Tally and GST E-Invoicing in Your ERP
Two questions every ERP buyer asks first: will my CA still use Tally, and will my invoices meet the e-invoice rules?
Keep Tally for your accounts
We import your ledgers, parties and items from Tally at the start. After that, the ERP pushes sales and purchase vouchers to TallyPrime, so your CA keeps working in Tally as before. Tally's own documentation lists TDL, XML, JSON, ODBC and HTTP as ways to integrate with TallyPrime.
Or replace Tally later
Once the ERP holds sales, purchase and stock, the accounts can move into it too. We suggest that only when your CA agrees.
Ask about an ERP that works with your TallyE-invoice and e-way bill rules
- E-invoicing applies to your B2B invoices once your aggregate turnover crossed ₹5 crore in any financial year from 2017-18 onwards (Notification 10/2023-Central Tax, from 1 August 2023).
- From 1 April 2025, if your AATO is ₹10 crore or more, the IRP will not accept an invoice, credit note or debit note more than 30 days after its date.
- The ERP sends each invoice to the Invoice Registration Portal (IRP), stores the IRN and signed QR code it returns, and prints both on the invoice.
- An e-way bill is needed when goods worth more than ₹50,000 move (Rule 138, CGST Rules). The ERP can raise it from the same invoice. States can exempt some movement within the state, so check your state’s rule.
- HSN codes on invoices: at least 6 digits if your AATO is above ₹5 crore, at least 4 digits on B2B invoices otherwise (Notification 78/2020-Central Tax).
- The ERP connects to the IRP through a GST Suvidha Provider (GSP) or the portal’s own API, depending on what your business is eligible for. We set this up with you.
A few kinds of business are exempt from e-invoicing, so confirm your own case with your CA.

A made-up example, not a client case study
A Lucknow distributor has 2 godowns and 12 staff. Phase 1 covers GST billing with WhatsApp payment reminders, stock in both godowns and vouchers pushed to Tally; the salesman app comes in phase 2. Say the quote for this first phase comes to ₹2,40,000 (a round figure to show how the payments split, not a quote for this scope). It is paid like this:

How much does ERP software cost in India?
It depends on whether you rent, buy ready-made or build. Is ERP software free?
Some is. ERPNext and Odoo Community are open source and free to run on your own server, but hosting, setup, data migration, training and changes still cost money or staff time.
Can the ERP work with Tally?

Do I need GST e-invoicing?
Yes, if your aggregate turnover crossed ₹5 crore in any financial year from 2017-18: your B2B invoices then need an IRN from the Invoice Registration Portal (Notification 10/2023-Central Tax). At an AATO of ₹10 crore and above, invoices must reach the IRP within 30 days of their date. Some businesses are exempt, so confirm with your CA.
Which are the main ERP vendors in India?
