Overview

We are not a Shopify Partner, so the work runs through your agency's Partner organization and collaborator access, or through a staff account your client adds. Each store is one fixed USD price, from $600 to $3,500, and your client never hears from us unless you ask.

Quick answer

How does white-label Shopify work with a team that isn't a Shopify Partner?

Your agency holds the Shopify Partner account and the client relationship, and our developers work as users of your organization. You request collaborator access to the client's store, or open a new store as a client transfer store, and we deliver on an unpublished theme with preview links for your team and your client. Before handover, the live test order is placed together. Pricing is per store in USD: $600–$1,200 for a theme setup, $1,200–$2,500 for a customized theme or a migration, $2,500–$3,500 for a custom theme, and $300 a month for store care.

  • Theme setups, custom themes, migrations and care
  • Built on an unpublished theme, reviewed by preview link
  • Code and IP pass to your agency on final payment
  • Free bug fixes for 6 months after launch

We are not a Shopify Partner: how agency work runs anyway

Shopify lets a developer into a store in two ways: a staff account on the store itself, or collaborator access requested from a Shopify Partner account. We have no Partner account of our own, so on agency jobs we work through yours, and your agency keeps the Partner relationship with Shopify and the record of who worked on each client store.

  • Add our developers as users of your organization

Shopify's help center has partner organizations add staff by creating user accounts in their organization settings, each with a role. Give our developers the role the job needs, and remove them when it closes. Access to every client store then runs through your organization's account, and nothing depends on an account we own.

  • Request collaborator access to the client’s store

Your agency sends the request from its dashboard with the merchant's 4-digit collaborator request code, and the merchant approves it. Per Shopify's developer docs, an organization must be at least 30 days old to send a request unless the store has set a code, the access covers the whole organization, and it lapses when nobody from the organization logs in for 90 days. Collaborators don't use the store's staff seats, so this route works on Basic too.

  • A new store: build it as a client transfer store

When the client has no store yet, your organization creates a client transfer store, we build in it, and you transfer it when it is ready. The client transfer docs set three things to plan around: real transactions don't run before the transfer, so the live test order comes after it; the client chooses a plan when accepting; and the store gets no free trial afterwards. Your organization keeps collaborator access once the store is transferred.

  • If your agency has no Partner account

Your client can add us as a staff member instead. That needs Grow or a higher plan, because Shopify allows no staff accounts on Basic or Starter; the Shopify store cost guide explains how a Basic store gets through its build month.

Shopify work you can hand us

These are the jobs we take on for agencies. Each comes back as a fixed USD price before any work starts.

  • Theme setup for a client store

A Theme Store theme dressed in the client's brand, products loaded from their spreadsheet, Shopify Payments, shipping and tax set up, and the refund, delivery, terms and contact pages in place.

  • Figma to a Liquid theme

A theme coded from your designer's file, with sections and blocks the client edits in the theme editor, metafields and metaobjects where product data needs them, and the code kept in your GitHub organization.

  • Apps, set up and cleaned up

Subscriptions, reviews, email, bundles or loyalty configured and tested against each other on the unpublished theme. When a client swaps one app for another, the old app's snippets come out of the theme too.

  • WooCommerce to Shopify

Products with their variants and images, customers and content pages moved across, every old address mapped to a 301 redirect, and the WooCommerce site left taking orders until the switch.

  • Speed work on slow stores

Oversized images, unused app scripts and heavy theme code trimmed, measured before and after with the same test so your client sees the change in numbers.

  • Changes between launches

New sections, campaign landing pages, seasonal banners and fixes, sent one job at a time and priced per job.

One store job, from your brief to your client’s launch

Every store job follows the same seven steps, whichever tier it sits in.

  • 1. Your brief

The design link, the client's store or plan, the apps and the launch date in Eastern or Pacific time, whichever your agency uses.

  • 2. A fixed USD quote

Within 24 hours, with what is excluded and the weeks the job takes.

  • 3. Access

Through your Partner organization, or a staff account on the client's store.

  • 4. The build

On an unpublished theme, synced to a branch in your GitHub organization if your team uses Shopify's GitHub integration.

  • 5. Preview links

For your own review first, then for your client's.

  • 6. The live test order

Placed together before handover, then refunded.

  • 7. Handover

The theme files, a list of every app with its monthly price, and our users removed when you close the job.

Two Shopify details shape the rhythm. Visitor preview links expire 2 days after they are created, according to the Shopify Help Center, so we send a fresh link with each update rather than one link for the whole job. And Shopify's GitHub integration accepts only members of your GitHub organization with write access, not outside collaborators (Shopify developer docs), so add our developers as members if the theme syncs to your repository.

Shopify launches on our working day, which is your night

Our hours, 10:00 to 19:00 IST from Monday to Saturday, run from late evening to early morning across the US. For Shopify work, that lines up with the moments when a store is most fragile. The table shows our day in each US zone.

  • Theme switches while shoppers sleep

Publishing a new theme, running a product import or changing checkout settings can be scheduled for our day, so anything that misbehaves shows up while US traffic is at its lowest and our team is still at work.

  • Your comments, our morning

Notes you leave on the preview by the end of your day are picked up at the start of ours, and the revised theme with a new preview link is usually waiting when your team signs in.

  • One clock on the job sheet

Every date in the quote, every review round and the test order are written in your agency's own time, whether that is Eastern, Central, Mountain or Pacific, so nobody on your side converts from IST.

  • Sundays and Indian holidays

We don't work on Sundays or Indian public holidays. Before you promise a client a launch date, ask which holidays fall inside the build.

Our per-store prices beside the hourly rates agencies see

Agencies ask two cost questions: what white label costs, and what a Shopify developer costs. The market answers in hourly rates. We quote per store, in USD, so the risk of a job running long sits with us, and your agency can price its client before any work starts.

Shopify work you can check, and why agency work isn’t on the list

Work we deliver for agencies carries the agency's name and no credit of ours, so none of it can be shown here. We don't name US clients or agencies on this page either. What you can check yourself:

  • A Shopify storefront you can open

richakhemka.com, the store of a Kolkata fashion label, is a Shopify storefront we worked on; the footer of the site credits Overnight Digital. It is a working store, so your team can test the product pages, the cart and the load time on its own phones.

  • Reviews on Upwork

5.0 from 35 Upwork reviews on our public profile, from clients who hired us there and paid through the platform.

  • WooCommerce, for agencies that run both

We also build WooCommerce stores, if your agency looks after WooCommerce clients and wants one team for both platforms. Our example, a pharmacy store for Anand Medico Chemist in India, has since been moved off WooCommerce, so it can't be opened today.

Running your own store rather than an agency?

This page is written for agencies that resell the work. If the store is yours, what it costs to have someone build a Shopify store prices the same tiers from the owner's side, with Shopify's fees plan by plan, what Shopify keeps from a $10 sale, and first-year totals for three example stores. For WordPress, WooCommerce or Next.js client sites, see white-label web development for US agencies.

Ask on WhatsApp (India)

How much does white label Shopify development cost?

With us, $600–$1,200 to set up a theme for a client store, $1,200–$2,500 for a customized theme with apps or a migration, and $2,500–$3,500 for a custom theme from your Figma file, each a fixed USD price per store. Care for a busy client store is $300 a month. Published market rates for the same work are hourly: Shopify developers in India showed about $10–$30 an hour on Upwork on October 25, 2026.

How much does it cost to hire a Shopify developer?

It depends on the route. Elsner's guide for US agencies, published June 15, 2026, puts offshore rates at $25–$60 an hour and senior or US-based developers at $75–$150 or more, with a dedicated developer at $2,500–$8,000 or more a month. A salaried developer adds benefits, equipment and management time on top. For a single client store, a fixed price per job is usually easier to resell than a bank of hours.

Do we need a Shopify Partner account to build our client's store?

Not strictly. Your client can add a developer as a staff member on Grow or a higher plan. A Partner account makes agency work easier, though: collaborator access works on every plan including Basic, doesn't use staff seats, and lets your agency build new stores as client transfer stores. Because we are not a Shopify Partner, we work through your agency's account when you have one, and through a staff account on the client's store when you don't.

Can you work inside our Shopify Partner organization?

Yes, and it is the setup most agency jobs use. Create user accounts for our developers in your organization settings with the role the job needs, request collaborator access to the client's store with their 4-digit code, and the work starts from there. Removing our users when the job closes leaves your own team's access as it was. Keep in mind that collaborator access lapses after 90 days without a login from your organization.

Can you migrate a client from WooCommerce to Shopify?

Yes. Products with their variants and images, customers and the content pages move across, every old product and page address gets a 301 redirect to its new Shopify address, and the WooCommerce site keeps taking orders until the switch, which can run on our working day while US shoppers sleep. Past orders move only when the client needs them, and the quote says so. A migration sits in the $1,200–$2,500 tier, depending on the size of the catalog.

Will AI replace Shopify developers?

Not for agency work yet. Shopify now spins up starter stores from a prompt and includes Sidekick, its AI assistant, on every plan (Shopify pricing), and AI tools write Liquid quickly. What they don't do is answer for the result: match a designer's file to the pixel, test a dozen apps together, map redirects without losing search traffic, or stand behind a live order. Routine setup is getting cheaper; your client still pays for judgment and accountability.

Will our client ever see your name on the store?

No. There is no credit, footer link or author tag of ours anywhere in the store, the theme's author field can carry your agency's name, and we only reply to your client if you ask us to. With collaborator access, the request reaches the merchant from your agency's organization, not from us. If the client asks who built the store, the answer is yours to give.
