What WordPress developers on the Sunshine Coast charge, from their own pages (checked 6 Oct 2026)

Most providers keep prices off their main service page, so we followed each one's links to any price or care-plan page and wrote down what was printed. Amounts and GST wording are as shown on 6 October 2026; open the live page before relying on a figure. We re-check this table each quarter, next in January 2027.

Why the figures spread so far. A designer working alone in one builder sits low; an agency with account managers and bundled care sits higher. Copywriting and builder licences move it too.

How long a WordPress site takes: Coast timelines next to ours

Each provider counts time differently, so the last column shows when its clock starts where the page says.

  • What stops the clock

Unwritten copy, missing logins, a photo shoot booked for next month, and DNS access held by whoever registered the domain years ago. Our 1–2 weeks begin when the last item on your quote's checklist lands; drafting the words can be added to the quote.

  • Why ours is shorter, and when it isn’t

A small site on a block theme or your current builder skips a month of design rounds, and our day runs into your evening, so afternoon notes can be picked up that night. Allow longer for a shop with hundreds of SKUs or a booking integration that needs checking first. Launch isn't ranking: see SEO services; nobody can guarantee rankings or leads.

WordPress care and hosting plans on the Sunshine Coast, side by side

After launch, the monthly plan is the cost you live with. A two-person Buderim business rarely needs a block of developer hours; it needs updates done, backups it can download and someone on hand when a plugin breaks.

Elementor, Divi, WPBakery or GeneratePress: which builder your site runs on and whose licence it is

W3Techs finds Elementor on 31.5% of WordPress sites, so about a third of Coast sites may run it too. Coast providers' own websites show four builder setups in their page source on 6 October 2026. Each needs a licence, and whoever holds that licence controls the updates.

  • When the licence lapses

The site rarely goes offline; what stops is updates and vendor support. WordPress (7.1.3 at 7 October 2026) and PHP keep moving, so a frozen builder falls out of step and its security patches may never reach your dashboard.

  • Licence held in your developer’s account

Some studios run every client on one multi-site licence, which works until you leave. Before you sign, find out whose account the licence sits in, whether it moves to you at handover and who pays each renewal.

  • Moving off a builder

It's a rebuild, not a migration: text and images come across, layouts are remade, and shortcode builders leave bracketed code behind. If the site works and the licence is yours, renewing is usually cheaper. Move when you're redesigning anyway or the person holding the licence has vanished.

Fix, update or take over a WordPress site someone else built

Recent Sunshine Coast WordPress jobs on Airtasker were a theme update, a broken plugin or 'help with my WordPress site' rather than builds. This is how we handle that kind of work, and when to go elsewhere.

  • What to send first

    • A screenshot and the page address.
    • A temporary Administrator account you create under Users and delete afterwards.
    • Hosting access through your host's own user invite.

Never paste passwords into WhatsApp or email.

  • How a fix is priced

We look for free, then send one AUD price covering the problem, the change and what happens if it uncovers something bigger. There's no hourly meter, and nothing outside that price is billed unless you approve it.

  • When Airtasker or a freelancer is the cheaper honest choice

For a 20-minute theme update or a new footer phone number, an Airtasker freelancer is probably cheaper; recent Coast WordPress tasks there were paid $50–$150. We suit jobs better when a fix touches several plugins, needs a staging copy or keeps coming back.

  • Taking over from a developer who has gone quiet

Recover the domain registrar first, since the domain controls both the site and the email, then the hosting account, a WordPress Administrator login and the builder and plugin licence keys. If the site redirects to spam or shows admins nobody created, start with the hacked-site checklist.

WooCommerce for Sunshine Coast shops, and when Shopify fits better

W3Techs puts WooCommerce on 19.8% of WordPress sites. It suits a Coast business whose shop is one part of a site that already brings in visitors through service pages or a blog.

  • Shipping zones and pickup

Postcode-based zones handle posting orders around Queensland and interstate, and a pickup option per location covers a Noosa shopfront or a Saturday market stall. Both sit inside the quote as separate lines.

  • Payment gateways

Which gateway and payment methods your shop uses is confirmed in writing for your business before you sign, along with who holds the merchant account (you, always).

  • Moving a shop across

Leaving Shopify, or replacing an old WooCommerce theme, means carrying over products, customers, order history where the export allows, and redirects for every product URL.

  • When Shopify is the better pick

If the shop is the business, Shopify runs hosting and checkout for you, and there's less to update. Compare Shopify development and ecommerce development.

WooCommerce builds sit in our A$2,400–A$19,500 band over 2–6 weeks. Tell me roughly how many products you have.

WordPress setups for the Sunshine Coast’s priority industries

Sunshine Coast Council names seven high-value industries in a $29.08 billion economy. Below, each mapped to the site it tends to need and the paid add-ons to ask about, since that's where yearly licence costs creep in.

  • Tradies and home services (not on Council’s list)

Builders, sparkies, plumbers and pool companies from Nambour to Caloundra need a page per service area, click-to-call on mobile, a quote form and a project gallery. Usually A$900–A$4,300; more on tradie websites.

  • Event and race-entry sites

Council lists the Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival and Ironman 70.3 among its signature events, and the Coast is a Co-Host City for some Brisbane 2032 events. A bike shop or a club fun run needs dates, entry links and a calendar staff can update; event-week ads sit under Google Ads management.

  • Practitioner pages for the Birtinya and Kawana health precinct

Each practitioner gets a profile and a button into the clinic's existing booking software, plus a short enquiry form with no clinical questions. See clinic websites.

  • Direct-booking pages for stays from Noosa to Caloundra

A Caloundra unit or a cabin near Noosa can take repeat guests on its own domain, linking to or embedding a channel manager or booking engine confirmed in writing before you sign. Noosa's short-stay rules are on our Sunshine Coast page; see also accommodation websites.

Sunshine Coast Council's high-value industries and the WordPress setup each one usually needs

Most of these land in the A$900–A$4,300 WordPress band, and shops in A$2,400–A$19,500. A professional firm wanting a fully custom design, built in WordPress or Next.js, sits in our A$1,200–A$6,900 business-website band.

Do you need a Sunshine Coast host for a WordPress site?

No. Maroochydore's NEXTDC SC1, a Tier 3 edge data centre, connects straight into the Coast's international submarine cable (36 Tbps, in place since 2020, per council). For a brochure site or a WooCommerce shop, though, an Australian data centre and good caching matter more than the suburb. If we host yours, the region is confirmed in writing for your business before you sign.

  • Before you accept free hosting forever

The offer came up in a Sunshine Coast Reddit thread. Ask whose name the account is in, whether you can download the backups, what leaving costs and whether your domain sits inside the deal. Vague answers mean it's free only while you stay.

  • If you already host on the Coast

Keep it if it's quick, backs up off-site and gives you your own login; we can work through a user invite. Move only if the plan is slow, unsupported or tied to a developer you're leaving.

The WordPress hosting checklist covers PHP, caching, staging and the account holder. Not sure about your current plan? Send me your host's name.

Not down the road: hiring an India-based WordPress team from the Coast

Some Coast studios sell 'built in Australia, not outsourced overseas', and some Airtasker posters want in-person help only. Want someone you can meet? That isn't us. Here is what you get instead.

  • Who you contract with

Codingclave Development LLP in Lucknow, India, founded in 2017. No site visits or coffee catch-ups, no Australian office or ABN, and no Coast listing on Google Maps. Our Sunshine Coast page explains how the work runs day to day; if face-to-face matters, a Coast-based studio is the better pick.

  • What’s in your name

The domain, the WordPress Administrator login, every builder and plugin licence, and the code and design files. The hosting account is yours too when you keep your own plan; on our managed hosting you get downloadable off-site backups and a documented exit, with the terms set out before you sign. We're added as users, so another developer could take over without asking us for anything.

  • Staging, sign-off and handover

Changes go to a staging copy you approve before anything goes live. The quote lists the payment schedule; payment methods and any bug-fix period are confirmed in writing before you sign. The handover pack lists each login, each licence with its renewal date and holder, and where backups are kept. Ask to see a sample handover pack.

  • Queensland time works in your favour

Queensland skips daylight saving, so from 4 October 2026 to 4 April 2027 a Sydney agency's 9am is your 8am (NSW Government). Our day stays 2:30pm to 11:30pm on the Coast clock, Monday to Saturday, all year: 2.5 hours for calls before 5pm, then the evening. A Mooloolaba café can approve its new menu page after closing and see it live that night, with turnaround set in the quote.

  • Proof you can check

★ 4.9 on Google (76 reviews), 200+ projects since 2017, Top Rated on Upwork, and founder-led delivery: Ashish Sharma scopes each job and answers your messages. Read the reviews.

Red flags and the full account-ownership table are under hiring a remote WordPress team.

10of 10

Is WordPress still worth it in 2026, and do you need a designer or a developer?

Mostly yes, though its share is slipping. W3Techs shows WordPress fell from 43.0% of all websites on 1 January 2026 to 40.1% on 6 October, yet it remains the majority choice among sites with a known CMS, so a WordPress site is rarely hard to hand on. Demand and salary figures are on the national WordPress page.

  • Where WordPress still wins

Content-heavy service sites, an active blog, and pages owners edit themselves, such as a Buderim accountant's tax-time updates or a Caloundra physio adding a practitioner. Is it reliable? Kept updated, licensed and backed up, yes; trouble usually starts with an install nobody maintains.

  • A WordPress designer

Works mainly on look, layout and branding, usually inside one builder. Sunshine Design is an example: a graphic designer of 25 years who has built WordPress sites in Divi for seven. A good fit for a brochure site.

  • A WordPress developer

Writes code: custom themes and plugins, WooCommerce logic, integrations, migrations and performance work, which Carbono Media in Buderim sells. You need one when the site must do something a builder can't, or is broken, slow or being taken over. Most small businesses need a little of both, so our quotes price design and build lines separately.

Ask on WhatsApp

How much does a WordPress developer charge per hour on the Sunshine Coast?

Few Coast providers print an hourly rate. Sunshine Design charges $110 an hour for extra pages and for edits after sign-off. Airtasker's Coast WordPress figures (low $142, median $149, high $150, checked 6 October 2026) are per task, not per hour. We don't run a meter: send the URL and a screenshot, we look for free, and you get one AUD price before anything is touched.

How much does it cost to develop a WordPress website on the Sunshine Coast?

Published Coast figures run from $750 for one page and $2,500 for six at Sunshine Design to $3,000–$4,000 for most small-to-medium sites at Digital Nomads HQ (checked 6 October 2026). Ours are A$900–A$4,300 for WordPress and A$2,400–A$19,500 for WooCommerce, set by page count, copywriting, paid plugins and integrations.

Is WordPress still worth it in 2026 for a Sunshine Coast business?

For most service businesses, yes. W3Techs shows WordPress on 40.1% of all websites on 6 October 2026, down from 43.0% in January, and still the majority among sites with a known CMS. The current release is 7.1.3 (7 October 2026). If selling products is the site's main job, Shopify is often simpler.

WordPress designer or developer: which does a Sunshine Coast business need?

A designer handles look and layout, usually in one builder, which suits a brochure site. A developer writes code: custom themes and plugins, WooCommerce logic, integrations, migrations and fixes. If your site needs to do something a builder can't, or it's broken or being taken over, you need a developer. Most small businesses need a little of both, so ask for design and build lines priced separately.

Do I need my WordPress site hosted on the Sunshine Coast?

No. Maroochydore has NEXTDC's SC1 edge data centre on the Coast's international cable, but an Australian data centre and good caching matter more than the suburb, as do an account you can log into and backups you can download. If we host your site, the region is confirmed in writing for your business before you sign.

Can a WordPress developer who isn't on the Sunshine Coast look after my site properly?

Yes, if the domain, admin login and licences stay in your business's name, changes go through staging, and you get a handover pack. We work 2:30pm–11:30pm on the Coast clock, Monday to Saturday, all year, with 2.5 hours for afternoon calls and the evening for changes. We can't visit; if that matters, choose a Coast-based studio.

Which page builder is my WordPress site on, and who owns the licence?

Open Plugins in the dashboard: Elementor Pro, WPBakery and GenerateBlocks Pro appear there. Appearance, then Themes, shows Divi, Hello Elementor or GeneratePress. A licence sits in whichever account bought it, often your developer's, so ask whose account holds each key and get the answer in an email. Or send us your URL on WhatsApp for a free check.

Can you fix or take over a WordPress site another developer built?

Yes. Send a screenshot and the URL, create a temporary Administrator account for us, and invite us through your host's user system rather than sharing passwords. We look for free and reply with one AUD price. For a takeover, recover the domain registrar, hosting, admin and licence keys, in that order. A 20-minute fix may be cheaper on Airtasker, and we'll say so.
