Overview

Ours is A$2,400–A$19,500 ex GST for a Shopify, WooCommerce or custom store, live in two to six weeks, with one figure agreed in writing before work starts. Nine in ten Australians live outside Greater Perth, so every store ships by state and shows dispatch cut-offs in the shopper's own time. You deal directly with the founder, Ashish, on WhatsApp and video calls, from our studio in Lucknow, India.

Ecommerce website cost in Perth: seven providers’ published figures beside ours

On 6 October 2026 we opened the ecommerce pages of seven Perth providers that sell store builds and noted every figure each prints. Planted Web Design's guide also ranks, but it sells nothing, so it sits outside the table. Three of the seven print a store price; we'll check again in January 2027.

A higher floor can pay for things we don't offer: a workshop in the agency's office, a warehouse visit, WA references you can meet face to face. If those matter, they're worth paying for. Our band starts lower because there is no Perth office to fund. Sites that don't sell online are priced on our Perth website cost page.

Shortlisting an ecommerce agency in Perth: five things to get in writing

Whoever makes your shortlist, us included, ask for these five things on paper. Each maps to a column above or to a Perth risk the table can't show.

  • One fixed figure, and whether GST is in it

The price column mixes floors, ranges and blanks. Get one number for your catalogue, with its GST basis, before comparing quotes.

  • A launch week, not just a duration

Ask which week the store goes live and what would push it back.

  • Accounts opened in your business name

Domain, platform, payment provider and analytics should be yours from day one, so the store stays yours if you change developer.

  • Test orders to east-coast postcodes

Ask for test orders to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane before launch, showing the freight and delivery estimate each shopper would see.

  • The licence block and age gate, if you hold a liquor licence

See where the licence details, warning and age checks sit in the design before signing.

Selling over east from Perth: a store set up for the other 91% of Australia

Greater Perth had 2,452,800 residents at 30 June 2025, about 8.9% of Australia's 27.6 million people (ABS), so most shoppers a Perth store can reach live in another state. They pay more freight and wait longer than a buyer in Joondalup, and 73% say a good delivery experience makes them more likely to buy online (Australia Post eCommerce Report 2026). Each setting below is configured and tested before launch.

  • Freight and delivery estimate before the cart

A postcode box on the product page shows that shopper's delivery cost and estimate for the route, so a Hobart buyer isn't caught out on the final screen.

  • A shipping zone for each state

Perth metro, regional WA and each eastern state get their own zone, with rates from your carrier account; your carrier agreement sets the prices.

  • Free-shipping thresholds per zone

One national threshold either loses money on heavy parcels to Cairns or overcharges Perth buyers. A threshold per zone avoids both.

  • Parcel Lockers and collection

69% of Australian shoppers like a wide range of delivery options, and 32% would switch retailer for out-of-home collection such as Parcel Lockers (Australia Post). Checkout offers lockers where your carrier supports them.

  • Countdowns that convert time zones

A Perth sale ending at midnight runs until 3am in Melbourne, so banners, countdowns and sale emails are timed for each shopper's zone.

  • A shorter checkout

Guest checkout, express wallets where your payment provider offers them and address autocomplete are listed in the written scope.

A Perth dispatch cut-off and sale end as shoppers see them, 4 Oct 2026 – 4 Apr 2027 (zone rules from timeanddate.com).

When daylight saving ends on 4 April 2027, the AEDT cities drop back to 2 hours ahead of Perth and Adelaide to 1.5. The store reads each zone's rules rather than fixed offsets, so countdowns stay right through the switch. Carrier speeds out of WA are on our Perth Shopify developers page.

What moves a Perth store from A$2,400 towards A$19,500

PerthWeb doesn't say what lifts a store above A$3,500, and neither SLICK nor Clue itemises anything above its floor. Near the bottom of our band sits a ready-made theme, a modest catalogue, standard zones and card and wallet payments; near the top, a custom design with thousands of SKUs, a migration and trade pricing. Six things move the figure, heaviest first.

  • Catalogue size and variants

Ten products with one photo each can usually go live in about two weeks once your content is ready. Two thousand SKUs in sizes and colours need import templates, variant images and filters.

  • Moving from an old store or a spreadsheet

Products, customers and order history have to arrive intact, and every old product address needs a redirect so search listings still land somewhere useful.

  • Trade pricing and accounts

Wholesale logins with their own prices, minimum orders or terms add set-up and testing. One trade list is modest; dozens of account-specific lists are not.

  • Counter and website stock sync

Shop and website must draw on one stock figure, or the last unit sells twice.

  • Liquor licence details and age checks

A WA licensee selling online needs an age check, a licence block and the prescribed under-18 warning, adding checkout steps and product-page copy.

  • Accounting or ERP links

Pushing orders into Xero or MYOB, or pulling stock from an ERP, is quoted separately; see Xero and MYOB integration.

Which platform is best for ecommerce? Shopify for most Perth retailers, WooCommerce for content-heavy stores and flexible trade rules, custom Laravel or Next.js for true ordering portals. Shopify developers in Perth, WooCommerce developers in Perth and our national ecommerce page go deeper. WCAG 2.2 AA checkout testing can be written into the scope.

Ecommerce website examples for Perth businesses, platform by platform

WA households spent $9.1 billion online in 2025, up 18%, the fastest growth of any state (Australia Post eCommerce Report 2026). A Perth store has the fastest-growing state market on its doorstep and the other 91% of Australia a carrier away. Below are five stores Perth and WA businesses commonly plan, with the platform we'd usually suggest. These are typical scopes, not client projects.

We give a position rather than a dollar figure, because the price follows your product list. Finished work is on our projects page.

For the boutique row: ABS counts for June 2025 put 353 retail businesses in the Perth (West)–Northbridge SA2 area, 196 in Fremantle and 180 in Subiaco–Shenton Park. Shopify POS runs the counter from the same stock count, at 1.85% per in-person card sale on Basic, and POS Pro adds A$129 a month per location (Shopify AU, checked 7 Oct 2026). With a handful of products, a self-serve builder such as Shopify Basic may be enough for now.

WA rules that change the build: online liquor sales and expanded-plastic packaging

WA licensees selling liquor online must show their licence number, licence class, licensee name, premises address and phone, plus the prescribed Liquor Control Act 1988 warning about under-18s. That affects Swan Valley and Margaret River wineries, craft breweries and bottle shops. WA's expanded-plastic packaging ban touches anyone posting fragile goods. We found neither rule on the Dilate, Lethal, PerthWeb, SLICK, ALYKA or Indepth ecommerce pages.

WA rules that change an online store, checked 6 Oct 2026.
RuleWhat it requiresWhat goes into the store
Online packaged-liquor sales (wa.gov.au, updated 19 Jun 2026)Only licensed sellers may sell packaged liquor online, with no sales or deliveries to juvenilesAge confirmation on entry, an age declaration at checkout, a delivery note for ID checks
Website disclosure for hotel, liquor store, producer's and wholesaler's licences, and special facility licences authorising packaged salesLicence number, class, licensee name, premises address and phoneA licence block in the footer, repeated at checkout
Liquor Control Act 1988 warningThe prescribed warning that it is an offence to sell liquor to a person under 18, or for a person under 18 to buy itWarning text in the footer and on product pages
Loose-fill expanded plastic ban from 1 Sep 2023 (DWER Plan for Plastics Stage 2)No packing peanuts or other loose-fill expanded plasticShipping-policy and "what's in the box" copy matching your real packaging
Moulded or cut expanded plastic ban from 1 Jul 2025; electronic goods over 25 kg temporarily exempt under a class exemption (DWER)Products made after 1 Mar 2025 had to comply; fines up to $5,000 for an individual and $25,000 for a body corporate (WA Government, 2023)Packaging notes on fragile-goods product pages

The honest limit: we build the right-hand column. Licence questions go to Racing, Gaming and Liquor, the licensee confirms the warning wording, and choosing compliant packaging stays with you.

Trade and wholesale ordering for Malaga, Welshpool and Canning Vale suppliers

A trade store lets approved buyers see their own prices and reorder online instead of phoning the same order in every week. By our sums of ABS counts for June 2025, Greater Perth has about 6,100 wholesale and 7,900 manufacturing businesses. The Malaga SA2 area holds 204 wholesalers and 317 manufacturers, followed for wholesale by Canning Vale Commercial (173), Osborne Park Industrial (166) and Welshpool (159).

  • Trade-account login and approval

Buyers apply, you approve them, and only approved accounts see trade prices and terms.

  • Customer-specific price lists

Each account or group carries its own prices or discount tier.

  • Quote-request cart

For bulk or made-to-order lines, the buyer sends the cart as a request; an accepted quote becomes an order.

  • CSV or bulk reorder

Regular buyers upload a spreadsheet of SKUs and quantities, or repeat a past order in one click.

  • Invoice or purchase-order checkout

Approved accounts check out on terms with a PO number instead of a card.

Trade features usually sit in the upper half of the ecommerce band. Multi-step approvals, live ERP stock and pricing, or a portal with its own logic make it custom software development in Perth, priced below. WhatsApp order updates sit with AI automation in Perth.

A founder-led ecommerce developer for Perth, working from India: how it runs day to day

Codingclave has no Australian office, staff, ABN or legal entity. Ashish runs the studio from Lucknow, and Perth stores are built remotely over WhatsApp, email and video. Our working day lands at 12:30pm–9:30pm AWST; the overlap with a Perth day is set out in our Perth time-zone notes.

  • The person who quotes is the person who answers

Ashish scopes each store and leads delivery himself. Our Google reviews and project list are open to check before you commit.

  • Cut-over after Perth trading closes

When a store moves off an old platform, the switch happens in your evening after the last orders, inside our day that runs to 9:30pm AWST, with test orders placed before you open.

  • Accounts and payouts in your business name

Domain, platform, payment, analytics and Google Merchant accounts are opened in your business name, and shopper payments settle into your own bank account, never ours.

  • After launch

Optional care runs A$80–A$240 a month ex GST, with changes requested over WhatsApp. SEO and Shopping ads are separate jobs: the build adds product structured data and a Google Shopping feed so either can start later; see SEO services and Google Ads management. Nobody can guarantee rankings or sales from either.

How it works

From a product list on WhatsApp to your first order from Sydney

Start on WhatsApp
  1. Send three details

Your product count, preferred platform (or "not sure") and where you ship: Perth only, all of WA, or nationally.

  2. Written scope and a single figure

You get the scope, one price, and a list of the accounts to be opened in your name: domain, platform, payment, analytics and Google Merchant.

  3. Design and catalogue on staging

Design and product import go onto a staging link, with each round of changes usually ready by your next morning.

  4. Test orders across the country

Test orders go to Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and regional WA postcodes to check zones, cut-off display and, for liquor sellers, the age gate and licence block.

  5. Launch and handover

The store goes live with a handover video call in the early afternoon AWST covering orders, stock and settings.

How much does it cost to design an e-commerce website?

Perth providers that print a figure start at A$3,500 for a budget Shopify site (PerthWeb), A$14,990 for custom work (SLICK) and A$15,000 at Clue, where most stores run A$20,000–A$40,000. With Codingclave a store is A$2,400–A$19,500 ex GST, set by catalogue size, migration, trade pricing and liquor details. Running costs start at Shopify Basic's A$56 a month plus 1.7% + 30c per domestic card sale. WhatsApp your product count for a figure.

How much does it cost to design a website in Perth?

A site that doesn't sell online is a smaller job. With us, a WordPress site starts at A$900 ex GST and a custom business website at A$1,200 ex GST. Our Perth website cost page compares local agency figures for brochure and service sites in detail; this page covers online stores only, which start at A$2,400 ex GST.

Which ecommerce platform suits a Perth business best?

Shopify, for most Perth retailers: hosted checkout, a large app library and POS for a shop counter. WooCommerce suits sellers already on WordPress, content-heavy stores and flexible trade rules. A custom Laravel or Next.js build suits wholesalers whose ordering logic no platform handles. Our Perth Shopify and WordPress pages go deeper.

How long does an ecommerce build take, and why are Perth agencies quoting 4–12 weeks?

With us, two to six weeks. Published Perth timelines are 4–6 weeks at PerthWeb, 4–8 at Indepth Design, and about 8–12 at both SLICK and Clue for a standard store. Our day runs until 9:30pm AWST, so changes asked for in your afternoon are usually on the staging link next morning. Migrations and late photos stretch any timeline.

Can an ecommerce developer outside Perth build my store, and do I own it afterwards?

Yes, if you can check the work and you hold the accounts. Codingclave works from Lucknow, India, with no Australian office, and every stage sits on a staging link you can click through. Domain, platform, payment and analytics accounts are opened in your business name, you keep the logins, and shopper payments go straight to you. Terms for the theme and custom code are set out in the written scope.

Can I sell wine or liquor online from Western Australia?

Only if you are licensed, and never to juveniles. Hotel, liquor store, producer's and wholesaler's licensees, and special facility licensees authorised for packaged sales, must show their licence number, class, licensee name, premises address and phone online, plus the prescribed under-18 warning. We add an age gate and a checkout age declaration; licence questions go to Racing, Gaming and Liquor.

Do WA packaging rules affect how my online store ships orders?

Yes. Under WA's Plan for Plastics Stage 2, loose-fill expanded plastic such as packing peanuts has been banned since 1 September 2023, and moulded or cut expanded plastic since 1 July 2025, with electronic goods over 25 kg temporarily exempt under a class exemption. Fines reach $25,000 for a company. Your shipping copy should match the packaging you actually use.

What are good ecommerce website examples for a Perth business?

Five stores Perth businesses often plan: a Swan Valley or Margaret River cellar-door wine store; a Fremantle or Subiaco boutique sharing stock with its counter; a Perth brand shipping nationally; a Malaga or Welshpool trade portal; and a hamper or subscription box. The examples table above gives the platform, build time and band position for each.
