Who is buying
Lucknow had about 2.8 million people at the 2011 Census, spread over a Nagar Nigam with 8 zones and 110 wards. It is not one market. The buyers I meet fall into a few clusters, and each wants a different site.

UP counted 18,568 recognised startups by December 2025, and in August 2026 the state cabinet picked Lucknow and Noida for its two deep-tech U-Hubs. Startups are the fastest-moving buyers here, and they want React or Next.js, not WordPress.
Things that change what we build
Chikankari and zardozi are ODOP products. The UP government lists both as Lucknow's One District One Product crafts, and chikankari has held a GI tag since December 2008. Exporters in Chowk ask us to make that visible to foreign buyers and to keep the site light enough for a slow phone.
UP RERA is strict about advertising. Its December 2023 directions name websites and property portals among the media where the registration number and the UP RERA portal must be quickly readable, and from July 2024 the project QR code has to appear on all promotional material. Most builder sites I have looked at in Gomti Nagar still bury this in a footer.
Government and institutional sites follow GIGW. GIGW 3.0 is the current standard, and STQC issues the Certified Quality Website (CQW) mark for sites that meet it. We built the government polytechnic websites listed above, so a department or an AKTU-affiliated college (AKTU, headquartered here, lists 758 of them) will not have to explain accessibility or Hindi content to us from scratch.
Trade compliance shapes B2B sites. UP's intra-state e-way bill threshold has been Rs 50,000 since December 2017, so wholesale buyers in Yahiyaganj and the industrial areas ask for invoice and dispatch features more than they ask for design. The UP Shops and Commercial Establishments (Amendment) Act 2025, in force from 19 November 2025, applies to establishments with 20 or more workers and is registered fully online, which is one less reason for a small shop to delay going digital.
Healthcare is a real segment here. Medanta Lucknow and the 330-bed Apollomedics anchor a hospital belt around Shaheed Path and Kanpur Road, and the clinics around them want appointment booking and doctor profiles, with Hindi text for patients coming in from Barabanki, Sitapur and Rae Bareli.
How we actually work with Lucknow clients
Most of our Lucknow projects run on WhatsApp, same as our clients outside UP. People do walk in for government tenders and final sign-offs, but the day-to-day is voice notes, screenshots and a staging link you get in the first week to show your partner or CA.
Where a local vendor is the better pick: if you want one person to also do signage, printing, CCTV and office Wi-Fi, the computer shops in Aliganj and Hazratganj bundle all of it and we do not. If your whole business is a one-page Hindi site with your number on it, a freelancer will do it below our floor price and that is fine. We earn our fee on anything with logins, payments, compliance text, or a server that must stay up on AKTU result day or during a Diwali sale.
One note on timing. Lucknow offices slow down for Holi week, the Diwali fortnight and March exams, and so do approvals. For a festival sale, start six weeks out, not two.

- I sell chikan and zardozi from Chowk. Do I need a full online store or just a catalogue site?
- Start with a catalogue and WhatsApp ordering, not a cart. Most chikan buyers I have met in Lucknow, whether a boutique in Delhi or an NRI customer, want to see fabric close-ups, ask about sizes and pay on UPI or bank transfer after a chat. A proper store with payment gateway makes sense once you have repeat retail orders every day. Chikankari is GI-tagged since 2008 and is one of Lucknow's two ODOP products, so I put that on the home page in plain words, with an About page on the karigars. Hindi plus English, and photos shot in daylight, matter more than animations.
- We are a builder with projects on Sultanpur Road and Shaheed Path. What does UP RERA need on our website?
- Since December 2023, UP RERA's standard directions say the RERA registration number and the UP RERA portal name must be quickly readable in every advertisement, and websites and property portals are named explicitly. From July 2024 the project QR code has to appear on all promotional material too. So on a Lucknow builder site I put the registration number, the portal reference and the QR code in the project header, not in a grey footer line. I also build a per-project page so each registration maps to one URL, which makes the QR code useful. The legal text itself should come from your RERA consultant.
- Our Lucknow startup is applying under UP Startup Policy 2026. Can you build something quick that still looks credible?
- Yes, and quick is the right instinct. The 2026 policy raised the sustenance allowance to Rs 20,000 a month for two years and seed funding to Rs 15 lakh, and the prototype grant to Rs 10 lakh, so most founders I talk to want a landing page plus a working MVP, not a brochure. I usually do a one-page site with a waitlist form and a demo video in week one, then put the money into the product. Hosting on Vercel or a small VPS keeps the monthly cost near zero while you wait on approvals. Check your incubator's exact document list before paying anyone for a site.
