Quick answer
What does an app built in India cost a US business?
Our prices are $600–$1,500 for a simple app on both stores and $1,500–$8,000 for one with user sign-in, a backend and an admin panel, built in 3–12 weeks. For comparison, Chop Dawg's 2026 guide prices a simple single-platform app at $5K–$25K and lists US rates of $100–$180 an hour, and Upwork shows Indian app developers at $18–$39 an hour (both read on October 25, 2026). Apple's developer account costs $99 a year and Google's $25 once.
- Simple app: $600–$1,500, 3–6 weeks
- App with login, backend and admin: $1,500–$8,000, 4–12 weeks
- Marketplaces and real-time apps quoted after a written scope
- Apple and Google accounts opened in your company's name
- Free bug fixes for 6 months after launch

Two app prices, and the line between them
Most app ideas from small US businesses fall on one side of a single line: whether the app needs to know who its user is.
Simple app: $600–$1,500, 3–6 weeks
A catalog, menu, event schedule, notices or an inquiry form, built once for iOS and Android. Content is edited in a simple admin or a spreadsheet, nobody creates an account, and inquiries arrive by email. It suits restaurants, venues, local services and membership groups that want a place on customers' home screens.
App with login, backend and admin: $1,500–$8,000, 4–12 weeks
Users sign in, their data lives on a server, and your staff run the business side from a web admin panel: bookings, orders, loyalty points, member content or payments. Where it lands in the band depends on the roles, the integrations and how much of the design is custom.
What pushes a simple app over the line
Accounts, anything saved per user, payments inside the app, push messages aimed at one person, or booking against live availability. Any one of these moves the app to the second price.

Indian and US app prices side by side
A comparison is only fair when it says what is being compared. These are published figures, each read on October 25, 2026, next to our own two prices.
| Who | Figure | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| US software developer, employed | $135,980 median annual wage, May 2025 | Pay before benefits, payroll tax and equipment, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics |
| Chop Dawg's 2026 guide, US rates | $100–$180 an hour; a simple single-platform app $5K–$25K, a medium app $25K–$100K | Hourly rates and project bands in a cost guide published April 3, 2026 |
| Same guide, India rates | $20–$50 an hour | The guide's own range for teams in India |
| Upwork, Indian app developers | $18–$39 an hour | Typical hourly range for freelancers on the platform |
| An Indian agency's price list | From ₹75,000 for an MVP package | Rupee-only pricing written for Indian buyers, with no USD list |
| Codingclave, fixed price | $600–$1,500 for a simple app; $1,500–$8,000 with login, backend and admin | One USD price once the scope is agreed, iOS and Android included |
We don't put a percentage on the difference, because the scopes behind these figures differ. What the table does show is why a US quote and an Indian quote for the same app can sit several times apart: the hourly rate, far more than the number of screens.

What moves an app’s price inside the band
Accounts and stored data
Sign-in, profiles and anything saved per user need a backend and an admin panel. That is the step from the simple price to the second one.
Payments and bookings
Card payments through Stripe, deposits, refunds and booking against live availability each add screens, webhooks and testing.
Integrations
Maps, calendars, a CRM, a POS or an existing database. Well-documented APIs are quick; older systems with no test accounts are not.
Push messages and offline use
Notifications aimed at one user need device tokens and a backend job. Working offline means local storage and rules for syncing later.
Real-time features
Chat, live tracking and on-demand dispatch need sockets, background location and far more testing. Those apps are priced after a written scope.
Design depth
A clean design built on a component library costs less than fully custom screens and motion. Either way, screens are agreed in Figma before code.
One codebase or two
Flutter or React Native ships iOS and Android from one codebase. Two native apps in Swift and Kotlin can come close to doubling the build, so they make sense only when a device feature demands them.

Where common app types land
A first look at which price an idea usually falls under. The written scope decides; this table only shows where to start.
| App type | Usually | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Menu, catalog, event or venue app | Simple app, $600–$1,500 | Content only, no accounts, inquiries by email |
| Booking app for a salon, studio or repair service | App with login, $1,500–$8,000 | Accounts, live availability, reminders and a staff admin |
| Loyalty or membership app | App with login, $1,500–$8,000 | Points or member content saved per user |
| Store app on top of Shopify or WooCommerce | App with login, $1,500–$8,000 | Product sync and checkout through the store's own payments |
| Fitness or coaching app with subscriptions | App with login, upper half of the band; with a separate web dashboard for coaches it is the MVP-with-apps tier, $10,000–$15,000 (see MVP cost) | Subscriptions, progress data and the store billing rules below |
| Food delivery, ride or home-services marketplace | Quoted after a written scope | Customer, provider and admin apps, plus live tracking |
| Telehealth, or anything holding patient records | Not taken on | We don't build apps that store or process protected health information |

App Store and Google Play fees for US apps in 2026
The old answer, 15% or 30% of every sale, is incomplete for apps sold to US users: physical goods and services never paid it, links to a web checkout are now allowed, and Google's US fees changed in 2026. Here is what each store's own pages said on October 25, 2026, and what is still before the courts.
Developer accounts
Apple charges $99 per membership year and Google Play $25 once. To publish under a company name, both stores ask the organization for a D-U-N-S number (Apple, Google); Google notes it is free from Dun & Bradstreet and can take up to 30 days, so apply before the build starts.
Physical goods and services: no store commission
If the app sells meals, bookings, rides, repairs or products used outside the app, Apple's guideline 3.1.3(e) requires a payment method other than in-app purchase, and Google's payments policy rules out Play billing for physical goods and services. You pay your card processor, and neither store takes a share.
Apple: digital purchases
Digital content and features sold inside an iPhone app use in-app purchase, and the App Store Small Business Program cuts Apple's commission to 15% for developers with up to $1 million in proceeds the year before. On the US storefront, Apple's guidelines now allow buttons and external links to a web checkout. Whether Apple may charge a commission on those linked-out purchases went back to the district court after the Ninth Circuit's December 2025 ruling (Fenwick, December 22, 2025), so check the current terms before you set prices.
Google: digital purchases
For US users since June 30, 2026, Google's service fee page lists 10% plus a 5% billing fee on the first $1 million of a developer's yearly earnings when purchases go through Google Play Billing; above that it depends on the purchase type and the install date, up to 25% plus the billing fee. Since October 29, 2025, Google no longer requires Play Billing in US apps and allows links out (Google's US changes page), with fees on those programs reported from October 1, 2026.
For most small-business apps the working rule is short: sell goods and services through your own card processor, sell digital subscriptions on the web where you can, and budget a store commission only for digital purchases made inside the app.

How long an app takes, stage by stage
Weeks run from the signed scope. The store paperwork runs alongside the build, and it is often the slowest part.
| Stage | Simple app | App with login and admin |
|---|---|---|
| Scope and screen designs in Figma | About 1 week | 1–2 weeks |
| Build, backend and admin panel | 1–4 weeks | 3–8 weeks |
| Testing on iPhone and Android devices | Under 1 week | 1–2 weeks |
| Store submission | Set by Apple's and Google's review queues | Set by Apple's and Google's review queues |
| Total, scope to launch | 3–6 weeks | 4–12 weeks |
Start three things on day one: the D-U-N-S number, the Apple and Google organization accounts, and a privacy policy page. Apple's guideline 5.1.1 requires every app to link its privacy policy both in App Store Connect and inside the app.

After launch: what keeps an app running
Hosting and backend
The backend runs in accounts you own and is billed by the provider. Small business apps usually start on a provider's first paid tier and move up only as usage grows.
Yearly OS updates
Apple and Google release new iOS and Android versions every year and raise the requirements for apps that want to keep shipping updates. Plan a short compatibility update each year; it is quoted once the new versions are out.
Bug fixes
Bugs in the delivered app are fixed free for 6 months after launch. New features after that are priced like any other change, in writing first.
Ongoing care
A monthly care arrangement for an app is quoted for that app, because the work depends on its backend and how often you want releases.
Your listing stays yours
Ratings, reviews and download history live in your Apple and Google accounts, so you can change developers without starting the listing again.

Paying in rupees instead?
If your company is in India or pays in rupees, the India app cost guide is the page for you: apps from ₹50,000, Android-first advice for the Indian market and Indian payment gateways. This page is for buyers who pay in US dollars and publish to US users. A USD price is fixed in dollars, so exchange-rate moves during the build don't change it.

How we put this page together
The store fees, rules and court status were read on Apple's and Google's own pages and in Fenwick's case summary on October 25, 2026; the US wage figure comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the rates from Chop Dawg's guide and Upwork, read the same day. Drafted with AI help; Ashish Sharma reviews it before it goes live. The two app prices are ours: $1,500–$8,000 is our existing USD list price for apps, and the $600–$1,500 price for simple apps was set in October 2026 from our ₹50,000 floor for simple apps.
