What a Shopify Build Covers
Everything an Indian seller needs to take the first order, set up and tested before launch.
A store in your name
Your Shopify account, products and customer data stay in your name, and any custom code we write is yours on final payment, so you are never tied to us for later changes. A paid theme is licensed to your store by its maker.
Theme set up for your brand
A free Shopify theme such as Dawn, or a paid one from the Shopify Theme Store if you want a particular look. Logo, colours, fonts, home page sections and menus set up.
Products, collections and variants
Products uploaded with sizes, colours, prices, stock and photos, and grouped into collections so customers can browse. Large catalogues go in by CSV.
Razorpay plus cash on delivery
Razorpay (or Cashfree or PayU) for UPI, cards and netbanking, and cash on delivery with the limits you want, such as a maximum order value, using an app where Shopify needs one.
Shiprocket shipping
Orders flow to Shiprocket for courier choice, shipping labels and tracking. The Shiprocket app has a free plan; courier charges are separate.
GST invoices and HSN codes
Shopify does not create GST-compliant bills, so we add a GST invoice app and enter your HSN codes in Shopify’s “HS tariff code” field.
WhatsApp order updates
Order confirmed, shipped and delivered messages on WhatsApp, through a Shopify app or a WhatsApp API provider, so customers know where their parcel is.
Redirects and basic SEO
Page titles and descriptions, image alt text, redirects from your old website’s links, and your sitemap submitted in Google Search Console.
Training before handover
A session for you or your team on adding products, handling orders, returns and COD, so you can run the store yourself from day one.

Why Shopify takes a cut of prepaid orders
Shopify Payments is not offered in India: India is not on Shopify’s list of 41 supported countries. So every UPI, card or netbanking order goes through a third-party gateway such as Razorpay, and Shopify charges the fee in the last column of the table.
Cash on delivery
COD is a “manual payment” in Shopify, and Shopify says it does not charge third-party transaction fees on manual payments. So your COD orders carry no Shopify cut.
Razorpay’s own fee
2% per domestic transaction (2.15% on corporate and business credit cards), plus 18% GST on that fee (not on the order). ₹0 setup fee and ₹0 annual charge on Razorpay’s standard plan.
GST on your Shopify bill
Shopify adds GST to its fees for stores in India unless you add your GSTIN in Settings > Billing. Adding it only stops GST on bills issued after that date.

What a Small Shopify Store Costs to Run
The plan price is only part of it. Here is the monthly sum for an imaginary seller, using the fees above.
Made-up example
A Lucknow chikankari seller with 60 products gets 100 orders a month at an average of ₹1,200 each, so ₹1,20,000 in sales. 60% of orders are cash on delivery (₹72,000) and 40% are prepaid through Razorpay (₹48,000). The store is on Shopify Basic, billed yearly.

When does the Grow plan pay off?
Grow costs ₹4,100 a month more than Basic on yearly billing (₹5,599 against ₹1,499) but takes 1% less of each prepaid order. The two even out at about ₹4.1 lakh of prepaid sales a month, or about ₹5.45 lakh on monthly billing. Below that, Basic is cheaper. Send us your own order numbers and we will run this sum for you.
When Shopify Is the Wrong Choice
Shopify fits best when you want to launch fast and would rather not look after hosting or plugin updates. If another platform suits you better, we will say so.

We follow the order Shopify's own migration guide sets out, then reconnect the Indian setup.
The steps
- 1Import products first, then customers, then past orders, as Shopify’s migration guide says. We use CSV files or Shopify’s Store Migration app.
- 2Turn off staff “new order” emails before importing past orders, or your team gets one email for every old order.
- 3Check every imported product for missing details, failed variants and items left unpublished.
- 4Set up URL redirects (Shopify can import them from a CSV) before the domain switch, so old Google links and bookmarks land on the right page.
- 5Reconnect Razorpay, Shiprocket and WhatsApp order updates, then place a test order to re-check the GST invoice.
- 6Switch the domain, then open your most-visited old links to confirm each one redirects.

How much does a Shopify developer charge in India?
Prices published by Indian agencies, checked on 16 October 2026, start around ₹20,000 for a basic Shopify setup and go past ₹1.5 lakh for a custom store; one agency guide lists junior freelancers at ₹500 to ₹1,500 an hour. Codingclave builds Shopify stores from ₹50,000, as a fixed price once the scope is agreed, paid 40% at the start, 40% at an agreed mid-project milestone and 20% at launch. Shopify’s own plan (from ₹1,499 a month billed yearly) and any app fees are billed to you separately by Shopify and the app makers.
Does Shopify take ₹5,000 a month?
No plan costs ₹5,000. Shopify Basic is ₹1,994 a month billed monthly, or ₹1,499 a month billed yearly. The nearest plan to ₹5,000 is Grow at ₹5,599 a month billed yearly (₹7,447 billed monthly). How much is a 1-year Shopify plan in India?

Does Razorpay work with Shopify, and does Shopify charge extra on those orders?
Yes, Razorpay connects to Shopify through its own Shopify app. Because Shopify Payments is not offered in India, Shopify charges its third-party fee on every Razorpay order: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. Razorpay’s own fee is 2% plus 18% GST on that fee. So a ₹1,000 prepaid order on Basic costs ₹20 to Shopify and ₹23.60 to Razorpay, ₹43.60 in all, before GST on Shopify’s fee.
Can I offer cash on delivery on my Shopify store?
Yes. Shopify treats cash on delivery as a manual payment, and its help centre says it does not charge third-party transaction fees on manual payments, so COD orders carry no Shopify cut. Your courier collects the cash and pays it on to you. You can also set limits, such as no COD above a certain order value; where Shopify cannot do that on its own, we add an app for it.
Does Shopify give GST invoices?
No. Shopify’s India GST help page says Shopify does not create a GST-compliant bill, so you need a GST invoice app from the Shopify App Store or a local invoicing service. Your HSN codes go in Shopify’s HS tariff code field, which needs at least 6 digits. Shopify cannot show CGST and SGST as separate lines, so in-state sales use one combined tax rate. We set this up and check it with a test order before launch.

Can you move my WooCommerce store to Shopify without losing Google rankings?
We follow the order in Shopify’s migration guide (products, then customers, then orders) and set up URL redirects from your old links before the domain is switched, so Google and your customers land on the right pages. That protects your old links, but nobody can promise your rankings will not move during a switch, and we will not. Send your current store URL and we will tell you what moving it involves.
Is Shopify still worth it in 2026 for a small Indian seller?
Often, yes, if you want to launch quickly, would rather not look after hosting and plugin updates, and get many orders on cash on delivery, which carry no Shopify fee. The catch is the 2% Shopify takes on prepaid orders on Basic, on top of the gateway fee. If most of your orders are prepaid, or you already run WordPress, WooCommerce may cost less over a few years. We will tell you which fits after looking at your products and order mix.
Can my Shopify store send WhatsApp order updates?
Yes, through a Shopify app or a WhatsApp API provider: order confirmed, shipped and delivered messages. We sell one, PayPerWA, at ₹0.20 (US$0.004) per message on top of Meta’s charges. Meta also charges for these order-update messages, per message, at its rate for India; Meta’s non-template pricing page explains the rules that apply from 1 October 2026, including replies inside the 24-hour customer service window.
