The lowest store price we found on Canberra designers' pages on 6 October 2026 was A$6,000 ex GST. You hold the store, the .com.au domain and the payment account in your own name. Ashish Sharma leads the work from Lucknow, India, and there is no office, staff or legal entity anywhere in Australia. Review calls fall in your late afternoon or evening, and each session's changes sit on a staging store for you to check next morning.

What Canberra designers charge for an online store, and how long they take
On 6 October 2026 we read the store pages and price lists of eight designers competing for Canberra store work, plus one estimate site. Three publish a figure that can include a store; none publishes a store build time under six weeks. Brochure-site prices sit on our Canberra web design page.

GST-registered? You claim back the GST a registered Canberra designer adds, so set A$2,400 against A$6,000, and ask your accountant how reverse charge treats an overseas invoice. Not registered for GST? Set it against A$6,600.
Unfinished product data, unshot photos and a pending payment-provider review are what delay launches. For Black Friday trading on 27 November 2026, the day Handmade Canberra's market opens, count back six weeks for a large catalogue (about 16 October) or two for a small one; the launch date itself is set in your written scope.
WhatsApp your SKU count for a scope that names what could hold up your launch.

Year one of a Canberra store: build, platform and upkeep added up
The table adds our build band, Shopify's Australian plan prices (no GST basis stated) and our optional upkeep. Card fees, apps and premium themes move with sales; the national ecommerce cost guide works those through.
| Cost line | Shopify store | WooCommerce or custom store | Where the figure comes from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build | A$2,400–A$19,500 | A$2,400–A$19,500 | Our store band |
| Platform, first 12 months | Basic: A$504 billed yearly (A$42 × 12) or A$672 billed monthly (A$56 × 12). Grow: A$1,368 yearly (A$114 × 12) or A$1,788 monthly (A$149 × 12) | No platform fee; hosting sits in upkeep or with your current host | Shopify AU pricing |
| Optional upkeep | A$960–A$2,880 (A$80–A$240 × 12) | A$960–A$2,880 (A$80–A$240 × 12), hosting included | Our hosting and support band |
| Market-stall POS | POS Pro, A$129 a month per location, only if you need it | A POS plugin licence, named in your quote | Shopify AU pricing; the plugin vendor |
| Sum of the lines above, not a quote | About A$2,904 (A$2,400 + Basic yearly) to about A$24,168 (A$19,500 + Grow monthly + full upkeep) | About A$3,360 (A$2,400 + A$80 × 12 upkeep with hosting) to about A$22,380 (A$19,500 + full upkeep) | Arithmetic on the rows above |
Our totals count only the plan and our upkeep, so add apps, a premium theme and card fees on top. On Basic, Shopify adds a 2% third-party transaction fee when orders are paid through another provider, so pick the payment provider before comparing quotes. White Peak's Canberra Shopify page still calls the A$149 plan "Standard"; Shopify now names it Grow.

Shopify, WooCommerce or custom: which store platform fits a Canberra seller
The best ecommerce platform for a Canberra seller depends on how you already sell. Shopify charges a monthly plan and handles hosting; WooCommerce suits a business already on WordPress; custom Next.js or Laravel pays off when ordering rules outgrow a theme.
| How you sell | Usual fit | Why | Watch for | Read next |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weekend stall plus a web shop | Shopify with Shopify POS | One stock count across stall and site | In-person card rate of 1.85%; POS Pro (A$129 a month per location) only if you need it | Markets section |
| Association already on WordPress | WooCommerce | One site, one member login | Plugin licences that renew every year | WordPress developers in Canberra |
| Cellar door or wine club | Shopify or WooCommerce with an age check | Mixed dozens, club shipments and cellar-door pickup from one catalogue | Licence class (Access Canberra, or NSW over the border) | Wine and trade section |
| Trade wholesaler with account pricing | WooCommerce, or custom Next.js/Laravel | Per-customer price lists, a PO field, invoice payment | B2B rules push the price up the band | Custom software in Canberra |
| Café or hotel selling gift vouchers | Shopify or WooCommerce gift cards | Codes emailed at purchase, redeemed at the till or front desk | How staff mark a code as used | Restaurants and cafés |
| Maker shipping Australia-wide | Shopify | Rates for every state, no server to look after | National shipping settings, not only Canberra zones | Shopify development |

Shopify developer or WooCommerce developer in Canberra: what to ask
Among the Canberra-facing designers we checked, only Redback prices a tier that names Shopify, from $35,000 + GST. The nearest Shopify cost benchmark for Canberra is What's The Damage?'s estimate: $2,000–$8,000 for a template store and $10,000–$30,000 for a custom theme. Our band of A$2,400–A$19,500 covers Shopify, WooCommerce and custom builds alike.
Questions for a Shopify developer
Ask whether the store sits on a Shopify account in your name with the developer as a collaborator, which paid apps it needs at what monthly cost, and whether the design is a licensed theme or custom code you receive. Our Shopify development page answers each.
WooCommerce on a Canberra WordPress site you already run
WooCommerce adds a shop without moving your pages, blog or member area, if your host and theme can carry a store. On an ageing site a rebuild can cost less than patching; see our Canberra WordPress page.

Local delivery and click-and-collect: set Canberra zones by postcode, not by state
Set a local zone to "ACT" and the edges go wrong: 2620 covers Queanbeyan, Googong and Hume alike, 2618 takes in two NSW localities beside Hall, and 2611 four beside Weston Creek. Shopify's local delivery and WooCommerce's shipping zones both accept postcode lists, so build yours from the table, which we checked against Australia Post's postcode search in October 2026.
Click-and-collect from Fyshwick, Mitchell, Belconnen or Braddon
With a shopfront or warehouse, pickup is usually your cheapest option. We add pickup windows that match when someone is there (Saturday mornings at a Mitchell warehouse, say) and a "ready to collect" email once the order is packed.
Lockers, express zones and the 2620 question
Two settings decide most Canberra delivery complaints: whether locker addresses pass checkout, and whether 2620 joins an express zone over 2600–2618 and 2900–2920. Australia Post's eCommerce Report 2026 shows why both matter: 69% of consumers prefer a wide range of delivery options, and 87% expect same- or next-day arrival when an order is time-sensitive.
| Postcodes | What they cover | Zone setting |
|---|---|---|
| 2600–2618 | Inner north and south, Woden, Weston Creek, Molonglo, Belconnen and Hall | Local delivery zone |
| Rural edges of 2611 and 2618 | Bimberi, Brindabella, Cooleman and Uriarra (NSW) share 2611; Springrange and Wallaroo (NSW) share 2618 with Hall | Keep both postcodes local; check freight by hand on farm addresses |
| 2900–2920 | Tuggeranong and Gungahlin suburbs, Mitchell included | Local delivery zone |
| 2620 | Queanbeyan, Karabar, Googong, Royalla, Burra, Carwoola, Sutton and Wamboin (NSW), plus Hume, Tharwa, Oaks Estate and other ACT localities | One postcode, one rate; charging Queanbeyan or Googong differently from Hume needs radius delivery or a suburb-rate app or plugin |
| 2619, 2621, 2582 | Jerrabomberra (2619), Bungendore (2621), Murrumbateman and Yass (2582), all NSW | A region ring between local and standard, if you deliver there |
| Other NSW and interstate | Everything outside the rows above | Standard shipping |

Selling at Old Bus Depot or Handmade Canberra and online from one stock count
Old Bus Depot Markets trades every Sunday, 9:30am–2:30pm, on the Kingston Foreshore, and Handmade Canberra holds quarterly markets at the Exhibition Pavilion, next on 27–29 November 2026. Keep the stall and the web shop on separate stock counts and the last piece can sell twice on a Sunday at Kingston.
Shopify POS at the stall
Shopify POS runs on a phone or tablet against the store's inventory, so a stall sale lowers web stock at once. Shopify lists a 1.85% in-person card rate and POS Pro at A$129 a month per location; we check whether one weekend stall needs Pro, and which card reader fits, before you buy.
WooCommerce with a POS plugin
A POS plugin turns the stall into one more checkout on the same stock. Its vendor bills the licence, and your quote names the plugin and its price.
The night before market day
- Sync stock, hide market-only seconds from the website, and charge the reader.
- Run a small test sale, then refund it.
- After pack-down, check the day's sales came off web stock.
WhatsApp your stall set-up to get both on one count before your next market.

Agency orders, cellar doors, associations and vouchers: Canberra stores with extra rules
Some Canberra stores sell to organisations as often as households: a Fyshwick printer supplying a department, a Mitchell wholesaler restocking cafés. Add more than 35 cellar doors (Canberra District Wine Industry Association) and 1,937 ACT accommodation and food services businesses (ABS, 30 June 2025). Tender registers sit under selling to agencies on our Canberra page.
A PO-number field at checkout
Optional for retail, required for trade accounts, and printed on the order email, invoice and packing slip so accounts teams can match payments.
Order emails set out as tax invoices
Confirmations can carry your ABN, business name and address, a GST line and a "tax invoice" heading. Whether you charge GST is your accountant's call; the store just shows it correctly.
Trade price lists and quote-to-order
Logged-in trade customers see their own price list and minimum quantities, and can turn a cart into a quote request so you adjust freight or bulk pricing first.
Pay on account or by invoice
Approved accounts can pay by invoice beside card checkout. The payment methods we set up for you are settled in your written scope before work starts.
Canberra District wine and cellar doors
ACT liquor sales fall under the Liquor Act 2010, so confirm with Access Canberra which licence class covers online or delivered sales; Murrumbateman cellar doors sit under NSW rules. We build the store side: an age confirmation at checkout and "delivered to an adult" wording on dispatch emails. This isn't legal advice.
Associations adding member pricing or merch
On WordPress, WooCommerce adds member pricing, publications, event add-ons and merch behind the login members already use; without WordPress, a separate Shopify merch store is simpler. Renewals and member portals are custom software work.
Gift vouchers for cafés, restaurants and accommodation
Digital vouchers sell all year, arrive by email with a code, and are redeemed at the counter through either platform's gift cards. See restaurants and cafés and accommodation.
Send your trade-ordering rules on WhatsApp for a scope. Approval chains, multiple buyer logins or a reorder portal belong with custom software in Canberra.

Is an online store still worth building in 2026? Why Canberra stores sell past the ACT
Nationally, yes: Australia Post's eCommerce Report 2026 puts 2025 online spending at a record A$82.6 billion, up 14% and about 24% of all retail, though the average basket dipped to A$96. Canberra's own market is smaller and growing more slowly.
Slower growth, fewer retailers, a small buyer pool
ACT shoppers spent A$1.7 billion online in 2025, up 10% and about 2% of the national total; the report says ACT and NT spending grew the slowest. The ABS counted 1,771 ACT retail businesses at 30 June 2025, 4.8% of all ACT businesses against 5.7% nationally. Incomes are high (a $2,373 median weekly household income at the 2021 Census, against $1,746 for Australia), but the pool is small, so plan national shipping, search-ready product pages and post-launch ads from day one. Our SEO and Google Ads pages cover that work, and nobody can guarantee rankings or sales.
Ecommerce website examples for small Canberra businesses
Store types that suit Canberra sellers: a Braddon maker shipping Australia-wide at a flat rate, a market stall and web shop on one stock count, a cellar-door wine club with age checks, association merch on WordPress, a Fyshwick wholesaler's trade catalogue, and café or hotel gift vouchers. These are types, not named projects; finished builds are on our work page.

What a Canberra store quote should spell out, and how to compare designers on it
To compare Canberra store designers, ours included, ask each one to answer these in writing:
- Products and variants included, and who loads them.
- Which theme, at what licence cost, or custom design.
- The payment provider, and who applies for it.
- Delivery zones by postcode, with Queanbeyan and Googong decided.
- Whether POS and market selling are in scope.
- Monthly app or plugin bills, and who pays them.
- On a migration, a redirect map for every old URL.
- Store, domain and payment accounts in the owner's name.
- Support: what's covered, for how long, at what cost.
ABN Lookup and .com.au checks are on our Canberra page.
What an ecommerce website needs
Beyond product pages and checkout, a Canberra store needs delivery zones and pickup times shown before payment, returns, privacy and terms pages, and order emails that double as tax invoices for agency and trade buyers. GST registration and Consumer Law refunds are on the national ecommerce page.
What moves a store from A$2,400 towards A$19,500
SKU and variant count, custom design instead of a configured theme, migration of products, customers and orders, accounting or ERP integrations, B2B rules, POS, and liquor age gating.
