1.1. Appello and Airtasker blocked our page reader, so those two rows rest on Google's listing and Clutch.

Page-one results for 'app developers gold coast', checked 6 Oct 2026 on each provider's own page. Our row comes from our AUD price list.

Google dates Dr App's Gold Coast page 22 October 2020, though its prices were still live on 6 October 2026, and Appifany's footer still carries a 2017 copyright. Dr App also runs the same three packages on its Canberra, Geelong, Hobart and Sunshine Coast pages, so read them as a national price list rather than a Gold Coast rate. A blank cell doesn't make a provider expensive; the number comes after a discovery call.

App scopes for the Gold Coast’s biggest employers

Jobs and Skills Australia counted about 383,200 people employed in the Gold Coast Employment Region in August 2025 (industry profile). Health Care and Social Assistance is the largest employer, at 64,600 after an 18.5% rise in a year, ahead of Construction, Retail Trade, Professional, Scientific and Technical Services, and Accommodation and Food Services. The table places each scope only as lower, middle or upper in our band; gateways, booking systems and other connections are checked against your setup before any price is set.

Mobile app development on the Gold Coast: iOS, Android or Flutter?

People search for an 'iOS app developer', an 'Android app developer' or a 'Flutter developer', yet most Gold Coast businesses need one app that runs on both phone systems. Two separate codebases mean every change is built and tested twice. Founders testing an idea can start smaller still, with an MVP built around the one feature users will pay for.

  • Flutter or React Native for most business apps

We build with Flutter or React Native, so a single codebase becomes an iPhone app and an Android app on one budget. Which of the two suits you depends on your integrations and who maintains the app later, not on how it looks; Flutter vs React Native sets out the trade-offs.

  • When native code earns its cost

Heavy use of device hardware, augmented reality or a companion smartwatch app can justify separate Swift and Kotlin builds. That kind of project sits outside our usual cross-platform work, and we'd tell you so in the first conversation rather than quote it. Native vs hybrid apps covers the decision.

  • Design before code

Many searches for 'app designers gold coast' are after the screens rather than the programming. Interface and user-experience design is part of every app build we price, and our UI/UX design page explains that work on its own.

Some problems don't need a store app at all. A web portal, or a chatbot in place of an app, can cost less. Describe the problem on WhatsApp and we'll tell you which route we'd take and why.

Code, store accounts, payment and support: what to get in writing

The Gold Coast pages we read cover ownership unevenly. Dr App says your app is your intellectual property but not whose name the store accounts go in; ISH and Smarter Apps both say the IP or source code is yours (Smarter Apps 'on completion and final payment'), yet none of those pages says who registers the Apple and Google accounts. Look for these four lines in any quote, ours included.

  • Code and IP

Ask for the code, designs and IP to be assigned to your business in writing, with access to the repository while the build runs. With us, that assignment wording is in the agreement you read before signing. The full handover checklist is on our national app page.

  • Store accounts in your name

Your business enrols in the Apple Developer Program (US$99 a year; an organisation account needs a D-U-N-S Number) and opens a Google Play Console account (US$25 once), then invites us in as a user. If you sell inside the app, Apple's Small Business Program and Google each take 15% for developers earning under US$1 million a year.

  • Payment terms

How you pay, and how payments are split across milestones, is set out in the agreement before anything is due. That agreement is with Codingclave Development LLP in India. Whoever you hire, tie each payment to a build you can install and keep repository access from the first week.

  • Support after launch

Hosting, updates and fixes when new iOS and Android versions arrive are covered by monthly support at A$80–A$240 a month. Whether a bug-fix period comes with the build is agreed before signing, never assumed.

Once the app has users, its value rests on how many stay and pay, not on the install count. The FAQ works through a 100,000-install example.

Build reviews on Queensland time, and time zones inside your app

Queensland keeps AEST all year (australia.com), so our Monday-to-Saturday hours read 2:30pm–11:30pm on Gold Coast clocks in every month. Feedback sent before 5pm is worked on through your evening, and a fresh test build on TestFlight or a Google Play testing track can be ready to install when you start the next day. In Tweed Heads, on NSW daylight saving from 4 October 2026 to 4 April 2027, our hours read 3:30pm–12:30am and the shared afternoon shrinks to 1.5 hours; the Gold Coast page has the rest of the clock.

The part only an app has to get right. A booking or class app serving customers in both Coolangatta and Tweed Heads must store every appointment with its time zone attached. Saved as bare clock time on a Queensland server, a Tweed customer's 9am reminder can arrive at 10am on their phone all summer. We build that in from the first screen.

Putting a Gold Coast app quote on an ex-GST footing

GST is 10% (ATO), so one-eleventh of any GST-inclusive price is tax: divide by 1.1 to get the ex-GST figure. Dr App prints 'inc. GST' beside every package. A quote that doesn't say whether GST is included is worth querying before you compare it with anything.

  • Our side of the comparison

Our A$6,900–A$43,000 includes no GST: we're an India-based supplier not registered for Australian GST, so nothing is added for it on our invoice. If your business is GST-registered, ask your accountant whether the reverse-charge rules apply to imported services.

  • If you aren’t registered for GST

The inclusive figure is what you pay, because there's no credit to claim back. On that basis Dr App's Gold package costs you $11,000, while the price in our written quote is the whole invoice amount.

  • Where a cheaper package wins

If five screens, a login and email messages cover what you need, Dr App's Silver at $3,000 ex GST is the cheaper buy. For a basic job-management app, its Gold tier ($10,000 ex GST, about three months, with a Xero connection) may cost the same as us or less; our builds run 4–12 weeks. Native and smartwatch apps like its Platinum tier sit outside our usual cross-platform work. Whichever you choose, get the screen count and the ownership terms on paper. Dr App's $80 an hour for later changes doesn't state a GST basis; we price each change in writing first, or cover it under monthly support.

Put the same three questions to every developer:

  1. How many screens and user types does this price cover?
  2. Who hosts the back end, and what does that cost each month?
  3. Whose name goes on the Apple and Google developer accounts?

Have a project in mind?

Is your ‘Gold Coast’ app developer on the Gold Coast? A five-minute check

The address column tells its own story: two page-one providers list Varsity Lakes, one Brisbane's CBD, one Lalor in Melbourne's north, one a Sydney head office (per Clutch), and two show no street address. None of that makes them weak developers, but you should know who you're signing with. Five quick checks follow. Run them on us as well; our answers come after.

  • 1. Search the ABN

Put the business name into ABN Lookup and note the state it's registered in and how long the ABN has been active.

  • 2. Match the street address

Find it on Google Maps, check it looks like a working office, and confirm the same address will appear on your contract.

  • 3. Find their apps in the stores

Pick two apps from the portfolio and look them up on the App Store and Google Play. Each listing shows the developer's name and when the app was last updated.

  • 4. Weigh review volume

Thirty reviews averaging 4.8 say more than five averaging 5.0, and reviews spread across several years read differently from a cluster in one month.

  • 5. Ask who opens the store accounts

Your business should own the Apple Developer and Google Play accounts and invite the developer in as a user, never the other way round.

Our answers. Codingclave Development LLP was set up in 2017 by Ashish Sharma, who still leads delivery, and works from Lucknow, India. There's no ABN, no Australian entity and no Gold Coast office, so your agreement is with the LLP. You can check ★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews), Top Rated on Upwork and 200+ projects since 2017. The portfolio shows past work; if installable apps matter to you, ask for store links before you sign and judge what we send. For workshops in the same room, a Varsity Lakes agency is the better choice.

Health, fitness and wellness apps: where the TGA line sits

Clinics and smaller fitness or wellness studios both build apps that can drift close to a line drawn by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). What an app says and does decides which side it falls on.

  • Excluded since 25 February 2021

Consumer health and wellness software that doesn't address a serious condition or suggest a specific treatment sits outside medical-device regulation, under the TGA's changes for software-based medical devices. Habit trackers, meditation timers, class booking and general fitness plans usually fall here. Keep the in-app wording and the store listing to that general purpose.

  • May be a regulated medical device

Software that diagnoses, monitors a serious condition or recommends a specific treatment can still be regulated. A symptom checker that names a likely illness, or an app telling someone to change a medicine dose, are typical examples. One such feature can carry an otherwise simple wellness app across the line.

  • What we do during scoping

We flag features close to the line while the scope is written, so you can get regulatory advice before design starts. We aren't regulatory advisers and don't decide how an app is classified.

Health data also raises privacy questions. The Privacy Act and APP 8 (sending personal information overseas) are covered on our national app development page, so they aren't repeated here.

How it works

From feature list to the App Store: five steps for a Gold Coast app

Start on WhatsApp
  1. Send the feature list on WhatsApp

List what the app must do, or record a voice note between jobs. Screenshots of apps your customers already use show us what they'll expect.

  2. Written scope and one AUD figure

Screens, user roles, milestones and exclusions are set out on paper with a single AUD price before any payment.

  3. A prototype tested by the people who'll use it

Before code is written, hand the clickable prototype to whoever will live with it: front-desk staff at a clinic, an apprentice on site, a few regulars at the café. Their stumbles cost far less to fix at this stage.

  4. Milestones with test links

Every milestone ends with a TestFlight or Google Play test link, so progress is judged by using the app on your own phone.

  5. Store submission and handover

We submit through your Apple and Google accounts, hand over the code and access, and stay on for monthly support if you want it.

Ask Ashish directly

Ask on WhatsApp

How much does it cost to hire an app developer on the Gold Coast?

Published Gold Coast prices run from $3,300 to $27,500 including GST ($3,000 to $25,000 without it), and only one page-one developer prints them: Dr App in Varsity Lakes. The others quote after a conversation, and Airtasker budgets are whatever the poster offers. Codingclave builds iPhone and Android apps for A$6,900–A$43,000 over 4–12 weeks, fixed in writing. Give every developer the same written feature list, or the quotes can't be compared.

Do Gold Coast app developers include GST in their quotes?

Some do and some don't say. Dr App's packages include GST, so its $11,000 Gold package is $10,000 before tax. Codingclave's prices include no GST: we're an India-based supplier not registered for Australian GST, so none is added to the invoice. If your business is GST-registered, ask your accountant whether reverse charge applies to imported services. For any quote that doesn't state its basis, ask, then divide inclusive figures by 1.1 to compare.

What if another Gold Coast developer quotes less than A$6,900?

Take it if the scope fits. Five screens, a login and email messages make a small app, and a cheaper package can be the right buy. Our A$6,900 floor covers an iPhone and Android app from one codebase, with design, a back end and submission to both stores. Send both feature lists side by side and we'll show where the quotes differ, line by line, including who hosts the back end and who owns the store accounts.

Which is best for mobile app development: Flutter, React Native or native?

For most small-business apps a cross-platform framework is the practical choice: Flutter or React Native turns one codebase into iPhone and Android apps, so each change is built and tested once. Flutter draws its own interface and suits design-heavy apps; React Native fits teams already working in JavaScript. Separate native builds in Swift and Kotlin earn their extra cost when an app leans hard on device hardware, augmented reality or a smartwatch companion.

Who owns the app code and the App Store account?

Whoever the contract and the account registrations say. Your business should enrol in the Apple Developer Program (US$99 a year) and open the Google Play Console account (US$25 once), then add the developer as a user, so the app is published under your name. Code and design ownership should be assigned to your business in writing, with repository access during the build. Ask for both before you sign, whoever you hire.

What's the difference between an app builder, an Airtasker freelancer and an app developer?

An app builder is a no-code tool: you assemble screens from templates, pay a monthly platform fee, and the app usually can't leave that platform. An Airtasker freelancer suits small, defined jobs such as a bug fix or one new screen, with the budget set by the poster. An app developer or team writes the code, handles testing and store submission, and hands the code over. Prototypes suit builders; custom logic, integrations and long-term control call for a developer.

Does a Gold Coast fitness or wellness app need TGA approval?

Usually not, if it stays with general wellness. Since 25 February 2021 the TGA has excluded consumer health and wellness software that doesn't address serious conditions or suggest specific treatment, which takes in most class-booking, habit and workout apps. Once an app diagnoses, monitors a serious condition or recommends a particular treatment, it may be a regulated medical device. Get regulatory advice before building anything near that line.

How much is an app with 100,000 users worth?

Less than the number suggests if most of those users were visitors. A theme-park, tour or holiday app collects installs from people who leave the city within a week, so 100,000 installs may hold only a few thousand who open it each month. A Burleigh Heads studio app with 2,000 members paying every month can be worth more. Value the retained, paying base: monthly active users, the revenue each brings in, and how many are still there a year on. A business valuer sets the actual figure; the build cost doesn't.
