Overview

A multi-tenant v1, where each customer company gets its own workspace, roles, plan and audit log, costs $10,000–$15,000. Both are fixed USD prices from Codingclave's founder-led team in Lucknow, India. Below: what each building block adds in weeks, what the platform costs to run each month, and where an India-built SaaS sits against published US and offshore rates.

Quick answer

What does a SaaS platform cost to build and to run in 2026?

Our build prices are $5,000–$10,000 for a single-workspace first version and $10,000–$15,000 for a multi-tenant v1, delivered in 8–16 weeks. Published agency guides start higher: Rorix Technologies puts a SaaS MVP at $40,000 to $120,000 and NUS Technology a simple MVP at $15,000–$40,000 (both read on October 25, 2026). Running it starts near $45 a month on paid hosting and database plans, plus Stripe's share of every subscription charge.

  • SaaS first version: $5,000–$10,000, 8–12 weeks
  • Multi-tenant SaaS v1: $10,000–$15,000, 12–16 weeks
  • Stripe takes 2.9% + 30¢ per US card charge, plus 0.7% for Billing
  • Enterprise SSO and data residency are quoted separately
  • Code, IP and accounts are yours on final payment

Two first versions, and how to choose between them

Almost every SaaS starts in one of two shapes. The difference is not size but who the customer is: a person who signs up alone, or a company that brings its team.

SaaS first versions in US dollars, October 2026
What you getSaaS first versionMulti-tenant SaaS v1
Price$5,000–$10,000$10,000–$15,000
Build weeks8–1212–16

Admin consoleCustomer list, plan status, refunds through StripeThe same, plus usage per workspace and a support view of any workspace

If your buyer is a company and more than one of its people will log in, choose the multi-tenant version now. Adding workspaces to a single-user data model later touches nearly every table and query, which turns the retrofit into a project of its own.

What each SaaS building block adds, in weeks

These are our typical added times for each block, already inside the tier weeks above. They are planning estimates, not separate prices, and some blocks are cheaper to buy than to build.

Typical build time per SaaS block, October 2026 estimates
BlockTypical timeBuild or buy
Sign-up, sign-in, password reset, Google sign-inAbout 1 weekSupabase Auth or Clerk, free up to 50,000 monthly retained users per app on its Hobby plan, saves most of it
Roles and permissions1–2 weeksOwner, admin and member are standard; roles that each customer defines take longer
Workspaces (multi-tenancy)2–3 weeksBuilt, never bought: a tenant id on every row, enforced by the database
Subscriptions on Stripe Billing1–2 weeksStripe hosts checkout and the customer portal; webhooks keep access in step with payment status
Admin console1–2 weeksCustomer search, plan changes, refunds and a support view
Audit logAbout 1 weekAn append-only record of who did what, shown per workspace
Email and in-app notificationsUnder 1 weekSent through Resend or a similar service
Public API and webhooks2–3 weeksAPI keys per workspace, rate limits and documentation
Enterprise single sign-on (SAML)1–2 weeks with a providerClerk's pricing page lists one SSO connection per app and $75 a month for each extra one

Usage-based pricing (per message, per seat-hour or per API call) adds metering on top: a usage table, a nightly roll-up and meter events sent to Stripe. PayPerWA, one of our own products, bills this way from a prepaid wallet.

Three ways to keep customers’ data apart

How tenants are separated is the decision that is hardest to change later, so it belongs in the first conversation, before any screen is drawn.

  • Shared tables with a tenant id

Every row carries the workspace it belongs to, and Postgres row-level security filters out every row that belongs to another workspace. It is the cheapest model to build and to run, and it suits nearly every first version. The risk is a single missing filter, which is why the rule lives in the database and has its own automated tests.

  • A schema per tenant

Each customer gets its own set of tables inside one database. Isolation is easier to show an auditor, but every migration runs once per tenant, so releases slow down as the customer list grows. It fits when a contract asks for logical separation by name.

  • A database per tenant

Each customer gets a database of its own, sometimes in its own region. It answers data-residency and large-enterprise demands, and it multiplies backups, monitoring and hosting by the number of tenants. Build it when a signed customer needs it, not before.

What a SaaS costs to run each month

Prices below were read on each vendor's page on October 25, 2026, for a common stack: a Next.js app on Vercel, Postgres and sign-in on Supabase, email through Resend and error tracking on Sentry. The right-hand column assumes 120 customers paying $99 a month with US cards.

Monthly running cost of a SaaS at launch and at 120 paying customers (USD)
Line itemAt launch120 customers on a $99 plan
Hosting: Vercel Pro$20$20, plus any usage beyond the included $20 credit
Database and sign-in: Supabase Pro$25$25, plus compute if you outgrow the included Micro instance
Email: Resend$0 (3,000 emails a month)$20 on Pro (50,000 emails)
Error tracking: Sentry$0 on the one-user Developer plan$29 on Team, billed monthly
Card fees: Stripe, 2.9% + 30¢ per chargeA few dollars$380.52 on $11,880 of charges
Stripe Billing, 0.7% of Billing volumeCents$83.16
Total before AI usageAbout $45About $558, or 4.7% of revenue

Once customers pay, Stripe is the largest line: card fees plus Billing come to about 3.9% of revenue at 120 customers in this example, and international cards add another 1.5%. AI features bring a line of their own: 120 customers each running 300 requests a month, at 1,500 tokens in and 400 out on a model listed at $2 and $10 per million tokens (OpenAI gpt-6.1-sol), comes to $108 of input plus $144 of output, or $252 a month.

What team location does to a SaaS quote

Every guide we read lists team location among the biggest drivers of a SaaS budget. Each rate below is the publisher's own figure, read on October 25, 2026.

  • Agency rates by region

Rorix Technologies lists $55 to $250+ an hour for North America, $30 to $130 for Eastern Europe and for Latin America, and $20 to $85 for India and South Asia. NUS Technology puts US and EU agencies at $80–$180 an hour and Vietnam and Southeast Asia at $25–$50.

  • Freelance marketplace rates

On Upwork, Indian app developers cost $18–$39 an hour. A marketplace rate buys one person's time; scoping, design review, testing and a second developer when the work needs one are yours to arrange.

  • The same hours, priced in two places

A scope that takes 1,000 hours comes to $180,000 at the top of the US and EU agency range NUS Technology publishes, and $25,000 at the bottom of its Southeast Asia range. That arithmetic, more than any feature list, is why quotes for one product can differ seven-fold.

  • Where we sit

We don't sell hours. The two tiers above are fixed prices for a written scope, so a slow week is our problem and not a line on your invoice.

06of 10

Costs a SaaS build quote usually leaves out

These sit outside any developer's price, ours included. Knowing them early stops a launch from stalling on paperwork.

  • Terms of service and a privacy policy

Written or reviewed by a lawyer who knows your market. Templates are a start, but the documents bind you to how the product handles data, so they should match what was built.

  • Sales tax on subscriptions

US states treat SaaS differently, and some tax it. Registering and collecting is your company's job; Stripe sells tax automation that plugs into the billing we set up, and your accountant decides whether you need it at launch.

  • Security reviews from enterprise buyers

Larger customers may send a security questionnaire or ask for a SOC 2 report. That audit is between your company and an auditor; Rorix Technologies puts readiness and audit at $10,000 to $150,000. Plan for it only when a deal depends on it.

  • Moving existing data

Customers arriving from spreadsheets or another tool expect their records to come with them. Imports are quoted per source once a sample file has been checked.

A US tax point to raise with your accountant

Software development counts as research spending under Sections 174 and 174A of the tax code, according to Baker Tilly's summary of the 2025 tax law (July 18, 2025). Domestic research costs can be deducted right away again, from 2025, but foreign research must still be capitalized and amortized over 15 years. Development done by a team in India may fall on the foreign side for your company, which changes the after-tax comparison with a US team. We are not tax advisers: ask your accountant how this applies to you, ideally before you sign with anyone.

Still testing demand? Start smaller

The tiers on this page assume people will pay and you know what for. If that is still the open question, a lean MVP at $2,500–$5,000 tests one workflow in 6–8 weeks, and MVP development cost covers when a builder such as Lovable or Bubble is enough with no developer at all. A SaaS first version can later reuse that code, provided it was written to be kept.

SaaS products we built

These are our own products, not client projects, and we don't name US clients on this page. Between them they cover most of what a SaaS first version needs.

  • PayPerWA: usage billing from a prepaid wallet

PayPerWA, the WhatsApp Business API platform we operate, charges per message from a prepaid wallet, refunds failed sends automatically, and offers a REST API with webhooks and a shared team inbox.

  • Multi-tenant hotel software

Our multi-tenant hotel management software runs many hotels from one super-admin console. Each hotel has isolated data, its own users, plan, billing and branded login, with role-based access and audit logs.

  • Society management software

Built for housing societies, our society management software runs recurring maintenance bills with reminders and online payment, complaint tracking, visitor logs and a resident mobile app.

Owning the platform: code, accounts and handover

  • Accounts in your name from day one

Stripe, hosting, the database, the domain and email sending are opened by your company and shared with us, so nothing needs transferring at the end and no account of yours depends on ours.

  • Code and IP

All source code and IP pass to you on final payment. No license fee or platform charge from us follows it.

  • A handover another team can pick up

You get the repository, a list of environment variables, deployment notes, the database schema and every admin login, so any developer can carry on without needing us.

  • Care after launch, if you want it

Store & App Care, $300 a month, is optional for web apps once they are live, billed month to month. Without it, the code and the handover notes are enough for your own developer.

Ask on WhatsApp (India)

How much does it cost to build a SaaS platform?

Published 2026 guides put a SaaS MVP anywhere from $15,000 to $120,000 (NUS Technology, Rorix Technologies), and team location explains much of that spread. With us, a first version with sign-up, one core workflow, Stripe subscriptions and an admin console is $5,000–$10,000, and a multi-tenant v1 with workspaces, roles, billing per workspace and an audit log is $10,000–$15,000, both fixed once the scope is agreed. Running costs are separate.

Can I build a SaaS for free?

You can build and test one for close to nothing, but you can't run a business on free plans for long. Vercel's free Hobby plan is for personal, non-commercial use, free Supabase projects pause after a week without activity, and Resend's free tier stops at 3,000 emails a month. Stripe charges no monthly fee, only a share of each payment. Budget about $45 a month for paid hosting and database plans once real customers sign up.

How long does it take to build a SaaS product?

With us, 8–12 weeks for a first version and 12–16 weeks for a multi-tenant v1, counted from the signed scope. Published guides often quote longer: Classic Informatics puts an MVP at 3–5 months. What stretches any timeline is the same everywhere: decisions that wait a week, outside APIs without test accounts, and scope that grows after sign-off.

What does a SaaS cost to run each month?

At launch, about $45 a month on paid plans: Vercel Pro at $20 and Supabase Pro at $25, with free tiers for email and error tracking. With 120 customers on a $99 plan, that stack plus paid email and monitoring comes to about $94, and Stripe adds $463.68 in card and Billing fees, about $558 in all (prices read on October 25, 2026). AI features are extra and grow with usage.

Should we use Stripe for SaaS subscriptions?

For most US SaaS products, yes. Stripe Billing handles plans, trials, upgrades and failed-payment retries, and its hosted checkout and customer portal keep card data off your servers. On October 25, 2026 it cost 0.7% of Billing volume on pay-as-you-go, on top of 2.9% + 30¢ per domestic card charge. If sales tax across states worries you, Stripe also sells tax automation and a merchant-of-record service; weigh those with your accountant before launch.

Can you build a multi-tenant SaaS?

Yes. The multi-tenant v1 at $10,000–$15,000 gives each customer company a workspace with its own users, roles, plan and audit log, with isolation enforced in the database through row-level security rather than only in application code. Our own multi-tenant hotel management software runs many hotels from one super-admin console with isolated data per hotel, so it is a pattern we have shipped in a product of our own.

Does US tax law treat development done in India differently?

It can. Software development counts as research spending under Sections 174 and 174A; from 2025, domestic research can be deducted immediately again, while foreign research is still amortized over 15 years, according to Baker Tilly. If work done in India counts as foreign research for your company, the deduction arrives more slowly than for a US team. Ask your accountant before comparing quotes; we are not tax advisers.

How we put this page together

Every price and rate on this page was read on its publisher's own page on October 25, 2026: Rorix Technologies, NUS Technology, Classic Informatics, Upwork, Stripe, Vercel, Supabase, Resend, Sentry, Clerk, OpenAI and Baker Tilly. The running-cost and AI totals are our arithmetic from those prices, and the weeks per building block are our estimates. Drafted with AI help and reviewed by Ashish Sharma before publication. Both SaaS tiers were set by us in October 2026 and sit within our published custom software band of $2,500–$15,000.
