Overview

Your screens are drawn in Figma, tapped through on your customers' phones in the test rounds set in your scope, then built by the same team, so design and code share one fixed AUD price. A website, designed and built, starts at A$1,200 (excl. GST), and your figure is in writing before you sign. Codingclave is founder-led and works with Melbourne businesses remotely from Lucknow, India; we have no Melbourne office.

Quick answer

What does a UI/UX design agency in Melbourne charge in 2026?

Superkind in Richmond is the one Melbourne UX studio we found that prices its work on its own site: a UX audit from $1,000 and a UX sprint from $6,000, both design only, with the build quoted separately by partner developers. Clutch's Melbourne list runs from under $25 to $200–$300 an hour, with minimum projects from $1,000+ to $50,000+, and Clutch doesn't label the currency. With Codingclave, design is not a separate invoice: it sits inside one fixed AUD build price, and you tap through the screens before anything is coded.

  • Website, designed and built: A$1,200–A$6,900
  • Online store: A$2,400–A$19,500
  • iPhone and Android app: A$6,900–A$43,000
  • Portal or SaaS: A$9,800–A$98,000
  • Where you land in a band: unique screens, languages, integrations

What a UX design agency in Melbourne charges: Richmond, Hawthorn, South Yarra and the CBD compared

Prices checked 6–7 October 2026. The Melbourne agency pages ranking for this search talk about research, personas and case studies, and almost never about cost: Liquorice on Bourke Street and TAG in Balaclava publish no price. Superkind, a founder-led studio on Bridge Road in Richmond, is the exception.

Directories add hourly bands and minimums, not project costs, and they don't always agree: Luminary shows a $50,000+ minimum on Clutch and $25,000+ on Digital Agency Network. Treat a directory minimum as a shortlist filter. Melbourne app and general website pricing is on our Melbourne page.

Read down the fourth column. The studio prices published in Melbourne buy design alone, and an hourly band says nothing about the build, so the build becomes a second quote, often from a second firm. UntilNow's national spread comes from a guide in which the publisher ranks itself first. In our row, screens and code are priced together.

UI/UX design Melbourne rates: turning an hourly band into a budget

Two common searches are UI/UX designer cost per hour in Melbourne and price per page in Melbourne. Clutch answers the first with bands; no Melbourne studio we found answers the second. The sums below use 60 design hours, a round example figure rather than a benchmark: ask any studio for its estimate on your screen count and multiply.

Spread over ten templates, those hours cost $300–$594 a template at $50–$99, $900–$1,194 at $150–$199 and $1,200–$1,800 at $200–$300, before any build. Weighing an in-house hire? Our national UI/UX page sets salary against project cost.

Worked example: 60 design hours at Clutch's Melbourne bands (an example, not a quote). Clutch rates carry no currency label

Why a sub-$25 'Melbourne' listing deserves a second look. One firm on that list shows under $25 an hour and 250–999 staff, which may point to designers working outside Australia. That can work well, provided you know. Check any shortlisted firm on ABN Lookup and its Google Business Profile, and ask where your designers will sit.

Codingclave works from Lucknow, India, with no ABN or office in Australia; your contract is with Codingclave Development LLP, under a written scope that fixes the AUD figure, payment stages and file ownership. Our record: ★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews), 200+ projects since 2017 and Top Rated on Upwork (reviews, past work).

Designed and built by one team: one quote instead of two

Superkind says it brings in trusted partners when a project needs development, and TAG's list of UX specialties ends with developer handoff. That suits teams with their own developers. For everyone else it means two suppliers, two quotes and a gap where a screen that looked right in Figma is rebuilt by someone who missed the reviews. We design and build in one scope, with the same people.

  • What ‘design included’ covers

A short UX plan, wireframes for each unique template, the visual UI, a clickable prototype and the test rounds in your scope, with a heuristic review, journey map, information architecture or short design sprint where the project needs one. The scope states how many templates and test rounds your figure buys, and whether moderated customer testing is included or added per round, so you see what 'included' covers before you pay.

  • The platforms your screens are built on

The platform is agreed in the scope and the Figma components are drawn to suit it: WordPress for content-led sites, Shopify or WooCommerce for online stores, Next.js, Node.js or Laravel for portals and SaaS, and Flutter or React Native for iPhone and Android apps. Booking or chat automation sits under AI automation. Search visibility after launch is a separate job (SEO services), and nobody can guarantee rankings or leads.

  • Design only, if you already have developers

If your own team or another agency is building, we deliver Figma files and a handover pack for a fixed AUD figure in the written scope; the pack's contents are on our national UI/UX design page.

  • Redesigning a live site rather than starting again

Before redrawing a live site we check landing pages, exit points and the URLs Google already shows, so pages that bring enquiries keep their URLs and content. A WordPress website redesign sits in the A$900–A$4,300 band; a platform move is priced as a new site.

  • See finished work before you commit

Our past work shows shipped projects. To judge a prototype instead, ask on WhatsApp for a past prototype link and open it on your phone.

UX design for Melbourne customers who read Mandarin, Vietnamese, Greek, Punjabi or Arabic

At the 2021 Census, 37.7% of Greater Melbourne households used a language other than English, against 30.2% across Victoria and 24.8% nationally. For a clinic in Box Hill or a restaurant in Clayton, good customers may read another language first.

No Melbourne agency page we read mentions multilingual design, yet each language changes the layout: switcher position, translated button width, script fonts and whether the page mirrors. Drawing that in Figma costs far less than fixing it after the build.

Five largest non-English languages in Greater Melbourne (Census 2021) and the screen decisions each forces
Language (share of residents)Script or layout effectWhat we decide in Figma
Mandarin (4.3%, 212,680 people)Chinese characters need a fallback font and taller linesFont stack, line height, name and address field order
Vietnamese (2.3%, 115,314)Stacked diacritics clip in tight line heightsLine height, a typeface with full Vietnamese support
Greek (2.1%, 103,658)Longer words; accents drop in all-capsWider buttons and labels, sentence-case headings
Punjabi (2.0%, 97,684)Gurmukhi glyphs with marks above and below the lineFallback font, extra vertical spacing
Arabic (1.8%, 87,689)Right to left, so layouts mirrorMirrored layout, icon direction, form alignment

Victoria's multilingual content guide strongly recommends NAATI-credentialed translators, warns that machine translation accuracy can't be guaranteed, and suggests writing content in the target language rather than only translating English. The same advice is sensible for a private business site. Translation, font licences and any right-to-left build are set-up or custom work agreed in your scope; our part is designing screens the translated version fits.

Tell us the languages your customers use and we'll show which screens change.

The first screen to prototype, by Melbourne industry

Across the 31 councils of metropolitan Melbourne, the ABS counted 588,671 actively trading businesses in June 2025. Construction leads, followed by professional services, transport and real estate. In each industry below, one screen does most of the work of turning a visit into an enquiry, and that's where we start both the prototype and the first test.

The City of Melbourne alone holds 46,783 of these businesses, led by professional services (10,002) and finance and insurance (7,356), so a CBD prototype usually starts with a fees page or consult booking.

Testing with your customers in Carlton, Box Hill or Tarneit without a studio visit

The studios ranking for this search sit between the CBD, Richmond, South Yarra, Hawthorn and Balaclava. Plenty of customers don't: in 2024–25 Tarneit–North grew 18%, among Victoria's fastest rates, and Carlton took the state's biggest net overseas migration gain (1,800 people). Someone in Point Cook, Werribee or Craigieburn won't drive in for a 45-minute session, but will open a link on their phone, so we design phone-first and test remotely, Collingwood to Clayton.

  • Moderated sessions on video

The participant shares their phone screen on a video call while working through the tasks, and we note where they hesitate. Sessions run 6–9pm Melbourne time (12:30–3:30pm in India), when most working participants are free, or in the 3:30–5pm AEDT overlap.

  • Unmoderated recorded tasks

Participants get a link and a short task list and record themselves when it suits: handy for shift workers and anyone camera-shy.

  • Recruiting from your own customer list

Past customers make the best testers, and an invitation from your business beats one from an unknown sender overseas. Consent and how recordings are stored and deleted are agreed in the scope.

  • A System Usability Scale score each round

Each round brings a ranked problem list and a SUS score from the standard ten-question survey; Victoria's UX research guide treats above 68 as above average. Round sizes by product type are on our national UI/UX design page.

Victorian Government content and WCAG 2.2 AA

Victorian Government guidance says all its digital content and websites must, at minimum, meet the current WCAG version at Level AA: WCAG 2.2 since January 2025. That is the benchmark for Melbourne not-for-profits, funded providers and government suppliers. A private business isn't directly bound by it, though the guidance cites the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) and the Disability Discrimination Act, so we draw contrast, focus states and tap targets to 2.2 AA from the first wireframe. Criteria by component are on our national UI/UX design page.

UX design agency Melbourne or a remote team: the cases where staying local wins

Some Melbourne UX projects are better done by a studio across town. Four cases:

  • You need workshops in the room or research on site

Contextual research means watching people where they work: a warehouse floor, a ward, a counter in Collingwood. A studio across town can stand beside your staff; we can't.

  • Your contract needs a Victorian or Australian entity

Some funders, councils and procurement panels require an Australian supplier with an ABN. We can't meet that, and we'd tell you in our first reply.

  • You’re running an enterprise research programme

Several researchers, service designers and rounds of stakeholder workshops suit a larger studio with a research team in the city.

  • You want a design-only partner down the road

With in-house developers and a wish for a designer on call each month, a founder-run studio on retainer, like the Richmond one in the price table, is that model.

  • When we’re the better fit

You want design and build in one AUD scope, customers who read more than one language, or a small-business budget: a WordPress redesign from A$900, a new website from A$1,200 or an app from A$6,900, design included.

Design isn't billed by the hour. It sits inside the fixed build band, and your figure depends on unique screens, languages and integrations; the low end of a band means fewer templates and lighter testing, and the scope lists exactly what yours buys. How it works

Six steps from your current screens to a live, tested design

Start on WhatsApp
  1. Send your link or idea on WhatsApp

Add the languages your customers use. You get back a screen count and one AUD figure.

  2. A written scope

Screens, design and test rounds, ownership of the Figma files and code, payment stages and support, all confirmed in writing for your business before you sign.

  3. Wireframes

Layouts without colour, so the discussion stays on structure. Your team comments directly on the Figma frames.

  4. UI and a clickable prototype

Approved wireframes get type, colour, imagery and links, so you tap through the flow on your own phone.

  5. A remote test with your customers

Sessions with people from your customer list, in the rounds your scope sets, then a short report and a SUS score.

  6. Build, launch and handover

The same team builds what was tested, takes it live and hands over the Figma files and code as set out in your scope.

Questions Australians ask us

Can’t see yours? Ask Ashish directly — you’ll get a straight answer, not a sales script.

Ask Ashish directly

Ask on WhatsApp

How much does a UI/UX design agency in Melbourne cost, and is a remote team cheaper?

Published Melbourne figures start at $1,000 for a design-only audit and $6,000 for a sprint, and Clutch's Melbourne bands run up to $200–$300 an hour, with the build still to pay. A remote team is usually cheaper, but compare like with like: our design sits inside a fixed build price, websites from A$1,200 and apps from A$6,900, excl. GST. You give up a shared working day and face-to-face workshops.

Can we run a design workshop in person in Melbourne?

No. Codingclave Development LLP works from Lucknow, India, with no office, staff or ABN in Australia. Workshops run on video in the 3:30–5pm AEDT overlap, on a shared Figma or FigJam board your team keeps adding to afterwards, and designs arrive as Figma links. If the work truly needs people in the room, the section above on when staying local wins explains when to pick a studio in Melbourne.

How do we pay an overseas design team, and what if we don't like the design?

Prices are quoted in AUD, and the payment stages, payment methods and number of revision rounds are confirmed in writing for your business before you sign. The process itself limits the risk: you approve wireframes first, then tap through a tested prototype before any code is written, so a design that isn't working is caught while changes are cheap. Who owns the Figma files and code is set in the same scope.

Can you test the design with our Melbourne customers if you aren't here?

Yes. Moderated sessions run on video, with the participant sharing their phone screen, usually between 6pm and 9pm Melbourne time, when people with day jobs are home. Unmoderated sessions send a task link people record in their own time. Participants are best invited by you from your own customer list, and each round ends with a ranked problem list and a System Usability Scale score.

How long does UI/UX design take for a Melbourne website or app?

On Melbourne time, first wireframes typically land by Tuesday of week one and a tappable prototype by Friday, as the design week above shows; customer testing adds a few days for booking sessions. Build time then follows the band: a business website 1–3 weeks from scope to launch, an online store 2–6, an app 4–12 and a portal 6–16. The pace between rounds depends on how fast your comments come back.

Can you design a website in Mandarin, Vietnamese, Greek, Punjabi or Arabic?

Yes, at the design stage: fallback fonts for Chinese characters and Gurmukhi, line heights that keep Vietnamese diacritics clear, room for longer Greek labels and a mirrored right-to-left layout for Arabic. Translation itself is set-up or custom work. The Victorian Government's guidance prefers NAATI-credentialed translators to machine translation, and who translates which pages is agreed in your scope.

UX audit, design sprint, design only or a full project: which does my business need?

An audit suits a live site that underperforms; a sprint tests one idea before you commit; a full project designs every screen. Melbourne audit and sprint prices are in the table above. Our full projects carry the prototype and test rounds inside the build price, a stand-alone review is quoted from your screen count, and for your own developers we supply Figma files and a handover pack at a fixed AUD figure.

Which agent is best for UI/UX design?

No single AI agent is best; the useful ones do narrow jobs such as drafting layout options, writing copy variants or turning a sketch into a first screen. None of them knows your customers, watches them struggle at checkout or answers for a form that fails WCAG 2.2. AI tools can speed up drafts; a person decides what ships after testing with real users.
