Overview
The audit is a written list of what is blocking sales, and the fixes after it cost CAD 30–60 an hour, line by line, so you can stop once the blockers are gone. A new WooCommerce or Shopify store is one fixed price in a CAD 1,500–12,000 band once the scope is agreed. The audit and the fixes are done remotely from Lucknow, India, by Codingclave's founder-led team; Ashish Sharma writes the audit and answers your WhatsApp messages about it. There is no Brampton office.

Quick answer
Who can fix or build a WooCommerce store for a Brampton business, and what does it cost in CAD?
Codingclave, founder-led and working remotely from Lucknow, India, takes over live Brampton stores with a written audit, then fixes them at CAD 30–60 an hour. A new WooCommerce or Shopify store gets one fixed price inside a CAD 1,500–12,000 band. Between the platforms, card fees sit close together: Shopify Payments charges 2.8% + 30¢ on Basic, while Stripe and WooPayments charge 2.9% + CA$0.30. What usually settles it is Shopify's 2% surcharge on outside gateways, and who keeps WordPress updated (fee comparison).
- The audit puts order-blocking faults at the top
- Hourly for fixes; one fixed price for a new store
- Staging first, live test order last
- A platform move has to carry consent dates too

Where is your store today?
Live, but orders, rates or payments are failing
Customers are charged but orders sit at pending, a checkout field has gone, or shipping shows the wrong flat rate. That is repair work, not a rebuild: see the usual causes.
Working, but untouched for years
Nothing is broken, but the store runs an old PHP version and plugins nobody updates any more. The next host upgrade is the risk.
A WordPress site with no shop yet
Adding WooCommerce to the site you have usually costs less than starting again. The WordPress cost guide covers the site itself.
Weighing a move to Shopify

Why a WooCommerce store stops taking orders without anyone noticing
None of these show on the home page, so a fault can run for weeks before a customer mentions it.
Order storage changed under an old plugin
Since WooCommerce 8.2 (October 2023), High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) has been on by default for new installations (WooCommerce). HPOS keeps orders in their own database tables instead of WordPress's posts table, so a plugin written for the old layout shows blank orders or misses them in exports. WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Features names the incompatible plugins.
A checkout field vanished on the block checkout
The Cart and Checkout blocks are the default for stores started after WooCommerce 8.3 (November 2023); upgraded stores aren't switched automatically (WooCommerce). Fields added through the old checkout hooks, such as delivery instructions, and some older gateways often don't appear on the block checkout until their plugin supports it.
Updates that ran on the live store
Two plugins that work fine apart can clash on the same checkout hook. If the update ran live, a customer is the one who tells you.
The host upgraded PHP and the shop went blank
Hosts retire old PHP versions on their own timetable, and an abandoned plugin or theme can fail on the new one. The error log on a staging copy will name the file.
Charged in Stripe, stuck at “pending payment”
A webhook is the message Stripe sends your store when a payment succeeds. After a domain change or a restored backup it can still point at the old address or carry an old signing secret. Stripe's dashboard lists the failed deliveries and can re-send them once the endpoint is right.
Canada Post rates disappear
Live rates need the API keys and customer number from your Canada Post business account, plus a weight and dimensions on every product. If any of that is missing, the request fails. With a fallback flat rate set, the store quietly charges it and you lose margin on heavy parcels; without one, checkout shows no shipping option and the order can't be placed.
Tax set for one province only
Ontario HST is one rate line. A store shipping across the country needs every province right; the Canada overview sets out which rate applies where.

The audit comes before any fix
Quoting the audit costs you nothing and happens before anyone logs in. The audit itself is billed at the hourly rate once you approve its estimate, and you keep the document: another developer could check it line by line.
| Part | What it tells you | Example line |
|---|---|---|
| Order blockers | Faults that stop or corrupt orders, listed first | Stripe webhook still points at the old domain |
| Revenue leaks | Faults that let orders through but cost money | Flat rate charged on parcels that should be priced by weight |
| Upgrade risks | What breaks at the next host or plugin update | Unmaintained plugin that fails on the host's next PHP version |
| Hours and order | An hour estimate per line, and what to do first | 2–3 hours; before the next update |
| Fix or rebuild | Whether repairs still cost less than a new store | Both prices side by side when it's close |
I write the audit and price each line before you approve any of it, so you can pay for the order blockers and stop there. WooCommerce isn't new ground for us: our work includes the online pharmacy store for Anand Medico Chemist in India, and ESMED's (European Society of Medicine) membership and publishing platform on WordPress and PHP.
New builds are paid 40/40/20 and come with six months of free bug fixes; the full terms are on the Canada overview.

A host move that broke checkout and shipping in one weekend
An example of the work we can do, not a past client.
A kitchenware store ships from a rented Brampton unit with Canada Post. Over a weekend, a previous freelancer moves it to a new host by setting up a fresh WooCommerce install and importing products, pages and orders. On Monday the delivery-instructions box for buzzer codes has gone, and every order pays the CAD 15 fallback flat rate, cast-iron pans included.
What the audit finds
Two causes. The fresh install put the Checkout block on the checkout page, and the delivery-instructions plugin only works with the shortcode checkout. Separately, the Canada Post settings came across without API keys, and over a hundred imported products have no dimensions.
What changes, on staging
A block-ready field plugin replaces the old one (switching back to the shortcode checkout was the priced alternative). Fresh Canada Post credentials go in from the owner's account; dimensions come from the supplier's spec sheet.
How it is tested
Test-mode orders to Halifax and Whitehorse addresses, each rate checked against Canada Post's own calculator.
Then the live test order and change notes, as in the steps further down. Something similar after a host move or an update? Send the URL and what changed.

The two fees that decide WooCommerce or Shopify
At a few hundred orders a month, card fees and one Shopify surcharge matter more than the plan price.
| Set-up | Plan a month (CAD, yearly / monthly billing) | Domestic online card | International card | Dispute fee | Extra platform cut |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify Basic + Shopify Payments | 37 / 49 | 2.8% + 30¢ | 3.5% + 30¢ all-in; no conversion fee listed | Not on Shopify's pricing page | None |
| Shopify Grow + Shopify Payments | 99 / 132 | 2.6% + 30¢ | 3.4% + 30¢ all-in; no conversion fee listed | Not on Shopify's pricing page | None |
| Shopify Basic + another gateway | 37 / 49 | The gateway's rate | The gateway's rate | The gateway's | 2% of each sale (Grow 1%, Advanced 0.6%) |
| WooCommerce + Stripe | No platform fee; hosting and paid extensions extra | 2.9% + CA$0.30 | +0.8%, and +2% if currency is converted | CA$15, plus CA$15 if you counter (refunded if you win) | None |
| WooCommerce + WooPayments | As for Stripe | 2.90% + $0.30 | +1%, and +2% if currency is converted | $20, refunded if you win | None |
A worked example: 400 orders a month at CAD 75, so CAD 30,000 in domestic card sales.
- Shopify Basic with Shopify Payments: CAD 840 (2.8%) plus CAD 120 (400 × 30¢) is CAD 960 in card fees, plus CAD 37 for the plan.
- WooCommerce with Stripe or WooPayments: CAD 870 plus CAD 120 is CAD 990, plus hosting and paid extensions.
- Shopify Grow: card fees drop to CAD 900, but the plan is CAD 99. On yearly billing, Grow only pays for itself above about CAD 31,000 a month in domestic online card sales.
With card fees this close, two other things decide it. On Basic, Shopify takes 2% of every sale through a gateway other than Shopify Payments: another CAD 600 a month here. And someone has to keep WordPress and its plugins updated and tested, while Shopify updates its own platform.
US customers shift the sums: Shopify Basic charges 3.5% + 30¢ all-in on international cards, while Stripe's 2.9% plus 0.8% comes to 3.7% + CA$0.30, plus 2% if the currency is converted.
The Shopify cost guide totals a full first year. For your own numbers, ask for a quote with last month's order count.

Moving to Shopify without losing customers, orders or proof of consent
A WooCommerce-to-Shopify move is mostly a data job. Products are the easy part.
Customer accounts
Passwords can't move: WordPress stores only a one-way hash. Shopify's current customer accounts don't need one, since customers type their email and get a one-time 6-digit code. Legacy accounts work differently, so we confirm which kind you'll run and write a launch email that doesn't read like phishing.
Order history
Past orders come across as historical records, without sending emails or touching stock, and we check a sample against the old store.
CASL consent records
Under Canada's anti-spam law, a purchase gives implied consent to email that customer for two years, and an inquiry for six months (CRTC). The sender has to prove consent: the address, the date and how it was given. In Decision 2019-111, against nCrowd's former CEO, the CRTC held that the date of consent is essential to proving it, and valid dates could not be shown.
So before the old store goes offline, export each subscriber's consent date, sign-up form and wording. Map them to the new platform's consent fields where they exist, and keep the export as your record where the import has no place for the date.
Redirects
Shopify puts /products/ and /collections/ into every product and category address, so most old URLs need a 301 redirect. The mapping method is on the e-commerce development page.
A move is priced per job: product count, customer count and the email set-up change the work most. Send your product and customer counts.

What Brampton changes about the budget and the build
The City counts 124,833 businesses in Brampton (economic snapshot, February 2026). Outside help with paying for an online store is thinner than that number suggests.
Brampton small business grants: don’t wait for Starter Company Plus
The Brampton Entrepreneur Centre (BEC), the city's small business enterprise centre, runs Starter Company Plus: up to $5,000, with 2026/27 applications closed on 13 September. It is for people expanding or buying a Brampton or Caledon business they will run at least 35 hours a week, with a 25% contribution (up to $1,250), and finishing the training doesn't guarantee the grant. Online-only eligibility isn't stated, so ask BEC rather than hold a fix for next year.
Digital Main Street help is on hold
BEC's Digital Main Street service squad contract ended on 30 June 2025, and the City's page says direct support stays on hold until the province decides. Home-based businesses were never eligible.
Shipping from a Brampton unit or a 3PL
If your stock sits in a rented unit or with a third-party logistics (3PL) warehouse, we can connect the store to the 3PL's API or its CSV or SFTP order feed, and to your label tool. Invest Brampton puts the CN Brampton Intermodal Terminal at 195 acres, serving over 2,000 trucks a day. Running your own trucks too? See the dispatch software guide.
A store in a second language
If your customers would rather shop in Punjabi, Gujarati, Hindi or French, we can add a second storefront language: WPML, Polylang or TranslatePress on WooCommerce, or Shopify's Translate & Adapt, plus a font that renders Gurmukhi or Devanagari and hreflang tags. We deliver French copy with a fluent French reviewer; for Punjabi, Gujarati or Hindi, you supply or approve every word.
The price level around you
Job Bank's Toronto Region median wage for an employed e-commerce web site developer is CAD 39.42 an hour, before payroll costs. Our rate for fixes and take-overs is CAD 30–60 an hour.

Who picks up when a Brampton checkout stops
Lucknow is 9.5 hours ahead of Brampton in summer and 10.5 hours once Ontario's clocks go back on 1 November, so work done in Lucknow's afternoon is on staging before you open. Delivery dates are still set per job.
Who answers
Your WhatsApp messages come to me, Ashish. The person who wrote your audit is the person who answers for it, with no account manager in between.
When checkout stops
If we already look after your store, a checkout that has stopped taking orders is an emergency on a live system: message at any hour and it gets the 24/7 emergency response instead of waiting for the morning call. WhatsApp an urgent fault.
