Kerala set out to start one lakh new MSMEs in its 2022-23 Year of Enterprises and closed the year at 1,39,840, on about ₹8,422 crore of investment, according to the state's own dashboard. Most are tiny: a bakery, a tuition centre, a two-person travel desk. A shop with 800 contacts does not want a ₹2,000 monthly subscription.

Three clusters recur.

Thrissur gold. Around 3,000 gold ornament manufacturing units and 40,000-odd artisans work in and around Thrissur. Retail jewellers there run daily rate updates, Akshaya Tritiya and wedding-season offers, and gold scheme reminders. The FAQ below explains why the daily rate blast costs more than it looks.

Tourism in Ernakulam, Idukki and Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala recorded 2,22,46,989 domestic and 7,38,374 foreign tourist visits in 2024. Ernakulam alone had 43.3 lakh domestic and 2.69 lakh foreign visits. Resorts, houseboat operators and Ayurveda centres use utility templates for booking confirmations and pickup details, which cost ₹0.115 instead of ₹0.8631, and send marketing only to past guests before the season.

Gulf-facing businesses. The Kerala Migration Survey 2023 estimates 2.2 million emigrants from the state, 80.5% of them in GCC countries, with the UAE the top destination and Malappuram alone the origin of about 3,77,647 emigrants. Remittances reached ₹2,16,893 crore in 2023. Travel agencies, real estate developers and gold schemes in Kozhikode, Malappuram and Kollam want to message those customers abroad, at a different price (table below).

What the message really costs from Kerala

Meta's rupee rate card for Indian accounts, current from 1 October 2026, prices a marketing message to an Indian number at ₹0.8631 and utility or authentication at ₹0.115. The rate follows the country code of the number you message.

Add 18% GST on top of Meta's charge and on our ₹0.20 platform fee, so budget about ₹1.02 per delivered marketing message to a Kerala number before our fee. Also from 1 October 2026, Meta charges for free-form replies again beyond 1,000 service messages per business number per month, at ₹0.115 each for India. A busy Kochi clinic answering chats all day will cross 1,000.

Indian accounts have billed in rupees since 1 January 2026. Every account must be on INR by 31 December 2026 or Meta stops delivering from 1 January 2027. Older accounts move over through Meta's Currency Migration API; new accounts we open for Kerala clients start in INR.

Language and timing

Malayalam templates are submitted under their own language code (ml). Most Kerala clients run bilingual sets: Malayalam for retail customers, English for NRK and B2B lists.

Plan around Onam. Thiruvonam falls on 26 August 2026, with the ten days starting 16 August. Template approval can take a day or two and Meta's quality rating drops fast if you blast cold lists in festival week, so get Onam templates approved by early August and warm the list with an opt-in message first.
