Quick answer

How much does it cost to have an app built on the Sunshine Coast?

The lowest figure a Coast developer prints is Dr App's Silver package: $3,300 inc GST ($3,000 before GST) for up to five screens, on a page last changed in June 2022. Its Gold job-management package is $11,000 inc GST, Identity Software lists one project at $10,000–$25,000, and Devwiz says most of its app work falls between $25,000 and $100,000. ISH Technologies, App Consultants and Team400 name a number only after a conversation. Add Apple's US$99 a year and Google Play's US$25 one-off fee. Our bands: entry from A$6,900, mid about A$15,000–A$25,000, top about A$25,000–A$43,000.

  • Lowest printed: $3,300 inc GST (Dr App, 2022 page)
  • Bespoke builds: $10,000 (Identity) to $100,000 (Devwiz)
  • Store fees: Apple US$99 a year, Google US$25 once
  • Ours: A$6,900–A$43,000 ex GST, 4–12 weeks

Where Dr App beats us on price. If Silver still sells for $3,000 before GST, it undercuts our A$6,900 entry for a five-screen app with login, and Gold's $10,000 job-management package beats our A$25,000–A$43,000 for an offline crew app. Those are 2022 figures, so ask Dr App for a current price and compare line by line.

When a Coast developer is the better pick, and when we are

Identity Software's FAQ asks why anyone would hire offshore. Three cases below point to a Coast or Brisbane firm; one points to us, and you can check us first: ★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews), 200+ projects since 2017, Top Rated on Upwork, founder-led delivery.

  • Choose us: a clear version one, under A$43,000

You know what the first release must do, want iPhone and Android from one build, and are happy with written feedback plus an afternoon video call. Devwiz puts most app projects at $25,000 or more; ours start at A$6,900, and a crew or clinic app usually lands between A$15,000 and A$43,000. Store accounts and the repository are yours from week one. See our reviews and past work.

  • Choose a Coast firm: whiteboard workshops

If the idea is still a sketch and you think best at a whiteboard, pick someone you can visit: Dr App at Sippy Downs, Identity Software in Mooloolaba, or Devwiz, whose founder James Killick is in Maroochydore. We can't meet in person.

  • Choose a native specialist: Apple Watch or AR

We write in Flutter and React Native, which reach the camera, GPS, Bluetooth and push messages through plugins. A watch companion or augmented reality suits a native specialist; Dr App's Platinum tier lists Apple Watch at $25,000 before GST.

  • Choose ISH: government or on-site integration

When an app must talk to a government system, a freight yard or factory machinery, people who turn up matter. ISH visits from Brisbane and lists a Queensland Government IoT project and McPhee Freight among its case studies.

Still weighing it up? Tell us on WhatsApp what the app needs to do and we'll say which of these four fits, even when it's Dr App or ISH.

Which Coast businesses are big enough for an app to pay back

4,693 businesses in the Sunshine Coast Council area employ five or more people, 12.0% of the 39,239 the ABS counted at 30 June 2025. That is where a custom app tends to pay back, because there are people to coordinate: crews in vans, rostered shifts, a shared practitioner diary. A sole operator rarely recovers the build.

Noosa Shire adds 890 more businesses with five or more staff, 174 of them in accommodation and food services (out of 408 there). On the Coast, health care and social assistance businesses rose 5.4% in a year, from 3,458 to 3,645. The ABS refreshes these council-level counts each December.

Run a crew of five or more? Tell us how jobs reach them today and we'll say whether an app would pay back.

Five app scopes we’d price for Coast businesses

Scopes we would quote, not client projects. A$6,900 buys a first version: a handful of screens, sign-in, one core task such as a booking request, push messages, a simple admin screen and submission to both stores, without payments or chat. Payments, extra user roles, offline sync or a dashboard add cost; see what each part of our range covers.

  • Job sheets and quotes for a builder’s crews

A Kunda Park or Caloundra West builder's crews open the day's jobs on a phone, photograph work where signal drops out, take the client's sign-off on screen, and it syncs once coverage returns. Caloundra West – Baringa had the largest population increase of any area outside the capital cities in 2024–25, about 2,000 residents (ABS). A Xero or MYOB link is set-up work scoped before you sign. Offline sync plus two roles: about A$25,000–A$43,000. See trade businesses.

  • Bookings and home exercises for a physio clinic

A Birtinya or Buderim physio lets patients book, move appointments, get reminders and follow a home program with short videos. Health information brings in the Privacy Act at any turnover (see below). Expect about A$15,000–A$25,000; a full practice system is clinic software, at A$6,900–A$51,000.

  • A guest app for Noosa stays or Mooloolaba charters

A Noosa short-stay operator or a Mooloolaba charter business sends guests their itinerary, check-in steps or boarding time, plus a push alert when weather changes the plan. Without payments this can start at A$6,900. For rooms and housekeeping, see our hotel management software; channel-manager or Australian payment connections are custom work we scope first.

  • Offline farm records for hinterland growers

Growers around Maleny, Palmwoods and the Glass House Mountains often work out of range. Staff log spraying, picking or stock movements in the paddock; the app stores it on the phone and uploads later, with a web dashboard for the office. Dependable sync puts this at about A$25,000–A$43,000.

  • Members and classes for a gym or surf school

A Coolum gym or Mooloolaba surf school lets members book a class, buy a pass, sign a waiver and get a reminder, with card payments through a gateway named in your quote: about A$15,000–A$25,000. Booking in three taps on a wet phone is a UI/UX design job as much as code.

Got a rough feature list? Send it to us on WhatsApp and we'll say which band it falls in.

Before you commission an app: three cheaper routes to check

A Noosa café asking for an app usually needs online ordering customers reach from Google, not a download. Build an app when it must work offline, use the camera, send push alerts or sit in the stores; otherwise check these first.

  • A website or online store

If customers mainly need to find you, a site costs a fraction of an app: see our Sunshine Coast page for web design prices, or an online store for retailers.

  • An installable web app (PWA)

A site that opens from a home-screen icon, with no store approval or fees. iPhones restrict some features, so check your must-haves.

  • A WhatsApp or AI chatbot

For answering questions and taking bookings: A$1,950–A$23,500 in 2–6 weeks. See AI and automation.

Feature hours, store commission and a three-year cost model are on our national app page; for app marketing see SEO and Google Ads.

From TestFlight to App Store review: how a Coast app build runs week to week

Queensland skips daylight saving, so our 2:30pm–11:30pm AEST working day (Monday to Saturday) lines up the same way all year; the Sunshine Coast WordPress page sets out the hours in full.

  • Afternoon design review

Planning and design sign-off happen on a video call around 3pm your time, with the prototype open on your own phone.

  • Test builds the next morning

Feedback sent mid-afternoon is worked on through your evening; milestone builds go out through TestFlight or Google Play internal testing and are often ready to install the next morning.

  • Apple’s review at launch

Neither Apple nor Google times its review around your launch date. Allow several days before any promotion, and be ready to resubmit if a reviewer asks for a change.

Book a 3pm AEST video call on WhatsApp and tell us the day that suits you.

Due diligence on any Sunshine Coast app developer, us included

'Do your due diligence' is the top reply in one of the Facebook threads Google shows for this search. In practice, for any firm, us included:

  • Search their apps and date their prices

Find something they built on the App Store or Google Play and install it; for ours, ask for examples and see our past work. Check a price page's modified date too: of the Coast pages we read, one dates from 2022 and another from 2023.

  • Ask who writes and reviews the code

Own staff, a subcontractor or an offshore team? Have the contract name the people; ours is founder-led delivery from Lucknow. Offshore work has a reputation for buggy code, so ask for code review before each milestone and repository access from week one.

  • Put the accounts and the IP in your name

The Apple Developer account, Google Play Console, domain and repository should belong to your business, with the developer added as a user, and the contract should assign the code, designs and IP to you. Ask what happens to unfinished work if the job ends early.

  • Pay against builds on your phone

Tie each payment to a build you have installed through TestFlight or Google Play internal testing, not a progress report. Our quote lists each milestone, the build you'll install to check it, and the payment due against it.

  • Check the ABN

Search ABN Lookup for any Australian firm. Codingclave has no ABN: you contract with Codingclave Development LLP in India, founded by Ashish Sharma in 2017.

  • Ask what happens after launch

New iOS and Android releases can break a screen, and fixes go back through store review. Our hosting and support is A$80–A$240 a month, and your quote sets out any bug-fix period. If you need someone on call at 10am, a Coast firm suits you better.

More on offshore safeguards and APP 8 is on the national app page.

R&D Tax Incentive and privacy rules Coast founders and clinics ask about

For founders at the Innovation Centre in Sippy Downs or USC spin-outs counting on the R&D Tax Incentive. General information only, not tax or legal advice.

  • The refundable offset

Companies with aggregated turnover under $20 million can receive their company tax rate plus an 18.5% premium as a refundable offset (business.gov.au overview). Whether your app is eligible R&D is your adviser's call.

  • Building overseas needs an overseas finding

Overseas R&D only counts with a positive overseas finding, applied for before the end of the income year. It must be linked to Australian core R&D, impossible to do solely in Australia for one of the allowable reasons business.gov.au lists (financial reasons are insufficient), and cost less than the related Australian R&D. See your adviser before picking any offshore developer, us included.

  • Internal admin software is excluded

Software built mainly for your own internal administration is excluded, so a job-sheet app used only inside your business may not qualify.

  • Privacy for clinics and NDIS providers

Most firms under the OAIC's $3 million turnover threshold are outside the Privacy Act, but health service providers are covered at any turnover: any clinic that holds health information, and any NDIS provider delivering a health service. Read our page on APP 8 and overseas disclosure first.

Planning a claim? Send us your scope and we'll send a fixed quote your R&D adviser can review. If the app isn't R&D, the tax points above fall away, though the privacy rules may still apply.

How it works

From feature list to both app stores

Start on WhatsApp
  1. Send your feature list

Use WhatsApp or the form below; a rough list or a sketch on paper is enough.

  2. A 3pm AEST video call

We go through the list together and cut it down to version one.

  3. A fixed AUD quote in writing

Scope, milestones, payment schedule and hosting region are confirmed in writing for your business before you sign.

  4. Accounts in your business's name

Apple Developer, Google Play Console and the repository are registered to you, with us added as users.

  5. Clickable design, then phone builds

Approve a clickable design, then test each milestone on your own phone through TestFlight or Google Play internal testing.

  6. Launch and handover

Store submission, then the source code and IP pass to you, as set out in your contract. Support afterwards is optional, at A$80–A$240 a month.

Ask on WhatsApp

How much would it cost to have someone develop an app on the Sunshine Coast?

Dr App's packages are $3,000, $10,000 and $25,000 ex GST ($3,300, $11,000 and $27,500 inc GST) on a 2022 page, taking 1 month, 3 months and 3–5+ months. Devwiz puts most projects at $25,000–$100,000; nationally, ISH's guide starts simple apps at A$25K, and our national app page has the full Australian cost model. We quote one fixed figure for iPhone and Android in 4–12 weeks: entry from A$6,900, mid about A$15,000–A$25,000, top about A$25,000–A$43,000.

How much does it cost to hire an app developer on the Sunshine Coast by the hour?

Of the Coast pages we checked on 6 October 2026, only Dr App prints a rate: $80 an hour for changes after launch. The others price by project. We don't sell hours: one fixed AUD price covers the agreed scope, and anything added mid-build is priced and agreed before work on it starts.

Should I use a local Sunshine Coast developer or an offshore team?

Pick a Coast firm for whiteboard workshops, native Apple Watch or AR work, or on-site government and enterprise integration. An offshore team suits a defined version one on a budget; we cost less because Lucknow overheads are lower and both platforms share one codebase. The trade-offs: no in-person meetings, 2.5 hours of live overlap a day, and a contract with an Indian LLP rather than an ABN holder. Accounts and code in your name, and payments tied to builds you install, protect you.

Can I claim the R&D Tax Incentive if my app is built overseas?

Possibly, but only with a positive overseas finding applied for before the end of the income year. Financial reasons are insufficient, the work must be linked to Australian core R&D, and the overseas spend must be less than the related Australian R&D spend. Software built mainly for your own internal administration is excluded altogether. Talk to your R&D adviser before you sign with any offshore developer.

Is there an app developer on the Sunshine Coast I can meet in person?

Yes. Devwiz's founder is in Maroochydore and offers Coast meetings, Dr App is at Sippy Downs (it says it won a 2023 Sunshine Coast Business Awards category) and Identity Software is in Mooloolaba; none we read listed a Noosa or Caloundra office. ISH Technologies travels up from Brisbane. We don't meet in person: we work from India by video call, WhatsApp and email.

Do Sunshine Coast app developers' prices include GST?

It depends on the firm. Dr App quotes $3,300, $11,000 and $27,500 including GST, which is $3,000, $10,000 and $25,000 before GST. Devwiz and Identity Software don't say, so ask before you compare. Our prices exclude GST, as the note under our prices explains; the national app page covers GST when the developer is overseas.

Do I own the app, the code and the App Store accounts if a Coast developer builds it?

Only if it is set up that way. Register the Apple and Google accounts, domain and repository to your business, with the developer added as a user, and have the contract assign the code, designs and IP to your company. We work this way, with the terms in your contract. If another developer built your app, the same accounts and repository access let us review the code and take it over.

How much is a Sunshine Coast app with 100,000 users worth?

Count active, paying users, not downloads: multiply active users by the share who pay, then by what each payer spends a year. A hypothetical: 100,000 downloads with 20% still active is 20,000 people; if 3% pay, that's 600 payers; at A$60 a year each, A$36,000 a year. A buyer values that revenue (or the profit after running costs), not the download count.
