Overview

Of the Melbourne providers Google showed first on 6 October 2026, only SGD and WP Creative print WordPress prices, and their builds start at $5,000 and $15,000+. We cost less because the work is done remotely from Lucknow, India, with no Melbourne office to fund, and founder Ashish Sharma leads it. We're online Monday to Saturday, 3:30pm–12:30am AEDT, so video calls fit after your workday.

Quick answer

How much does it cost to hire a WordPress developer in Melbourne?

Going by WP Creative's Melbourne page, freelancers charge about $50–$150 an hour and general agencies $200–$300+. Fixed builds start at $5k with SGD and $15k+ with WP Creative, which allows 8–12 weeks from discovery to launch. Monthly care runs from $180 at SGD (one support hour) to $2,500 at WP Creative (20 development hours). A salaried developer costs roughly A$89,600 a year: SEEK's A$80,000 Melbourne median plus 12% super. Codingclave's fixed price: a WordPress build quoted inside A$900–A$4,300, usually live within a fortnight of your content arriving, with optional care from A$80 to A$240 monthly. Founder-led since 2017, with 200+ projects and ★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews).

What Melbourne WordPress developers and agencies charge: every published price, checked 6 Oct 2026

On 6 October 2026 we checked the Melbourne WordPress providers Google shows first, opened any price page each one links to, and recorded every figure as printed. Six of the eight publish none. Only SGD's assessment page says how GST is treated, so ask whether a quote includes GST before comparing it with ours.

Short on time? Send your site on WhatsApp and get a figure for your own job instead.

  • What WP Creative’s retainer hours work out to

The Care plan's $2,500 buys 20 development hours, close to $125 each, and Scale and Enterprise keep that ratio at 40 and 80 hours. Good value if your site really soaks up 20 hours a month; a sole trader needing plugin updates and a few text edits would pay for far more time than the work takes.

  • Why our figure is lower, and what you give up

Three reasons. There's no Melbourne office, sales team or account manager to fund. Smaller sites start from a proven theme rather than a blank-page design, and the quote says which you're getting. You pay for a defined scope, not retainer hours you may not use. What you give up: onsite visits, same-morning fixes and an Australian ABN on the invoice. If any of those matters, the next section says when a Melbourne firm is the better hire.

WordPress agency, freelancer or remote team in Melbourne: matching the job

The right provider depends on the job, and sometimes it isn't us. Two questions settle most of it: is this a build, a shop or maintenance, and would an agency or a freelancer suit you better? Find your job in the left column. Every figure comes from the provider's own page on 6 October 2026.

  • Pay for a Melbourne agency when…

Pay it when a broken checkout at 9am costs more than a retainer, since a plan like WP Creative's answers priority faults within an hour from 8am to 8pm. Pay it when your board or insurer wants that response time in a contract, or if you need people in the room or a supplier holding an ABN. Codingclave has no Melbourne office and no ABN, so in each of those cases a Melbourne firm is the straight recommendation.

  • Designer, developer or both?

A designer shapes how the site looks: layout, type, colour, imagery and the phone view. A developer makes it run: themes, plugins, WooCommerce, forms that send, page speed. Site works but looks dated? Hire a designer. Looks fine but breaks after updates or loads slowly? Hire a developer. A new build needs both, which on a small site is usually one team, and that's how our WordPress band is priced.

WordPress web design for one-person Melbourne businesses (about 68% employ no one)

ABS business counts for June 2025, summed across Greater Melbourne's SA2 areas, show about 403,700 of roughly 595,600 actively trading businesses had no employees. Add the 134,100 with one to four staff and about 90% of the city's businesses employ fewer than five people. (SA2 sums are approximate because the ABS perturbs small counts.) For most of them, a $5,000 or $15,000 floor is hard to justify.

  • What to build

Four to six pages: home, services, about, contact, and one or two for your strongest service or recent jobs. A quote or booking form that pings your phone. Fast pages on mobile data, with tap-to-call on each. Your business name, address and number written exactly as they appear on your Google Business Profile, with the profile linked from the site, so people who find you on Maps see matching details.

  • What you can skip

Custom plugins, when forms, SEO and backup plugins cover most small sites. A heavy page builder, if the block editor will do for your own text edits. Sliders, animated intros and a blog nobody will keep up: each adds build time and upkeep for little return.

  • How far A$900 to A$4,300 stretches

The lower part of the band covers a ready-made theme set up with your words and photos across a handful of pages. The figure climbs with bespoke design work, extra pages, bookings or payments wired in, and content moved across from an old site. No copy yet? Rough notes or a voice note are a fine start; whether page writing is included, and how many rounds of changes each stage gets, is spelled out in your written quote. Other build types are compared in our full Melbourne website price guide.

Is WordPress still a safe bet in 2026, and who in Melbourne is hiring for it?

Is WordPress outdated, and does anyone still hire for it?

  • WordPress 7.1 and its market share

WordPress 7.1, named Mary Lou, came out on 19 August 2026, followed by 7.1.1 on 17 September, 7.1.2 on 22 September and 7.1.3, a security release, on 6 October 2026. In early October 2026 W3Techs counted WordPress on 40.1% of all websites and 58.6% of sites with a known CMS, with version 7 on nearly two-thirds of WordPress sites. A quick test for any developer: ask which metric replaced FID in March 2024 (it's INP). One Melbourne provider's page still lists FID. For PHP 8.2, security and Core Web Vitals in more depth, see our national WordPress page.

  • Hiring one in-house in Melbourne

SEEK's salary data puts the Melbourne web developer median at A$80,000, typically A$75,000–A$90,000 (Sydney's median is A$85,000). With the 12% super guarantee that's about A$89,600 a year before recruitment fees, leave cover and equipment. The exact title is scarce: as shown on 6 October 2026, SEEK had just 3 WordPress-titled roles across Melbourne, because the work is folded into web developer and agency jobs. A salaried hire only pays off when there's a week of changes every week.

WordPress support and maintenance on Melbourne time: evenings, Saturdays and launch dates

We work Monday to Saturday, 3:30pm–12:30am AEDT, until clocks go back on Sunday 4 April 2027. That overlaps a 9–5 day by 1.5 hours (Melbourne time zone details). After the change it's 2:30pm–11:30pm AEST, a 2.5-hour overlap. A usual cycle: brief or fault in the morning, a video call in your evening, and written progress on the WhatsApp thread by breakfast. Go-lives happen after you close, Saturdays keep the same hours, and same-morning fixes aren't offered.

Keeping control when your developer is overseas: your logins, staged payments and VSBC mediation

The Victorian Small Business Commission mediates most commercial disputes for $300 inc GST per party for a half day, or $600 for a full day, with the Victorian Government subsidising the rest. Signed terms of settlement are legally enforceable, and a cancellation fee of $900 (half day) or $1,350 (full day) may apply. VSBC needs at least one party to be in Victoria, so an overseas supplier, Codingclave included, may not take part, and enforcing a settlement abroad is harder. With us, the protection has to be built into how the job is set up.

  • Held in your business name from day one

The WordPress admin login, the hosting account and the .com.au domain registration sit in your business name before the build starts, and we work through a separate admin account you can switch off. Premium plugin and theme licences are bought in your name, so updates continue if you switch developers. Google Analytics, Search Console and your Business Profile stay on your Google account, with us added as a user. At handover the code and theme files are yours, as set out in the written scope.

  • Paying by approved milestones

The work is split into stages, such as design sign-off, staging build and go-live, and payments are tied to stages you review on the staging link. The stages and the payment split are confirmed in writing for your business before you sign.

  • WordPress hosting near Melbourne

AWS runs an Asia Pacific (Melbourne) region, ap-southeast-4, with three Availability Zones. It's opt-in, so an account has to switch it on (AWS region list). Your quote names the region your site will use, rather than assuming one. Our national page has the full hosting checklist and the account-ownership table.

Who you'd be dealing with. Not in Melbourne: remote from Lucknow, India. Ashish Sharma founded Codingclave in 2017 and still leads delivery, so he's on the WhatsApp thread for your job, with video calls when you want a face. The record: 200+ projects since 2017, ★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews) (read them), Top Rated on Upwork, and past work you can open. Nobody, us included, can guarantee a speed score or a ranking.

How it works

From a WhatsApp message to a live Melbourne site

Start on WhatsApp
  1. Send the URL or brief on WhatsApp

A link, a screenshot or a voice note is enough. Say what's wrong or what you want built, and the date it matters by. No WhatsApp? Use the form and we'll reply by email.

  2. Site check, then a written fixed AUD quote

We go through the site or brief and reply with one figure, the stages, and anything excluded.

  3. Staging build, reviewed on evening video calls

Work happens on a private copy while customers use the live site; review it on an evening call or in your own time.

  4. Go-live after close of trade

We launch in the evening, away from the dates in the calendar above, then test every form and the checkout. Once real visitors arrive, we check the site's speed in Google's own data and fix anything that slips.

  5. Handover, then optional care

You get a walkthrough of editing pages and products, with any staff training as listed in your written quote, and the option of care at A$80–A$240 a month.

Ask Ashish directly

Ask on WhatsApp

How much does a WordPress website cost to build in Melbourne in 2026?

Two Melbourne agencies print figures. SGD's pricing guide puts brochure sites at $5k–$20k, and WP Creative starts custom builds at $15,000; neither says whether GST is included. Codingclave quotes one fixed price between A$900 and A$4,300 for a WordPress site. A theme-based site of a few pages sits near the bottom; bespoke design, bookings, payments and migrated content push it higher.

How much is WordPress maintenance a month in Melbourne?

SGD charges $180, $395 or $450 a month for one, two or four support hours, with hosting, daily backups and updates included and no lock-in. WP Creative's Care Plan starts at $2,500 a month for 20 development hours plus a one-hour priority response from 8am to 8pm. Codingclave's care runs A$80–A$240 a month for hosting, backups, uptime monitoring and support, with your plan's support time written into the quote.

How long does it take to build a WordPress website in Melbourne?

WP Creative says most of its Melbourne builds take 8–12 weeks from discovery to launch, and SGD's pages give no timeline in weeks. With Codingclave a WordPress site is usually live 1–2 weeks after your text and photos arrive, and a WooCommerce store takes 2–6 weeks depending on product numbers, shipping zones and click-and-collect rules. Gathering words and images early is the quickest way to bring launch forward.

Can someone fix my broken or hacked WordPress site in Melbourne today?

It depends on the hour. Before mid-afternoon, the fastest options are a Melbourne freelancer offering phone or onsite repair, or an agency plan with an emergency SLA, such as WP Creative's one-hour P1 response between 8am and 8pm. We come online at 3:30pm AEDT, Monday to Saturday, so a fault reported in the morning can be picked up from then on a working day; any response-time commitment goes into your written quote. Keep your hosting login handy, don't delete files, and WhatsApp the URL so it's waiting when we log on.

Do you build WooCommerce stores for Melbourne retailers?

Yes. A WooCommerce store with us is one fixed figure inside A$2,400–A$19,500 and takes 2–6 weeks, depending on product and variant counts, shipping zones and click-and-collect rules. The store runs on your own merchant account through a payment gateway named in the quote. If you're still choosing a platform, our Melbourne e-commerce and Shopify developer pages weigh WooCommerce against Shopify.

Can you train my staff to update our Melbourne WordPress site?

Yes, remotely. Training runs over a video call in your afternoon or evening, on your own site rather than a demo, covering editing pages, swapping images, adding products and posts, and what to leave alone. You can record the session for staff who join later. We don't run in-person classes or public WordPress courses in Melbourne. What training is included with a build is listed in your written quote.

Is WordPress outdated in 2026, and are WordPress developers still wanted in Melbourne?

WordPress 7.1 shipped on 19 August 2026, with security updates up to 7.1.3 on 6 October 2026, and W3Techs counts WordPress on 40.1% of all websites. Dedicated jobs are rare: SEEK showed only 3 WordPress-titled roles across Melbourne on 6 October 2026, because the work usually sits inside web developer and agency positions, where SEEK's Melbourne median is A$80,000. Job seekers will find live listings on SEEK.

Are you in Melbourne, and why do you cost less than Melbourne WordPress agencies?

No. Codingclave works remotely from Lucknow, India, over WhatsApp, email and video calls, and has no office, staff or ABN in Australia. That explains most of the price gap, along with theme-based starts for small sites and paying for a defined scope instead of retainer hours. The trade-off: no onsite visits, no same-morning fixes and no Australian ABN on the invoice. Calls fall in your afternoon or evening, Monday to Saturday.
