Gupshup WhatsApp Pricing India 2026: Real Costs Audited
Gupshup WhatsApp Pricing: The Honest 2026 Breakdown
Gupshup is the enterprise heavyweight of Indian WhatsApp Business API — Tiger Global-backed, banking the country's biggest banks, fintechs, and D2C brands. But Gupshup also has a reputation for opaque pricing, sudden cost increases, and being overkill for SMBs.
If you searched "Gupshup WhatsApp pricing" you've probably already noticed: Gupshup does not publish a clean pricing table. You get a "Request demo" CTA and vague language about "pay-as-you-go." This page exists to give you the real numbers — what I've seen across 100+ WhatsApp integrations we've shipped at Codingclave, cross-checked against Meta's official India rate card, Gupshup's own support docs, and recent (2025-2026) BSP market data.
I'm Ashish Sharma, founder of Codingclave — we're a Lucknow-based product engineering studio that ships WhatsApp Business API integrations across India. Here's everything you need to know before you fund that Gupshup wallet.
TL;DR — Gupshup India Pricing at a Glance
| Component | Rate (2026) |
|---|---|
| Gupshup BSP fee per template/session message | $0.001 (~₹0.085) |
| Meta marketing message (India) | ₹0.7846 – ₹0.88 |
| Meta utility message (India) | ₹0.115 – ₹0.125 (free in 24-hour window) |
| Meta authentication message (India) | ₹0.115 – ₹0.125 |
| Meta service message (user-initiated) | Free |
| Free service conversations / month | 1,000 (per WABA) |
| Gupshup voice call fee | $0.0001 / second |
| Self-serve setup / monthly subscription | ₹0 (wallet pre-pay) |
| Enterprise managed plan minimum | ₹4,000 – ₹15,000+/mo |
| Setup / maintenance fees (self-serve) | None |
Real-world total for an Indian D2C brand sending 10,000 marketing + 5,000 utility messages a month: roughly ₹10,500 – ₹13,000/month. Add ₹4K-15K if you're on a managed enterprise plan.
How Gupshup's Pricing Model Actually Works
Gupshup operates a two-layer pricing model:
- Meta WhatsApp fees — charged at actuals per Meta's India rate card, deducted from your wallet per message.
- Gupshup BSP platform fee — a flat $0.001 (~₹0.085) added on top of every template and session message you send, plus a $0.0001/second fee on voice calls.
There is no monthly subscription on the self-serve tier as of 2026. You sign up via Gupshup's portal (Google/Facebook/GitHub OAuth or email), verify your WABA through Meta Business Manager, fund your wallet, and start sending. Gupshup deducts per-message charges from your wallet in real time.
Important shift in 2025: Meta retired the old "per 24-hour conversation" pricing model on July 1, 2025, and moved to per-message billing. Gupshup followed. This means every outbound template message is now billed individually — not bundled into a 24-hour conversation window. Authentication and utility templates also got telescopic volume tiers (rates decrease as monthly volume increases), but marketing has no volume discount.
Plan-by-Plan Breakdown
1. Gupshup Self-Serve (Pay-as-you-go)
Monthly subscription: ₹0 Per-message Gupshup fee: $0.001 (~₹0.085) flat Setup cost: ₹0 Best for: Startups, SMBs testing the channel, dev teams who want zero commitment
This is what most brands actually use. You fund a wallet, send messages, and get billed per message. No minimum spend, no monthly contract, no setup fee. The trade-off: support is community-tier (slower response), no dedicated account manager, no negotiated volume pricing.
2. Gupshup Enterprise / Managed
Monthly minimum commit: ~₹4,000 – ₹15,000+ depending on volume tier Per-message rate: Negotiated, typically lower than self-serve at 100K+ messages/month Setup: Managed onboarding included; green tick application supported Best for: Banks, fintech, regulated industries, brands sending 100K+ messages/month
Pricing is opaque and negotiated case-by-case. This is where Gupshup's APAC carrier relationships and bank-grade compliance posture pay off. If you're a fintech that needs ISO 27001, SOC 2, and direct India MSP carrier routing, this is where Gupshup beats WATI/Interakt/AiSensy outright.
3. Gupshup AI Agent / Vertical Add-ons
Gupshup also sells AI Agent Studio and vertical solutions (BFSI, retail, healthcare) layered on top. These are priced per-seat or per-conversation on top of the BSP fees. Pricing is not public — quote-only.
For most brands we work with, layering our own AI chatbot using OpenAI or Claude on top of the raw Gupshup BSP is cheaper, more flexible, and better-controlled than buying Gupshup's vertical bundles.
Meta's Underlying India Per-Message Rates (The Numbers Gupshup Passes Through)
Effective July 1, 2025 (and largely stable through 2026 with a ~10% marketing rate increase in early 2026):
| Category | India Rate (INR/message) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing | ₹0.7846 – ₹0.88 | No volume discount; charged on every delivery |
| Utility | ₹0.115 – ₹0.125 | Free if sent inside the 24-hour user-initiated service window; telescopic volume tiers |
| Authentication | ₹0.115 – ₹0.125 | OTPs, 2FA, login codes; telescopic volume tiers |
| Service | Free | User-initiated, response within 24-hour window |
These rates are passed through directly by every BSP — Gupshup, WATI, Interakt, AiSensy all charge the same Meta fees. The difference is only in the BSP markup layer on top, plus platform features and support quality.
Hidden Costs and Gotchas
What Gupshup's pricing page doesn't tell you:
-
Wallet pre-pay locks up cash. You fund the wallet upfront. Unused balance sits idle (not refunded). Plan wallet top-ups to match actual sending volume.
-
Voice calls billed separately at $0.0001/second. If you use WhatsApp Voice (newer feature), budget for it.
-
Unannounced price changes. Multiple G2 and SelectHub reviews flag "sudden price increases without prior notice." Set up wallet balance alerts; review monthly invoices.
-
Enterprise minimums are not waivable. If you sign a managed enterprise plan and don't hit the volume, you still pay the minimum commit.
-
Green tick / business verification may be billed separately on the managed tier — confirm in your quote.
-
Template rejections cost you nothing, but rejected campaign templates delay revenue. Gupshup's template approval support is solid but slower than WATI's.
-
Carrier surcharges in some Tier-2 / Tier-3 city corridors can apply on certain operator routes. Rare, but watch month-end invoices.
Gupshup vs WATI vs Interakt vs AiSensy — Real Cost Comparison
For a D2C brand sending 30,000 conversations/month (mixed marketing/utility):
| Provider | Platform Fee | Per-Conversation Markup | Total Estimated Bill |
|---|---|---|---|
| AiSensy | ₹999/mo | ₹0.20 (Pro) | ~₹21,500 |
| Interakt | ₹2,142-6,963/mo | ₹0.20-0.40 | ~₹25,900 |
| WATI | ₹2,499-9,999/mo | ₹0.30-0.85 | ~₹26,500 |
| Gupshup (self-serve) | ₹0 | $0.001 (~₹0.085)/msg | ~₹26,000 |
| Gupshup (enterprise) | ₹4,000-15,000+/mo | Negotiated lower | ~₹30,000-38,000 |
| Direct Meta Cloud API | ₹0 | ₹0 BSP markup | ~₹19,000 + ₹1.5L-5L dev cost |
Verdict: Gupshup self-serve is cost-competitive with AiSensy and WATI at mid volumes. Gupshup wins at 100K+ messages/month thanks to enterprise volume discounts. For pure broadcast under 30K msgs/month, AiSensy is cheapest. For Shopify D2C, Interakt's deep native integration usually wins on total cost-to-value. | Regulated industry (healthcare, BFSI, government) | Yes |

What Real Customers Are Saying
Across 200+ Gupshup reviews on G2 and SelectHub (2025-2026):
The praise:
- "Reliable platform, scales to millions of messages without dropping"
- "APAC carrier coverage is best-in-class — we ship across India, Indonesia, Vietnam without re-architecting"
- "Their enterprise support is responsive once you're on a managed plan"
The complaints:
- "Pricing can be on the higher side… less accessible for small to medium-sized businesses." (G2)
- "Sudden increase in price without any prior notice." (multiple reviews)
- "WhatsApp Channel UX is non-intuitive and painful — campaign creation, sending and follow-up involve several hurdles."
- "Support response is very slow on the self-serve tier."
This matches what we've seen at Codingclave: Gupshup is rock-solid at enterprise volume but rough around the edges for SMBs. If you're under 30K messages/month and want a polished UI, you'll be happier elsewhere.

Codingclave's Take
If you're an Indian D2C brand, EdTech, or service business doing under 30K messages/month, Gupshup is usually not the answer. AiSensy's ₹999/month, Interakt's Shopify-native flows, or WATI's CRM-heavy Agent Inbox will get you live faster, cost less per month, and require less wrestling with the UI.
If you're a bank, fintech, or 100K+ messages/month enterprise — Gupshup is hard to beat. The carrier relationships, the compliance posture, the APAC reach, and the negotiated volume discounts all stack up. Just go in eyes-open on the pricing opacity and set up monthly invoice audits.
Either way: the BSP is only 30% of the equation. The other 70% is template design, opt-in flow, segmentation, AI chatbot quality, and CRM integration. That's where we spend our energy at Codingclave. The BSP layer is a commodity once you're routed right.
