Overview

Codingclave is a founder-led team in Lucknow, India; we talk on WhatsApp or by evening video from 3:30pm AEDT. Of nine page-one results we checked on 6 October 2026, only Castle IT published an AUD app price ($15,000 to $150,000+, 3–4 months for a simple app). The full comparison is below.

Quick answer

What do app developers in Newcastle NSW charge for an iOS + Android app?

Castle IT is the only page-one result with an AUD figure: $15K for a simple app up to $150K+ for complex enterprise work, over 3–4 months and 6–12 months respectively. 7 Pillars (Lalor VIC) shows no price; its proposal form starts at $25K–$50K. Telligence, Headjam and Sunrise publish no app price, and the UK and Indian pages that rank quote in GBP or INR. We build for both platforms at A$6,900–A$43,000 across 4–12 weeks, and hosting with support is optional at A$80–A$240 a month.

Website-mirror app, marketplace gig or custom app development: what a Newcastle quote buys

Telligence's app inclusions list up to six buttons tied to its own CMS; Castle IT's page covers custom iOS, Android and PWA work. Both get called "an app", so match like with like before comparing totals.

  • A CMS mirror app

Your website repeated in a store listing: banner, colours, a handful of buttons and push notifications. It suits a club sending alerts. It won't carry logins, bookings or payments, and moving off that CMS usually means starting again.

  • A marketplace freelancer

Airtasker's Google listing advertises 20 app developers for Newcastle: you post the job and freelancers quote. That works for fixing a crash in an app you already own. For a whole product, you write the scope, check past apps and settle who holds the code yourself.

  • A progressive web app (PWA)

A website that installs to the home screen and caches pages for weak signal. No store fees, so it sits at the low end of any band; good for staff tools, but customers won't find it in the App Store.

  • One cross-platform codebase: Flutter or React Native

We work as Flutter and React Native developers for Newcastle iOS and Android apps: one codebase, so design, testing and every later change are paid for once rather than twice. A simple booking app sits low in our band; an offline crew app sits near the top. The two frameworks are compared in Flutter vs React Native in 2026.

  • Two native apps

Separate Swift and Kotlin codebases roughly double the cost of every later change, which pays off only for heavy hardware use or platform-specific performance. We build cross-platform and will tell you if your brief needs a native specialist.

  • Redesigning an app you already have

Yes. If the listings sit in your business's accounts, a rebuild can usually ship as an update, keeping installs and ratings. For a stalled freelancer build we read the repository, then quote finishing against restarting, in writing.

Greater Newcastle's five council areas had 46,499 businesses and 655,427 residents at June 2025: Newcastle 16,296 businesses, Lake Macquarie 15,181, Maitland 6,142, Port Stephens 5,254 and Cessnock 3,626. Across all five, 5,142 are in health care and social assistance and 9,278 in construction, so an app planned for a Charlestown practice or a Raymond Terrace builder serves the wider Hunter, not only the city LGA.

A health or care app for a Newcastle practice: TGA and privacy checks before scoping

Hospitals are the city's top industry of employment, so many Newcastle briefs touch patient data. Settle these before design starts (general information, not legal advice). The booking and records side is covered on our medical and allied-health clinics page.

  • Is the software a medical device?

The TGA says a software-based medical device can only be supplied in Australia once it is in the ARTG, unless exempt or excluded. Generally excluded: consumer wellness software offering no specific treatment suggestions, and digital mental health tools.

  • Booking app, symptom tracker, dosing calculator

A booking and reminder app neither diagnoses nor treats, so it generally sits outside device rules. A symptom diary that only records entries is near the wellness exclusion until it suggests what to do. A dose calculator for a particular patient gives a specific treatment output: get regulatory advice before quoting.

  • Health providers are covered at any size

The Privacy Act's small-business exemption doesn't reach health service providers, so a two-room Charlestown physio is covered. What sending records to an overseas contractor involves is on our Newcastle custom software page.

  • How do you make an app secure?

    • On the phone: store the minimum, encrypted, wiped at sign-out.
    • Push notifications: a locked screen says "Appointment tomorrow, 10am", never the condition.
    • Logins: sessions expire after idle time; sensitive screens ask again.
    • Hosting: where patient data sits is named in your written scope; see the note under our prices.
  • 10 December 2026: two changes

If you're covered and your app's software makes decisions that could significantly affect someone's rights or interests, your privacy policy must say so (APP 1.8). The Children's Online Privacy Code is due by then for services likely used by children, such as a junior sports club app (Corrs summary).

Apps that keep working underground, between vineyard rows or on the Kooragang wharf

Will my app work offline? Only if planned from the first screen: coverage fails down a mine, between Pokolbin vines or among Kooragang's sheds.

  • Save to the phone, send later

Each form is saved on the device and queued. When 4G or Wi-Fi returns, the queue uploads in order and marks items sent, so the worker sees what's waiting.

  • Two people, one job

Two supervisors edit one pre-start check out of range. The scope says which version wins: later timestamp, senior role, or both kept for the office.

  • Photos and signatures held for signal

Images are compressed and queued with the handset's own time and location, which need no data. Background maps must be cached while coverage lasts.

  • Airplane-mode test before sign-off

Complete three jobs in airplane mode, restart the phone, restore signal, and confirm the office sees all three. It's in the acceptance criteria.

  • Can the app connect to your website’s database?

Usually. Rather than letting the app reach into the database directly, we put a secured API in front of your WordPress, Laravel or other site, so customers see the same bookings or accounts on web and phone. An older server may need upgrading first; if the WordPress site itself needs work, see our Newcastle WordPress page.

What moves a field app toward the top of the band: conflict-aware sync, crew, supervisor and office roles, photo-heavy forms, and dispatch or accounting links.

When a Newcastle sole trader is better served by a PWA, a booking site or a WhatsApp bot

Over half of Newcastle's businesses have no staff. For many, the PWA described above or one of these does the job first:

  • A website that takes bookings

If customers mostly find you, book or call, a booking site does it: A$1,200–A$6,900 with us, with Newcastle prices compared on our Newcastle page. Tradies can start with a site that wins quote requests.

  • An online shop

A store needs no install and costs A$2,400–A$19,500; see online shops in Newcastle.

  • A WhatsApp or AI chatbot

For repeat questions or chat bookings, a bot meets customers in WhatsApp: A$1,950–A$23,500 over 2–6 weeks (AI and WhatsApp automation).

  • A browser portal for your team

Office staff at desks may suit a web portal, with no store fees or testing fortnight: our custom software band, A$9,800–A$98,000, on custom software in Newcastle.

Build the app once repeat use is proven: weekly regulars, crews working out of signal, or the recall reminders a Charlestown physio actually loses bookings without.

Seven checks for the Newcastle app quote already in your inbox

Each check below comes from a gap in one of the nine pages compared above.

  • 1. Mirror app or custom build?

A CMS, a fixed button count or "your website as an app" signals a mirror app: alerts only.

  • 2. Store accounts in your business’s name?

Your business should enrol with Apple and Google and pay them directly. An app under a developer's account is harder to move later.

  • 3. Google’s closed-test fortnight in the timeline?

A personal Play account opened after November 2023 needs at least 12 testers and 14 days of closed testing; a schedule ending at "submit" may skip it.

  • 4. Who carries commission and the Play billing fee?

For subscriptions or digital sales, model Google's Australian tiers, which start at 10% + 5%, and Apple's 15% (Small Business Program), both taken off your revenue.

  • 5. What if you stop paying for hosting?

Ask in writing whether you keep the code, data and listings. With us you do, and can move hosts.

  • 6. Weeks or months?

Castle IT quotes months; we quote weeks. Either works with dated milestones; undated ones are the warning sign.

  • 7. Is GST treatment stated?

Castle IT's range doesn't say; Webdail adds Indian GST. Ask every provider to state whether GST applies and whether the total includes it.

WhatsApp us the quote you hold; we'll mark it against these seven.

A Newcastle app build on Lucknow hours: what happens at 3:30pm, at night and by morning

Since NSW moved to AEDT on 4 October 2026, our 10am–7pm India day falls in Newcastle's afternoon and evening, Monday to Saturday.

  • 3:30–5:00pm: planning calls

Ninety minutes overlap a 9–5 day, kept for scoping and design reviews.

  • Up to 9pm: after the shift

Builders off site and clinicians after the last patient can book an evening video call.

  • Overnight: notes become a build

Feedback sent after dinner reaches us mid-afternoon. We work until 12:30am Newcastle time, so the new test build is often waiting on your phone by morning.

  • Saturday on, Sunday off

Saturday runs 3:30pm–12:30am in Newcastle for weekend reviewers. We're closed Sunday.

  • From Sunday 4 April 2027

Once NSW returns to AEST (first working day Monday 5 April), the same day runs 2:30–11:30pm, and overlap with a 9–5 day grows to 2.5 hours.

How it works

From a WhatsApp brief to both app stores

Start on WhatsApp
  1. WhatsApp the brief

Tell us the screens, who logs in and where the phone gets used: a site, a treatment room, a counter.

  2. One AUD figure in writing

The quote lists what's in, what's out and dated milestones counted in weeks; the same document sets the payment split and methods. A change you ask for after sign-off is priced in writing first, and the total moves only if you approve it.

  3. Clickable design, signed off

You tap through the main screens on your phone and approve them before any code.

  4. Weekly evening demos

Progress on video weekly, with TestFlight and Google Play test builds on your own phone.

  5. Stores in your business's name

You enrol with Apple and Google; we prepare listings, run Google's closed test if it applies, and submit.

  6. Handover, then optional support

You leave with the code repository, every admin login and notes on how the app is put together. Whether a bug-fix period follows, and for how long, is set out before you sign; hosting and support after that are your choice.

How much does it cost to hire a mobile app developer in Newcastle?

We price the whole project rather than hiring out a developer by the hour: A$6,900–A$43,000 for an iOS + Android app, fixed in one AUD quote against a written scope. For comparison, Castle IT's published floor is $15,000 for a simple app. What moves a quote within our band: screen count, logins, payments and offline use. If you'd rather compare hourly rates across Australia, our national app development cost guide lists them.

How much is a Newcastle app with 100,000 users worth?

Downloads alone don't set the value. A buyer pays for revenue, users still active months later and margin after running costs. A free booking app for a Newcastle practice is worth the staff time and missed appointments it saves. A subscription app is valued on yearly income after Google's 10% + 5% on Australian subscribers and Apple's share. For a figure you can rely on in a sale or capital raise, ask a business valuer.

How long does it take to build a mobile app in Newcastle, and what if it runs late?

Our builds take 4–12 weeks: about four for a few screens and one user type, nearer twelve with payments, offline sync or links to systems you already run. Castle IT's page gives 3–4 months for a simple app and 6–12 for a complex one. Each milestone carries a date in the written scope and you see a build weekly, so a slip shows early. Allow for Google's 14-day closed test on a new personal Play account too.

Do I need an app developer based in Newcastle to meet face to face?

Not for most apps. Telligence in Lambton (by appointment) and Headjam in Newcastle West have offices to visit, and Castle IT's site data lists a Maryville address; other page-one providers sit in Victoria, Perth, the UK or India. We're in Lucknow: you share your screen, review clickable designs on video and test real builds on your phone weekly. A Newcastle studio suits on-site staff workshops.

Will my app work offline on a Hunter mine site or vineyard?

Yes, if offline use is designed in from the start. Forms, photos and signatures save on the phone and upload when coverage returns, with scope rules for two people editing one job, and we test in airplane mode before you accept. Offline sync is extra work, so a field app with crew and supervisor roles usually sits toward the top of our A$6,900–A$43,000 band.

Can a remote developer build an app for a Newcastle health practice?

Plenty of Newcastle briefs come from health, since hospitals employ 6.6% of the city's working residents. Distance isn't the hurdle; the rules are. First, work out whether the app's purpose could make it a TGA-regulated medical device: a booking and reminder app for a Hamilton physio generally isn't, while software recommending a specific dose may be. Second, a practice of any size is covered by the Privacy Act, so decide which patient details live on the phone and which overseas staff can reach them. General information, not legal advice.

Do you build both iOS and Android, and can I change the app after launch?

Yes to both. One Flutter or React Native codebase runs on iPhone and Android. Your business opens both developer accounts and pays Apple and Google directly; we're added as team members to handle submission, listings and review questions, so ratings and installs stay with you if you change developers. After launch, changes ship as updates to the same listings: we build and test, you approve, each store reviews again. Updates sit in a support plan or are quoted per change.

Can an offshore app build count for the R&D Tax Incentive?

Possibly, but not automatically, which matters for Newcastle founders and University of Newcastle spinouts. Overseas R&D spending, including on an offshore developer, counts only with a positive overseas finding, which needs at least one core R&D activity done solely in Australia that can't be completed without the overseas work. Changes from the 2026–27 Budget start on 1 July 2028; current rules apply until then. See a tax adviser before signing; we don't assess eligibility, and building with us doesn't create it.
