ERP Software Development Cost India 2026: ₹4L-₹1.2Cr (Honest
ERP Software Development Cost India 2026: The Honest Build vs Buy Guide
If you are evaluating ERP in 2026, you are choosing between four real paths — Tally + Zoho duct-tape (₹50K-₹4L/year), Odoo or Zoho One (₹1.5L-₹18L/year), SAP Business One (₹14L-₹40L upfront + ₹6-12L/year), or a fully custom build (₹4L-₹1.2Cr+ upfront). Make the wrong call and you burn ₹20L-₹3Cr over five years on a system your team quietly abandons.
I am Ashish Sharma, founder of Codingclave. We have shipped 14+ ERP systems for Indian businesses since 2019 — pharma distributors, garment manufacturers, electronics wholesalers, ed-tech operators, and one 240-user textile group with three plants. This guide is the founder-to-founder cost breakdown I wish someone had handed me before I built my first ERP in 2019.
TL;DR — ERP Cost by Business Profile (India 2026)
| Business profile | SaaS annual cost | Custom build upfront | Best path 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo / 1-10 users, simple trade | ₹50K-₹2.5L (Tally + Zoho Books) | ₹4L-₹6L | Stay SaaS |
| SME 10-30 users, single location | ₹1.5L-₹6L (Zoho One, Odoo Community) | ₹4.5L-₹10L | SaaS or Odoo Community |
| Mid-size 30-80 users, 2-3 branches | ₹6L-₹22L (Odoo Enterprise, Zoho One) | ₹10L-₹28L | Custom usually wins on TCO |
| Manufacturer 80-200 users, MRP-heavy | ₹15L-₹45L (SAP B1, Odoo) | ₹26L-₹65L | Custom wins on fit + cost |
| Enterprise 200-500 users, multi-plant | ₹40L-₹2Cr+ (SAP B1, S/4HANA, Oracle) | ₹65L-₹1.2Cr+ | Custom or SAP, depending on global footprint |
| Conglomerate 500+ users, multi-country | ₹1.5Cr-₹8Cr (S/4HANA, Oracle Fusion) | ₹1.2Cr-₹4Cr+ | Tier-1 SaaS usually wins |
The honest crossover: under 30 users you almost always lose money building custom. Over 80 users you almost always lose money staying on SaaS. The 30-80 user band is where most Indian businesses live, and where the build vs buy decision is genuinely hard.

Path 1 — SaaS ERP (Zoho, Odoo, SAP B1): What You Really Pay in 2026
Indian SaaS ERP pricing has tightened in 2026 as Zoho pushes hard on bundle pricing and Odoo localizes more deeply.
Zoho One (most popular for Indian SMEs in 2026): approximately ₹1,250/user/month for the All-Employee plan, ₹2,500/user/month for the Flexible-User plan. A 30-user company pays around ₹4.5L/year on All-Employee — covers 50+ apps including Books, Inventory, CRM, People, Desk. The honest catch: deep customization is limited, multi-state GSTIN handling needs manual workarounds for some workflows, and once you cross 80-100 users the per-user math gets painful.
Zoho ERP standalone (newer, launched 2025-26): about ₹2,999/user/month in India. Targets businesses that want ERP-only without the wider Zoho suite. Good fit for 10-50 user manufacturing/trading firms. SAP-style features at SaaS pricing.
Odoo Enterprise: roughly ₹2,000-2,500/user/month for all-app access plus implementation. A 30-user team pays ₹7-9L/year in license alone, plus ₹3L-₹18L one-time implementation. Odoo Community is free to self-host — many of our clients run Community for 1-3 years before moving to Enterprise or custom. Honest tradeoff: Odoo's Indian localization (GST, e-invoicing, e-way bills) is solid but lags 4-8 weeks behind regulatory changes; you will sometimes patch manually.
SAP Business One (for serious mid-market manufacturers): starts around ₹6-8L/year for 25 users on Cloud, plus ₹8-15L implementation by an SAP partner. Heavier on-premise deployments hit ₹18-40L upfront. Honest take: SAP B1 is genuinely strong for export-heavy manufacturers and businesses planning IPO/audit-grade compliance. Overkill for ₹2-15Cr domestic trade.
Tally Prime + Zoho duct-tape: still the most common Indian stack under ₹5Cr revenue. Tally Prime: ₹22-65K one-time, ₹4-12K/year renewal. Add Zoho Books or Inventory for ₹15-40K/user/year. Total under ₹3L/year for 10-15 users. Works until you hit multi-warehouse, multi-GSTIN, or field-sales app needs.
Path 2 — Custom ERP Build: Real Cost by Component
When SaaS hits the ceiling, custom ERP gives you exact-fit workflows, full data ownership, and (often) lower 5-year TCO. Here is the honest cost breakdown by component, based on 14 deployments since 2019.
Frontend (web admin + dashboards)
React/Next.js or Vue-based ERP frontend with role-based access, responsive design, complex form workflows: ₹3L-₹14L depending on number of screens (25-200+) and depth of interactions.
Backend (APIs, business logic, RBAC)
Node.js/NestJS, Django, or Laravel backend with multi-tenant capability, RBAC, audit logging, workflow engine: ₹4L-₹22L depending on module count and business-rule complexity.
Database + data layer
PostgreSQL or MySQL with proper schema design for multi-company, multi-currency, multi-warehouse, time-series financial data, audit trails: ₹1.5L-₹6L including migration scripts from Tally/Excel/legacy.
Mobile apps (iOS + Android)
React Native or Flutter apps for field sales, warehouse picking, manager approvals, attendance: ₹4L-₹16L for both platforms, depending on offline-first complexity.
Core module set (out of 12-20 modules)
| Module | Build cost range | Build time |
|---|---|---|
| Finance + GST + ledgers | ₹2.5L-₹7L | 3-5 weeks |
| GST e-invoicing + IRP integration | ₹60K-₹1.5L | 1-2 weeks |
| E-way bill generation | ₹40K-₹1L | 1 week |
| Sales + quotation + invoicing | ₹1.5L-₹4L | 2-3 weeks |
| Purchase + vendor + PO approval | ₹1.5L-₹4L | 2-3 weeks |
| Inventory + multi-warehouse + batch | ₹2.5L-₹7L | 3-5 weeks |
| HRMS + attendance + leave | ₹2L-₹5L | 2-4 weeks |
| Payroll + PF/ESI/PT/TDS | ₹2L-₹6L | 3-5 weeks |
| Manufacturing + BOM + MRP | ₹4L-₹14L | 5-8 weeks |
| Production planning + job cards | ₹3L-₹10L | 4-6 weeks |
| CRM + lead-to-cash | ₹2L-₹6L | 2-4 weeks |
| Project + timesheet | ₹2L-₹5L | 2-4 weeks |
| BI dashboards + custom reports | ₹2L-₹8L | 3-5 weeks |
| Multi-company + multi-currency | ₹1.5L-₹4L | 2-3 weeks |
| WhatsApp Business integration | ₹60K-₹2L | 1-2 weeks |
Integrations layer (the budget killer)
Each external integration adds 18-30% to base build cost. See the FAQ for the full breakdown — Tally, GSTN, Razorpay, banks, marketplaces, logistics, WhatsApp.
Hosting + DevOps
AWS/Azure production setup with auto-scaling, daily backups, DR, monitoring: ₹15K-₹2L/month depending on load. Setup + IaC: ₹1L-₹4L one-time.
Hidden Costs Most Indian Buyers Miss
I have watched founders go ₹6-18L over budget on ERP because the proposal hid these line items. Build them into your 2026 budget.
- Data migration from Tally/Excel/legacy — ₹1.5L-₹6L. Old Tally databases are messy; SKU master cleanup alone takes 3-5 weeks.
- Staff training + change management — ₹1L-₹4L. Sales teams, warehouse operators, accountants all need 4-12 hours of structured training plus 6-12 weeks of hand-holding.
- Annual maintenance contract (AMC) — 12-22% of build cost per year. Covers bug fixes, regulatory updates (GST rate changes, e-invoicing schema updates), minor features.
- Regulatory updates — GST schema changes, TDS section additions, DPDP Act compliance updates. Budget ₹1.5-4L/year for serious changes.
- Server scaling — once you cross 80-100 concurrent users, hosting bills jump 2-4x. Plan for ₹50K-₹2L/month at scale.
- Mobile app store fees + Apple/Google certs — ₹10K-₹50K/year ongoing.
- Custom report builder added later — ₹2L-₹8L. Every CFO wants a custom MIS dashboard six months in.
- Backup, DR, and security audit — ₹1.5L-₹5L/year for serious workloads. SOC 2-style audits cost ₹4-12L if needed.
Total hidden-cost overhead: budget 30-45% on top of the headline build number for year 1, and 18-26% of build cost annually thereafter.
Cost by Feature Tier — Basic, Advanced, Enterprise
Basic ERP (₹4L-₹9L, 10-14 weeks)
For: 5-25 user trading or service businesses, single location, single GSTIN. Includes: Finance, GST, sales, purchase, inventory, basic HRMS, web only, single-tenant. Skips: Manufacturing, multi-warehouse, mobile apps, BI dashboards.

Includes: All of basic plus manufacturing-lite/MRP, multi-warehouse, multi-GSTIN, payroll, CRM, mobile app, WhatsApp integration, BI dashboards. Skips: Multi-company consolidation, advanced production planning, ML forecasting.
Enterprise ERP (₹28L-₹1.2Cr+, 24-60 weeks)

Includes: Everything in advanced plus multi-company consolidation, full MRP with capacity planning, advanced BOM with sub-contracting, multi-currency, ML demand forecasting, dedicated mobile apps per role, deep BI/data warehouse, white-glove deployment per plant.
Real Anonymized Example — ₹19.4L Mid-Size Manufacturer ERP
A Noida-based auto-components manufacturer, 68 employees across HQ + plant + warehouse, ₹38Cr revenue, was running Tally Prime + 7 separate Excel sheets + a 4-year-old half-built Odoo Community deployment that no one trusted. They came to us in mid-2025.
Scope shipped in 19 weeks:

ROI 9 months in: Tally + Excel + Odoo licenses retired saving ₹4.8L/year; bookkeeper team rebalanced freeing 2.2 FTE (₹14L/year); inventory writeoffs dropped from 5.8% to 1.4% on ₹14Cr inventory base saving ₹6.2L/year; GST compliance penalties dropped from ₹2.4L (FY24) to zero. Break-even hit month 16.
When to Build Custom vs When to Stay on SaaS
Stay on SaaS (Zoho One / Odoo / Tally + add-ons) if:
- Under 30 users with broadly standard workflows
- Revenue under ₹12Cr and growing under 40%/year
- Single GSTIN, 1-2 warehouses, no field-sales mobile need
- You do not have a tech-savvy founder or CTO who will defend the project for 6-12 months
- You want live in 4-10 weeks, not 14-40 weeks
Build custom (₹10L-₹70L tier) if:
- 30-200 users with at least 3 of: multi-warehouse, multi-GSTIN, field sales, manufacturing/MRP, marketplace integration, regional bank integration
- Revenue above ₹15Cr with clear visibility to ₹40Cr+
- Your industry workflow is genuinely unique (pharma batch tracking, garment size-curve, electronics serial tracking, ed-tech multi-batch)
- You want full data ownership and 5-year TCO at 50-70% of SaaS equivalent
- You have a founder/CTO who will own the deployment internally
Go enterprise SAP/Oracle (₹1Cr+ tier) if:
- 500+ users, multi-country, IPO-track or audit-graded compliance
- Genuine need for SAP-grade manufacturing depth (process industries, complex sub-contracting)
- Budget for ₹40L-₹2Cr/year ongoing license + support
The honest truth: 70-80% of Indian SMEs we talk to are best served by either SaaS or our mid-tier custom build (₹10L-₹28L). Only 10-15% genuinely need full enterprise. Anyone selling you SAP for a ₹20Cr trading business is selling, not advising.
