Overview
The lowest figure on a Canberra developer's own price page is $4,000 + GST, and that buys five pages from Josie Brown but a single page from Shannon Payne. We are a founder-led team working remotely from Lucknow, India, with no Canberra office, and each local figure below links to the page it came from.

Quick answer
How much does a WordPress developer cost in Canberra?
Published Canberra WordPress builds start at $4,000 + GST ($4,400 incl. GST) and care plans at $75–$300 + GST a month (checked 6 Oct 2026); Codingclave quotes A$900–A$4,300 with no GST added, usually live in 1–2 weeks. Higher up, Shannon Payne's Growth package is from $6,500 + GST over 4–6 weeks, Webtree's bands reach $12k with no GST basis given, and Redback's Canberra page opens at $7,500 + GST. Paid by the hour, Clutch's Canberra WordPress firms list bands from under $25 to $150–$199 (Intuji $50–$99, Clean Commit $100–$149, Stavridis Group $150–$199), currency unstated. Our care runs A$80–A$240 a month with hosting covered.
- Cheapest published local build: $4,000 + GST, or A$4,400 on the invoice
- Not GST-registered? Set our A$900 against A$4,400. Claiming credits? Set it against $4,000
- Shannon Payne is the one Canberra developer we checked who prints build times

What Canberra WordPress developers charge to build, from their own price pages
Most Canberra WordPress sites that rank don't show a build price, and Futuretheory and Project Simple publish none at all. Below is every WordPress build price we found on a Canberra provider's own page, with 10% added only where the provider says GST applies, and the build time wherever one is printed.
| Provider (where based) | Package | Published price | GST basis | Same figure incl. GST | Published build time | Care at launch |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shannon Payne (Canberra) | Launch: one page, up to 5 sections | From $4,000 | + GST | $4,400 | 2–3 weeks | 2 months' care |
| Shannon Payne | Growth: about 10 pages | From $6,500 | + GST | $7,150 | 4–6 weeks | 2 months' care |
| Josie Brown Web Design (Canberra) | Basic 5 pages / more complex / e-commerce | From $4,000 / $5,000 / $6,000 | Ex GST | $4,400 / $5,500 / $6,600 | Not published | Not stated |
| Webtree (Farrer, Woden) | Business / Organisation / Advanced | $5k–$7k / $7k–$12k / from $12k | Not stated | If ex GST: $5,500–$7,700 / $7,700–$13,200 / from $13,200 | Not published | 3 months' support (Business and Organisation) |
| Redback Solutions (Wickham NSW, Canberra page) | Theme / custom / advanced | From $7,500 / $25,000 / $35,000 | + GST | $8,250 / $27,500 / $38,500 | "A few months" for custom | Not on that page |
| What's The Damage (cost guide, not a provider) | Standard / custom theme / redesign / migration | $3,000–$10,000 / $8,000–$25,000 / $3,000–$10,000 / $2,000–$8,000 | Not stated | Cannot be calculated | – | – |
| Clutch Canberra WordPress listings | Minimum project size and hourly band | $1,000+ to $25,000+ minimums (Intuji and Clean Commit $10,000+, BA Tech Lab $25,000+); under $25 to $150–$199 an hour | Currency and GST unstated | – | – | – |
| Codingclave (Lucknow, remote) | WordPress website | A$900–A$4,300 | None added (overseas supplier, not GST-registered) | A$900–A$4,300, as quoted | 1–2 weeks | Separate (A$80–A$240 a month) |
| Codingclave | Custom design, including a block theme | A$1,200–A$6,900 | None added | A$1,200–A$6,900, as quoted | 1–3 weeks | Separate |

Already holding a Canberra quote? Send it on WhatsApp and we'll price the same pages and features in AUD. If your organisation is GST-registered, you claim a local developer's GST back, so set our figure against their price before GST; if it isn't, set it against the GST-inclusive one.
Left out: a Bluelinks listicle range with no source or GST basis, and Kinski & Bourke, whose page refused our request on 6 Oct 2026. Clutch minimums are floors, not quotes.

WordPress maintenance and support in Canberra: care plans and their terms side by side
Josie Brown prints how many support hours each tier carries. Shannon Payne makes her own hosting a condition of every plan. Futuretheory prices hosting but not care, and bills it a year at a time. Those terms decide more about a plan than a gap of $10 or $20 a month. Our website maintenance guide lists the routine work a plan should cover.
| Provider | Monthly fee | GST basis | Incl. GST | Support time included | Hosting tied to plan? | E-commerce add-on | Billing and notice |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shannon Payne Standard / Pro | $75 / $300 | + GST (Australian clients) | $82.50 / $330 | Standard: hosting, backups, updates, security and her premium plugins. Pro: 'unlimited*' 30-minute tasks (conditions on her page) | Yes, her hosting is required | – | 30 days' notice |
| Josie Brown, three tiers | $80 / $190 / $290 | Ex GST | $88 / $209 / $319 | None listed / 1 h / 2 h | Not stated | +$30 + GST | Billed monthly in advance, no fixed term stated, 30 days' notice |
| Futuretheory hosting Lite / Plus / Pro | $20 / $35 / $70 | + GST | $22 / $38.50 / $77 ($264 / $462 / $924 a year, paid up front) | Care not priced | Hosting is the product | – | Billed annually |
| Webtree | 3 months' support bundled with the build | Not stated | – | – | – | – | After that, not published |
| What's The Damage range | $100–$500 (hosting, licences and care combined) | Not stated | – | – | – | – | – |
| Codingclave | A$80–A$240 (A$960–A$2,880 a year) | None added (not GST-registered) | A$80–A$240, as quoted | Core, theme and plugin updates, backups, uptime monitoring and small edits; edit minutes set in your scope | No: hosting included, or keep your own host and give us user access | No published add-on; your figure sits in the same band | Set out in your written scope |
A plan that needs the developer's hosting means moving the site once to join and again to leave. Shannon Payne's Standard tier also includes her premium plugins, which stop working for you when the plan ends unless you buy your own licences. Annual billing, as with Futuretheory's hosting, puts a year's fee on one invoice.

Canberra WordPress freelancer, local agency or a remote founder-led team
Google listings put Shannon Payne on Allara St in Canberra City, where Futuretheory also keeps a city office (its head office is in Beard), and Josie Brown in Taylor. Project Simple is in Gungahlin and Webtree in Farrer, near Woden. Clutch lists Clean Commit in Barton, BA Tech Lab in Braddon, and other WordPress firms in Kingston, Watson, Mitchell and Isaacs. For pages about your own district, see the city guide.
| Option | Examples | Lowest published start | Published build time | Who you talk to | When the one person is away | Hosting tie | What you give up |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solo Canberra developer | Shannon Payne, Josie Brown, Webtree | $4,000 + GST | 2–6 weeks (Shannon Payne only) | The person who builds it | Not stated on their sites | Shannon Payne: required | The capacity of one person |
| Canberra agency | Futuretheory, Project Simple, Clean Commit, Intuji | Futuretheory and Project Simple: no build prices; Intuji and Clean Commit: $10,000+ Clutch minimums | Not published | Not stated | Not stated | Futuretheory hosting billed annually | Seeing a price before a call |
| Interstate agency with a Canberra page | Redback (Wickham NSW) | $7,500 + GST | "A few months" for custom | A scoping call first | Not stated | – | No Canberra address; the highest start of the price pages we read |
| Codingclave, remote and founder-led | This page | A$900, no GST added | 1–2 weeks | Founder-led, WhatsApp first, video calls | Named in your written scope | None: we host, or you keep your own host | Face-to-face meetings; a short live-call window (see below) |
A Canberra freelancer makes sense when sitting down with the builder matters and the budget starts near $4,400 with GST. An agency suits a site that several staff depend on and that needs a bigger team behind it. Codingclave fits a buyer who wants a fixed figure and a published timeline below the local floor, one accountable lead, and is happy to review work over video rather than in a Braddon meeting room. A new site won't lift your Google position by itself, and nobody can guarantee rankings; see our SEO services. Before paying any remote team, read hiring a remote WordPress team.

GovCMS, Drupal and WordPress: which Canberra organisations WordPress suits
GovCMS's README describes it as an open-source Drupal distribution developed for Australian government agencies, so an agency on GovCMS isn't shopping for a WordPress developer. WordPress work in Canberra comes from the organisations around government, and the platform's reach makes a site easy to hand from one developer to the next: W3Techs counts WordPress on 40.1% of all websites and 58.6% of those whose CMS it can identify.
Consultancies and contractors selling to agencies
Their site carries the capability and case-study pages buyers read before a shortlist. Capability statements, BuyICT and WCAG 2.2 AA are covered in the city guide; if your buyers expect accessibility, name WCAG 2.2 AA in the scope so it is tested before launch and priced in the quote. Send your current site and capability statement.
Associations, peak bodies and not-for-profits
Member renewals, event registrations, member-only resources and board papers behind a login. Webtree is the one Canberra developer we read that mentions membership, in a line on its Advanced tier from $12k. A membership plugin handles standard rules; once fees, approvals or CRM links outgrow plugins, it becomes custom software. Gift vouchers and member shops sit with Canberra e-commerce. Describe your member site on WhatsApp.
Practices, clinics and professional firms
Booking forms that pass enquiries to the practice's booking system, staff profiles the office manager can update, and enquiry forms that ask only for what is needed, since health and legal enquiries carry private details. Ask where submissions are stored and who receives them.
Trades in Fyshwick and Mitchell
Quote forms, service-area pages and job photos. Trade builds have their own page: websites for tradies.
Where a plugin can't do the job, our WordPress or custom comparison shows which way to go, and a member or booking app that needs to live on phones belongs with Canberra app developers.

Hacked, broken or left behind: getting a Canberra WordPress site working again
If your site redirects to spam, shows a white screen or has stopped sending enquiries, send the URL now. Our working day runs to 12:30am AEDT, Monday to Saturday, so a site that breaks on a Canberra afternoon falls inside our hours rather than after them. You get a written fixed price before anything is touched. The one Canberra figure, What's The Damage's $500–$3,000 for a fix or rescue, gives no GST basis, and Josie Brown offers hacked-site help without a price.
Hacked or redirecting to spam
Signs: a hacked-site warning under your Google listing, visitors sent to pages you never made, or Administrators nobody created. Clean-up removes the injected code and unknown users, then hardening follows: updates, new passwords and keys, fewer admins. Ask your host for a copy of the site as it stands first.
Your freelancer has moved on
Access comes first: hosting, domain and a fresh Administrator login in your name. Then an inventory of theme, plugins and licences, and a full backup before anything changes.
White screen or broken layout after an update
Usually a plugin conflict, often with a page builder or an ageing theme. Roll back on a staging copy, find the clash, then update in a safe order. Turning updates off leaves known holes open.
A contact form that quietly stops delivering
A form can show its thank-you message while the email never arrives. Test yours today: send an enquiry from your phone and check it lands, spam folder included.
Pages that load slowly
Oversized images, sliders, plugins loading on every page and underpowered hosting are the usual causes. A site check names yours.
Message us about a broken or hacked site and a written quote follows the check.

Leaving a Canberra care plan: what to collect before you give notice
None of the Canberra care pages we read says whose account holds the premium plugin licences, and Shannon Payne's Standard plan supplies her own. Collect the items below before a 30-day notice period starts, while the developer still answers quickly.
| Item | Should be in | What to ask before giving notice | Canberra example |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress Administrator account | Your name and email | "Is there an admin login that isn't yours?" | – |
| Hosting account | Your business | "Can the site move, and how long does that take?" | Shannon Payne's plans require her hosting; Futuretheory bills hosting annually |
| Premium plugin and builder licences (ACF Pro, Gravity Forms, Elementor Pro) | Registered to the business | "Whose account holds the licence keys?" | Shannon Payne's Standard plan supplies her premium plugins; ownership not stated elsewhere |
| Theme or child-theme files and custom code | Handed over | "Will I get the files, or only a running site?" | – |
| Full backup (files plus database) | A copy you hold | "When was the last restore test?" | – |
| Notice period | Written down | "30 days, or the end of an annual term?" | 30 days at Shannon Payne and Josie Brown |
When you hire us, we write the Administrator account, premium licences and code handover into the scope under your business's name, so each item on this list is agreed on paper before work begins.

Has your Canberra care plan moved your site past PHP 8.2?
WordPress 7.1.3 is the current release (WordPress.org, checked 7 Oct 2026), but for a care plan the PHP version matters more. PHP.net ends security support for PHP 8.2 on 31 December 2026; 8.3 is supported to the end of 2027 and 8.4 to the end of 2028. WordPress.org's PHP figures put about 23.6% of WordPress sites on 8.2, almost a quarter, and about 37% on 8.1 or older, which no longer get security fixes. No Canberra care page we read mentions version upkeep, so ask your provider:
- Which PHP version is my site on today?
- When will you move it to 8.3 or newer, and is that in my monthly fee?
- Will plugins, forms and the page builder be tested on staging first?
Not sure which version your site runs? Ask on WhatsApp and we'll show you where to look in your hosting panel and what the move involves. Deadline detail and the version table are on the national WordPress page.

WordPress jobs on a Canberra evening, checked by you next morning
We work 10:00–19:00 India time, Monday to Saturday. On Canberra's daylight-saving clock that is 3:30pm–12:30am AEDT, so a 9–5 office shares 1.5 hours with us, and live calls fit between 3:30 and 5pm. From Monday 5 April 2027, with the ACT back on AEST (NRMA), our day runs 2:30pm–11:30pm and the overlap grows to 2.5 hours. Our Saturday lands on a Canberra Saturday afternoon and evening; there is no Sunday session.
| WordPress job | When it runs (AEDT) | Where it's tested | What you check next morning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core and plugin updates | After 5pm | Staging first, then live | The change log and key pages |
| PHP version switch | Evening | A staging copy of your site | Forms, checkout and page-builder layouts |
| Content edits sent in your morning | Our next working session; turnaround agreed in your scope | A staging link | Approve or comment |
| Go-live and DNS cutover | Late evening, after enquiries drop off | Full backup taken first | The live site and a test form submission |
| Hacked-site clean-up | Once access is shared and the quote agreed | A copy of the site as found | A report of what was found |
