Overview

Memberships, class packs and in-person PT can run through your own Telr, PayTabs, N-Genius or Stripe account; on-demand workouts and premium plans go through the stores, which keep 15% or 30%. We build for iOS and Android in Flutter or React Native: AED 17,000–108,000 excluding VAT, in 4–12 weeks. I'm Ashish Sharma; I price every project myself, and we build remotely from Lucknow, India.

Quick answer

How much does it cost to build a fitness app in Dubai?

Our list puts it at AED 17,000–108,000 excluding VAT, 4–12 weeks, one Flutter or React Native codebase for both stores. What moves it is content. A gym member app with class booking, checkout through your own gateway and a QR door pass sits near the bottom; a filmed workout library with offline download, live group streaming or a real watchOS app pushes it up. UAE gateway setup, in-app purchase with receipt checks and a link to your gym software are priced on top, after a short discovery call.

  • AED 17,000–108,000 excl. VAT, 4–12 weeks, both stores.
  • Memberships, class packs, in-person PT: your gateway, no store commission.
  • On-demand workouts and premium plans: in-app purchase at 15% or 30%.
  • A real watchOS app is native Swift, outside the shared code.

Which of your sales Apple and Google take a cut of, item by item

Apple requires, and Google allows, your own payment gateway for gym memberships, class packs and in-person PT, so neither store takes a commission. On-demand workouts and premium plans are digital and must use in-app purchase at 15% or 30%.

Apple's guideline 3.1.3(e) covers services used outside the app, which is where memberships and class visits fall. Google's Payments policy names "gym memberships" as exempt and "fitness" among subscriptions that must use Play Billing. IAP below means Apple or Google in-app purchase.

Apple keeps 15% under its Small Business Program if you enrol and earned up to USD 1 million last year, or are new to the App Store; otherwise the standard rate is 30%, and Apple's subscriptions page says your share rises from 70% to 85% after a subscriber's first paid year. Your company enrols, not us, because the app ships from your account. Google Play charges 15% on the first USD 1 million a year in its 15% tier, 30% above that, and 15% on auto-renewing subscriptions. Inside the app you cannot point UAE users to buying a digital item outside in-app purchase; a WhatsApp message or email to members is fine.

The code trap. Say you sell a "Home Programme" on your website for AED 199 and email buyers a code that switches it on in the app. That breaks 3.1.1, which bars QR codes and licence keys for opening paid features. Under 3.1.3(b), web buyers can sign into their account instead, if the programme is also on sale as an in-app purchase. A QR code that opens the gym door is fine.

The hybrid membership. A membership bundling a video library draws the most review questions. Sell the library as its own IAP tier, or keep it free to every account. That is my reading; App Review decides.

Send me your sales list on WhatsApp and I'll mark each line against this table.

Three kinds of fitness app, and what moves each quote

Our mobile-app list price is AED 17,000–108,000 excluding VAT, and payment routing moves a fitness quote more than any single feature. Yoga and Pilates studios, nutrition coaches, running clubs and corporate wellness all map onto one of these three shapes. For market-wide Dubai app price ranges, including Flutter versus React Native, see the Dubai app cost guide.

  • In-app purchase is the easy half

The purchase button is quick. The work sits on your server: validating receipts, tracking renewals and refunds, and giving members who paid at the desk or on the web the same access as app buyers. When that sync fails, a paying member finds their programme locked and messages your front desk, not Apple.

  • Live video, one-to-one or group

A one-to-one call is the smaller build and, under 3.1.3(d), can be paid through your gateway on iOS. A group stream needs scheduling and capacity limits, and Apple sends it through IAP. Unsure? Launch one-to-one first.

  • The gym software you already run

Ask your vendor first: is there an API for members and bookings, and does access cost extra? With one, the app reads plans and class slots from the system your desk uses. Without one, you get file exports or a second member database, and that can move a quote more than your feature list.

Three fitness app shapes, their core features and what moves the quote
App shapeWho it suitsCore featuresPayment routesWhat moves the quote
Gym or studio member appGym, studio, multi-branch chainClass booking and waitlist, renewals, check-in pass, push reminders, branch pickerYour gateway onlyWallet passes, gym-software link, branch count

Workout-subscription appContent brand, wellness start-upVideo library, offline download, streaks, IAP paywallIAP and Play BillingLibrary size, offline video, a watch app

One gym, one location? You may not need a custom app yet; the member app bundled with good gym software may do the job. The Dubai gym software guide covers that choice, and the gym and fitness management software page shows one packaged option.

What members open a gym app for, and what each part costs to build

Most members open a gym app at the turnstile. After that they check whether the workout on their watch counted, where they sit on the leaderboard and, twice a year, the new timetable. Each costs a different amount to build.

  • Door pass: in-app QR, Apple Wallet or Google Wallet

The cheapest pass is a QR code in the app that your door reader scans. A step up is an Apple Wallet pass, or a Google Wallet pass for Android members (Google lists membership cards under its Generic Pass), opened from the lock screen. What your reader scans decides which fits; turnstile hardware is in the gym software guide.

  • Apple Watch: reading workouts or a watch app

Usually members want the session closed on the watch to count in their history and on your leaderboard: a HealthKit read, and modest scope. Live heart-rate zones on the wrist need a watchOS app, written natively in Swift outside the shared Flutter or React Native code, which is why it moves the quote. Garmin, Fitbit, WHOOP and Strava data usually arrive through Apple Health, Health Connect or each vendor's API.

  • Challenges and streaks

Members already know DFC's 30x30: 30 minutes of activity a day for 30 days. Your app can run its own 30-day streak with team boards by branch. Nothing we build connects to the official programme or implies a link to it.

  • Ramadan and summer timetables

In Ramadan, class times shift around iftar and some studios add late-night slots; in the hottest months outdoor sessions move indoors. Timetable switching in the admin side lets staff publish a seasonal schedule in one step.

Publish under your gym’s Apple and Google accounts, even for a white-label app

A white-label app still ships from your account.

Apple guideline 4.2.6 rejects apps made from a commercialised template unless the content provider submits them. The vendor's only alternative is one "picker" app with your brand inside its listing. Guideline 4.3(a) rules out several Bundle IDs of one app, so a chain ships one app with a branch picker.

Apple enrols the legal entity, not a trade name, and the D-U-N-S number is the one step I can't speed up. So I ask for the application in week one, in your entity's name, while design starts. Google's 12-tester rule is written for personal accounts, another reason to register as an organisation.

The build price excludes Apple's USD 99 a year, Google's USD 25, gateway fees and hosting, all billed to your accounts. Every login is yours at the end. Ask which documents to gather first.

What you can and can’t do with members’ health data

Collect heart rate or progress photos and two sets of rules apply: Apple's and Google's, checked at review, and the UAE PDPL's consent standard.

Fitness data you might collect and the rule attached
DataRuleWhat we build
HealthKit workouts and heart rateApple 5.1.3: no advertising, marketing or data mining; no personal health data in iCloudServer-side storage, no ad SDKs on health screens
Health Connect dataPlay Health apps declaration (every Play app completes it); request only the data types your features needMinimal permissions
Calories, VO2 max and similarApple 1.4.1: disclose the method behind measurementsWording review before submission
Member accountApple 5.1.1(v): account deletion inside the appDelete-account flow
Personal data in generalUAE PDPL (Federal Decree-Law 45 of 2021): consent, where relied on, must be specific, clear and withdrawable. DIFC and ADGM have their own data lawsConsent screens, withdrawal in settings
Body weight and progress photosNo specific store rule; we treat them as sensitiveOpt-in, private by default

The PDPL excludes health data governed by its own legislation, and the status of its Executive Regulations is not settled, so we design to the consent standard rather than promise legal certainty. An app that gives clinical advice, or is run by a licensed health provider, is a healthcare app and needs its own legal advice.

Does a fitness app in the UAE need Arabic? Where it breaks on a workout screen

If your members include Arabic speakers, yes, and it has to hold up on the screens that move. We build Arabic right-to-left apps and run a bilingual QA pass before release.

  • Mirrored rings, bars and swipes

Progress rings fill the other way, charts read from the right, and swipe-to-next-exercise reverses. Timers get checked on a real phone mid-workout.

  • One rule for numerals

Western or Eastern Arabic digits for reps and timers: either works, mixing does not.

  • An exercise-name glossary

"Romanian deadlift" gets one approved Arabic name, reused on the workout card, video title and progress log.

  • Push and WhatsApp copy written in Arabic

A reminder machine-swapped into Arabic reads like one, so templates need copy written for Arabic readers.

  • Captions on workout video

English-recorded workouts need an Arabic caption file, timed to the moves.

We agree at scoping who writes the Arabic copy. The bilingual QA pass then checks it in context, on the device. For bilingual screen design, see UI/UX design in Dubai.

Too late for DFC 2026? Realistic launch dates

Dubai Fitness Challenge 2026, the 10th edition, runs from 31 October to 29 November 2026. A new app won't be in the stores in time: the build is 4–12 weeks, and App Review follows it.

This year, a web sign-up page and a WhatsApp trial-pass flow are the realistic tools; see website costs in Dubai and WhatsApp chatbot builds. Ask about a DFC 2026 sign-up flow and I'll say what it would take.

If you start in October 2026: realistic launch windows
App shapeBuild timeRealistic target
Lean member appLower end of 4–12 weeksJanuary 2027 new-year sign-ups
Coach appMiddle of the range, plus loading your first programmesJanuary to Ramadan 2027
Content app with a watch appUpper end, plus filming the libraryRamadan 2027 at the earliest, or DFC 2027 after a soft-launch season

Accounts run alongside design, never after it. Leave a review buffer too: a first submission that splits gateway and IAP sales is the kind most likely to come back with questions.

How to pick a fitness app developer in Dubai when few publish prices

Few developers in this market put a fitness app price on the page. These are the figures from the ones that do, as published on 12 Oct 2026.

Published fitness app prices for Dubai buyers, as of 12 Oct 2026
SourceWhat it publishesTimeline stated
Burj CodeStarter from AED 90K for one platform, Growth from AED 180K for iOS and Android, Enterprise from AED 350KAbout 8 weeks for a first version, 12–16 weeks for larger apps
InterexyLead-form budget from USD 50–100k (about AED 184,000 and up)6–12 months for a moderately complex app
CodingclaveAED 17,000–108,000 for iOS and Android from one codebase, excluding VAT4–12 weeks

Our range starts lower for two reasons, neither of them a smaller app. One Flutter or React Native codebase serves both stores, where the lowest published Dubai tier above covers one platform. And the team works remotely from Lucknow, with me scoping each project.

Prices only compare when scope does. Ask every vendor, us included, for written answers:

  1. Which of my items go to IAP? Each sales line marked, with the rule number.
  2. Whose developer accounts? Yours, with a D-U-N-S in your entity's name.
  3. Who validates receipts? A server-side job, not the app alone.
  4. Who does Arabic QA? A bilingual pass on real devices.
  5. Is the D-U-N-S in week one? It should run alongside design.
  6. What does post-launch cover? OS and store-policy updates, in writing. Ours starts with six months of free bug fixes.

Then ask for their reviews. Ours: 4.9 on Google (76 reviews), on our reviews page. Ready? Request a free quote.

What changes when your developer is in Lucknow

Codingclave Development LLP works from Lucknow, India, and works with UAE clients over WhatsApp messages, email and video calls. These are the questions worth asking any remote team before you sign. Our other UAE services are listed on the UAE hub.

  • Who you deal with

I scope, price and run every project myself. The public record is 4.9 on Google (76 reviews), 200+ projects since 2017 and Top Rated on Upwork. Before you pay for the build, you try a clickable English and Arabic design on your own phone.

  • The 1.5-hour time difference

I'm on WhatsApp from 08:30 to 17:30 Gulf Standard Time (10:00–19:00 in Lucknow), Monday to Saturday. Your 6am and 9pm rushes fall outside it, so the plan includes a manual desk check-in before launch.

  • Testing from a distance

Test builds come through TestFlight and Play internal testing, Arabic screens get a bilingual QA pass, and each submission tells Apple which purchases use your gateway, under which rule.

  • Who owns what

Store, gateway, domain and hosting accounts are in your name, and member payments land in your merchant account, never ours. The app's source code and IP pass to your gym with the last payment. Paying us is a bank transfer in AED against an AED invoice, in three parts: 40% to begin, another 40% when the build hits a checkpoint we fix together up front, and the last 20% when the app goes live.

  • An Indian WhatsApp number

My WhatsApp is +91 92771 84741. Messages work normally from the UAE; for calls we send a video-call link.

  • After launch

If a booking screen or check-in pass breaks because of our code, the repair costs your gym nothing for the first half-year after launch. New iOS and Android releases, store-policy changes and small edits are app maintenance, billed at AED 1,500–4,500 a month before VAT.

How it works

From your sales list to a live app, in six steps

Start on WhatsApp
  1. Sales inventory

You list everything you sell; we mark each item physical, one-to-one live or digital, which fixes payment scope before design.

  2. Accounts in week one

D-U-N-S, Apple and Play organisation accounts and the merchant application, all in your name, while design runs.

  3. Clickable design in English and Arabic

You tap through booking, check-in and checkout in both languages, then approve.

  4. Build in short cycles

Test builds are shared through TestFlight and Play internal testing.

  5. Submission with review notes

The notes say which purchases use external payment under 3.1.3(e) or 3.1.3(d).

  6. Handover

Every login handed over, against a checklist agreed in the scope; a test gateway payment and a sandbox in-app purchase are on it.

Ask Ashish directly

Ask on WhatsApp

Why does one fitness app cost AED 17,000 and another AED 108,000?

What it sells and streams. A member app sells memberships and class packs through your own gateway, so there is no in-app purchase server work and no video to host; it sits at the low end of our range (excluding VAT, iOS and Android from one codebase, 4–12 weeks). A subscription app needs a filmed library, offline download, receipt validation for Apple and Google purchases and often a watch app, which pushes it towards the top. UAE gateway and in-app purchase setup are quoted on top.

Do Apple and Google take commission on gym memberships sold in an app?

No. Apple's guideline 3.1.3(e) covers services used outside the app, which is where memberships, class visits and in-person training fall, and Google's Payments policy names gym memberships as exempt. Those sales go through your own gateway, paying normal gateway fees only. On-demand workouts and premium plans are digital and pay the store 15% or 30%.

Can personal trainers in Dubai take payment through the app, or sell online classes via Stripe or Telr?

In-person sessions, yes, through your own gateway. Private one-to-one video coaching can too on iOS, because Apple's guideline 3.1.3(d) names fitness training as a person-to-person service that may skip in-app purchase. Google does not name that case, so Android is confirmed per project. Group live classes and on-demand programmes must use in-app purchase.

What features should a gym or fitness app have?

A member app needs class booking with a waitlist, membership checkout and renewals, a check-in pass, push reminders and a branch picker. A coach app needs a programme builder, chat, one-to-one video and private progress photos. A subscription app needs a video library, offline download, streaks and an in-app purchase paywall. Apple also requires in-app account deletion.

How do I make my own gym app, and can a white-label app carry my gym's name?

Start the paperwork first: legal entity, D-U-N-S number, Apple and Google organisation accounts and a gateway merchant account. Then list what you sell so each item is routed to your gateway or in-app purchase. A white-label app can carry your name, and on the App Store it must ship from your account, because guideline 4.2.6 rejects template apps the content owner did not submit.

Can a gym app work as an Apple Wallet or Google Wallet pass?

Yes, as a scope item. The simplest option is a QR code inside the app that your desk or door reader scans. A step up is an Apple Wallet pass, or a Google Wallet pass for Android members, opened from the lock screen. Which one fits depends on what your door reader scans, so send its make and model first.

Can a fitness app connect to Apple Watch and Android Health Connect?

HealthKit on iPhone, Health Connect on Android. Reading finished workouts is modest scope; a watchOS app for live data on the wrist is a separate native build. Apple's guideline 5.1.3 bars using HealthKit data for advertising or storing it in iCloud, and Google Play asks for the Health apps declaration and only the data types you need.

How long does it take to build a gym app, and can it be live before Dubai Fitness Challenge?

4–12 weeks of build, with the D-U-N-S and store accounts running alongside design, then App Review. So not for 2026: DFC runs from 31 October to 29 November 2026. Use a web sign-up page and WhatsApp this year. Starting in October, a lean member app can target January 2027 and a coach app January to Ramadan 2027.
